The Groll name is a Very old German Name
going back to 1600's that I know, and it
does mean ""Farm". May be someone with
time can put together a Groll Page ,where we
can put in a timeline of us. I would more
than help, as Kathy and us have been working
for years on this. There are about 1200 Groll's in
Germany today.

I am looking for distant family members who
have a different name than my own. My families
original name was Groll. According to a family
book I have, the family goes back as far as
around 1740 to a shepard in the village of
Schwarzengraben, which I believe is in Germany.
Anyone who thinks this is familiar please contact
me, I would love to hear from you.

My husband's grandmother was Martha Pauline (Groll) who was born in Baltimore, Md., in Dec.1895. She had 7 brothers and sisters who were all born in Germany . Their parents and the seven siblings came across in the 1890's we are fairly certain, within a year or two of her being born. She married
Patrick John Manley in 1915 in Baltimore. She is buried there and she died in 1973. We know no names of other of her family members other than a sister called Lily. Any
information would be very much appreciated.
Sincerely, Julia Manley

Grolls in Baltimore, Maryland

Trying to find info of parents and family of Martha P. Groll who married John Patrick Manley around 1915 or 16 in Baltimore.
She was born 21Nov1895 in Baltimore, the last of 7 children of
which only she was born in the USA. We know there was a sister named Lily. We know these Grolls came from Germany in the 1890's. We know not her parents' names or the other five childrens' names either. I have the family line from Martha's marriage on down. My husband, Philip Manley, is her grandson. Martha died 18Oct73 and is buried in Baltimore,Md. We would really appreciate any information you could help with. The spelling on her death certificate is Groll, so we figured her family's would have been spelled the same. Philip's Mom remembers Lily was Groll, too.
Thankyou and may God bless you all. Julia M.

Johannes GROLL/1839/Württemberg

I am trying to find the place of origin for my Johannes W. GROLL, born 22 November 1839, Württemberg, Germany. He was in America before the Civil War as he registered to serve in a NY Regiment in 1864. (I cannot find him on the Württemberg Emigration Index.) He lived first in Brooklyn, NY and was a shoemaker. After the Civil War, he moved to Lebanon County, PA whereupon he changed his name to John LUTZ! but was going by both names at the same time! He married Rosa SCHIEBEL(Probably SCHUEBEL) in 1874 and had the following children: Augustus(this may be Rosa's child by another man); John, William, George, Michael, Kate R., Albert, Paul, Mary, Caroline and Walter. Rosa's parents were George and Mary SCHUEBEL, and she is probably from Neidenfels in Oberamt Crailsheim. John made declaration of intent in NYC in 1865 under the name of John W. GROLL and it was finalized in 1897, when he was going by the name LUTZ back in Pennsylvania.

Two Groll Sisters in Dayton OH ca.1880

Johanna Groll was my g-grandmother who emigrated from Germany in the 1870's, her older sister (by about 9 years) was Mary Groll.

Johanna Groll (age 21) married Joseph Zeitler (age 42) in 1880, had a baby boy. She remarried my g-grandfather George Geisel in Dec 1881 in Clark Co. OH about 5 mos. after Jos Zeiter's death. We do not know what became of the boy, and are keenly interested in tracking this line..

Johanna Groll was said to be a nurse in Germany, she was listed as a seamstress, and also was known to work at her brother in law's saloon in Dayton from 1878 to about 1881.

In 1883, her occupation was listed as "daily market" after she married my g-grandfather, George Geisel.

Johanna's sister Mary Groll (mis-spelled Gruel in Dayton birth records) was married to George Mulller/Miller and had a baby girl in 1880 named Elizabeth B. George Muller ran a Saloon in the Dayton's "Oregon District" (as it is called today), he was also a musician/band leader, and sold musical instruments.

It appears that George Zeitler (Johanna's bro-in-law) had married Anna Muller (Mary's sis-in-law), thus tying the surnames of Groll, Zeitler and Muller very tightly together in Dayton OH.

VERY INTERESTED IN MAKING CONNECTIONS.
I am looking for any Grolls in the Missouri area. My grand father was there in the late 1800's and was a deaf mute. He attended a school there for the deaf. He married a woman by the name of Lillian Carter in Chicago and they had 7 children. He died in the 50's. I wanted to know if there were any family left there. Let me know if you have any information on him. Thank you.
