My (John) Grosvenor (born 1/2/1640/41) came here in abt 1660-1672 from The Friars, St. Leonard Parish, Bridgenorth, Shropshire, England and the name was spelled Gravenor, most probably not related to the Grosvenors of England.

We'll keep searching. Went to England in 07---took photos of Grosvenor Square and many street signs with our name on them. Went to the village where my maternal 12-greats grandfather and mother emigrated from in 1643---it was in Kent in the south of England. Looks like the Grosvenors came from the north in Shropshire.

I found Benjamin in the 1880 census and his kids and or wife in the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 census and 1900-1930 all say England. I have 17 Benjamin Grosvenors in my file and he is the only one who was born around 1848-1852 and died abt 1882. I have been trying to find his parents for years but no luck either, would love to have the answer.

Since his children were born in l873 (Louis), 1875 (John) and later,Wauconda, IL, he should be in the census records of northern IL prior to 1880. He was married to Mary Jane Gray in Walworth County Wis around 1871. She was from Gray's Lake IL, also a northern IL town. Always wondered if there was a connection to the Michigan branch of the Grosvenors, since it is close, but found no connection.

Never heard that from Grandpa John or Aunt Daisy. He also had a dtr named Lottie, but she died in childhood. It is possible that he was born in England, of course, since I have no data disproving it. Never heard that he had an English accent, but then, the children were very young at his death. Thanks for the reply.

From the census of his 3 children, John F., Louis B. and Daisy and his wife they all state he was born in England. In the 1 census he is listed in it says unknown. Since I can not locate him before 1880, I am guessing he probably was born in England.

I can only trace back 3 gens from myself due to a mysterious great grandfather, Benjamin Smith Grosvenor, who died in Elgin IL in 1882. He married Mary Jane Gray in about 1872 but did not tell her where his parents were, but told her how to contact them in event of his death. She chose not to do so on his death--so we don't know where he came from. My grandfather, John Ferdinand Grosvenor, born in 1875 died 1958, was identical in looks to Gilbert H Grosvenor of the Natl Geo....uncanny resemtlance. So assume that they were cousins of some sort, but no proof.

The line I have so far is Daniel >Jonathan >Charles W. >Samuel Avery b. 1850.

I'm looking for others researching the Keys-Riley families of East Texas. These families lived in Polk, Walker, and San Jacinto County. My G. Grandmother was Willena Keys. She married Sidney Riley (son of Charles Riley and Sarah Grosvenor) in March 1902. Lena's parents were George W. Keys and Amanda Ricks. George's parents were John J. Keys and Margaret Thompson. Hope to hear from others who may have items such as photos, letters, etc to share.

I have a book "The Ancestry and Descendants of John Grosvenor" written by Richard Grosvenor by Heritage Books, Inc.
Malbone Grosvenor b1773 in Pomfret, CT. He was married twice, all of his children listed as born in Minot ME and of his second wife. Our connection goes back to Ebenezer Grosvenor b 1684, your line from Capt. John Grosvenor and by Ebenezer Grosvenor, Jr. It looks like you may be missing some generations.
Joan
