I have added new historical documents for the English Gross family, including the tomb of Sir Oliver Gross, son of Lord John Gross of Sloley and Elizabeth Tudenham . This completes the available knowledge about the families from Norfolk and Cornwall which can be found in my Gross family tree. Please avoid trees containing references to Hugo le Gros as this is not our family line. He was not the father of Sir Oliver Gross/Le Gros. We are the Gross family of Sloley, Crostwick and Great Yarmouth in Norfolk,England, who became prominent ship owners in the Tudor period. The Gross family owned ships which brought settlers to Massachussetts and Virginia. They moved to Cornwall England to be closer to their ships in port. Branches moved to America from Norfolk and Cornwall. We are related to the Gross families who settled in Massachussetts and Virginia, which has been confirmed on DNA.
We are not related on DNA to the French or German families named le Gros and Gross.
It is important to get the family trees corrected. We have worked out our line from Wilhelmus Grossus who fought at the battle of Hastings down to the two families in Essex and Norfolk, based upon reliable historical documents, painstakingly researched on the ground in England.
If you download the wrong information you will miss out out on all the interesting story of the settlement of America.
