Thanks for all that info - it's taken a while to take it all in LOL !! - problem is I'm having difficulty slotting it into my tree.

The oldest Grosse I have is John b 1750 - he married Elizabeth.

Their son is Benjamin born in Newark upon Trent around 1784. Benjamin married Jane Peck in Coleby Lincs in 1809. I have 10 children including - Robert b1818 in Coleby Kestevan which is the Newark area (this is my line ) and Thomas b1821 in Auborn Lincs.

I then have a number of branches coming from these two sons...so my question is which line does Joseph b 1868 fit into ?? if any .....

In 2002 a man called Steve Grosse contacted me, his e-mail addres was trianda144@msn.com he had set up a Grosse tree on Geneology, but I have now lost contact with him.

Would be interested to know where abouts you live. My real interest was in Harriet Gale who had a sister Sara Jane. They were my grandmother's aunties and I have a wedding group photo of Sara Jane's wedding in July 1907, my grandmother on it. I would be happy to e-mail it to you if you would like it.

Mary is the daughter of Robert Grosse and Sarah Staples she is the eldest of their 12 children that i know of, Thomas Grosse born December 19th 1821 Auborn Lincolnshire was Roberts brother. Roberts parents were Benjamin Grosse born 1786 Newark Notts and Jane Grosse nee Peck born 1788 they were married in Coleby Lincolnshire on the 19th of December 1809 Benjamin died in Auborn in November 1864 Jane in the same place in 1841 Robert and Thomas are 2 of their 11 children, Benjamin buried 6th November 1864 in Auborn parish church, parents of Benjamin Grosse if required...hope this helps you

Hello

My great great grandmother was Mary GROSSE b1838 in Waddington Lincolnshire England. She had two boys, George b 1858 & Isaac b 1860 out of wedlock and then married William BRIGGS b 1826.

I believe Marys father was Robert Grosse and mother Sarah STAPLES - but have not been able to confirm this.

i realise your post was a long time ago but i wondered if you were able to fill in the gaps for me....was my Mary GROSSE related to your Thomas and Joseph ? and if so how ??

I am trying to find relatives of Frederick Julius Richard Grosse, born 1838, Altenburg,Germany. I appear to have ground to a halt. He was married to Francis Clark in 1861. I have no idea when he came over to England but am currently stuck with his birth place being in Germany.
They had 4 children all born in the UK, Henry (1862), Magdelena (1865), Louis Charles Richard (1866) and Emilie (1869)

This childs headstone was found several years ago laying along a highway in Kankakee County, Illinois. Would very much like to find where this childs headstone belongs and his family.

Carved on this childs headstone is "Bleibet In Mir Und Ich In Euch", which means "Stay With Me and I will Remain With You"

No I dont think there are any con. but similarities. My great grandfather was Charles Grosse b. 9,Apr 1847 in Hessen-Darmstadt Germany he had four children by two diff wives. Marie M. , Herman , Charles Conrad and Dorothea. K.
They immagrated from Prussia in 1854 he grew up in Boston and moved to NY . He was a plumber and owned two Hardware store's 1644 Second Ave in NY /1772 Dorchester Ave,Dorchester Ma. His first wife was Magdaleane Hagen and Second ; Elisabeth Pletsch-to whom I am related. He died in Boston MA in 1920 .

I believe your Joseph Grosse might be the brother of my gr. grandfather Antonio. As I understand it 3 trips were made from England to USA arriving in Boston in the 1890's or late 1880's. They originally were from Frosione, Italy. They were musicians and inn keepers. When they arrived here many scattered throughout the country.

My husband is a Grosse. A few years ago we stumbled across the gravesites for Joseph & Harriet (Gale) Grosse when visiting the gravesite of my sister in Glenn Abbey Cemetery in Bonita, CA (San Diego County). I discovered that Joseph's father, John Henry Grosse, was the brother of my husband's gggrandfather, Alfred A. Grosse. I have more information on Joseph & Harriet's children if you would like that let me know.
