I knew a Russell Grothe who would be approximately 68 years old now. This person lived in Omaha, Nebraska; had a brother John, sister Jeanine, and I don't remember his Mother's name (Nellie?).....not sure. I think there was another child. This family lived on North 26th Street in Omaha Nebraska in the 50's, possibly the 40's. Just saw where a Jeanine Grothe was deceased; check internet:
(Copy and paste the info below into your browser -- then type in "Jeanine Grothe" into your "find" element)

http://216.239.39.100/search?q=cache:BRRma_-umEsC:www.rootsw...

Hope this helps.
Harry Grothe b about 1880 married Mae Knoell b March 27, 1881 in Mladkov, Bohemia, Austria. She died May 1930. They probably married in Custer Cty, NE as that is where he family was living at the time. They removed to the area around Crete, NE and farmed for their entire lives. They had three sons that I know of. Harry Jr. became a building contractor in Omaha: Grothe Construction phone: TE2030. They other two were still on the family farm in the 1970s. One may have been named John as I found a John Grothe who registered for WWI draft that lived in Dorchester Pleasant Hill in about 1918. Audrey

My Charles Henry was born on shipboard Maryland I think in the early 1830's. Doing family history is so interesting. You get a chance to talk with so many nice people. Thanks again and Merry Christmas

Phyllis

I am in Hamilton Ontario Canada. Today i was at a large thrift shop called value Village and i found at least 80 pages from an old family photo album full of photos from early 1900s' to the 1930's, as well as oldpostcards to a Lucien Grothe of Montreal, these postcards were from Israel and Egypt, Italy, France.
I am sure they were part of the old photo album, each page of the old photo album was going for 3.99, i calculated the cost to be about 159.00 all together. The photos are beautiful and a shame to be out of the family.
thanks, carol
Thank you for all your help.
I must have wrong information. My grandfather's name, that he went by, was Harry, born 9-3-1911. He lived in Skaneatles ,NY.
But he is buried in Marietta, NY. My grandmother's name is Margaret Rebecca Flanagan. She is still living. There were rumors that Harry was not my grandfather's real name, but that is the name he went by and had on his service records.
Do you know any of Charles Henry's brothers or sisters? I am related to HFW (Heinrich Friederich Wilhelm) Grothe born 27 Apr 1828 in Prussia. He married Wilhelmina Heitkamp and their first son was Charles Henry Grothe born 11 Jun 1855. They emigrated in the fall of 1856 settling in York PA and then had 8 more kids. My family tended to name all children after realtives, so I wondered if your Charles Henry might have had a brother Henry FW? Do you think this may be the same family???

There are other Grothe lines out there if you are still searching and don't think this is a match.

hello, I have reason to believe my family (on my mom' side) Americanized thier name. they say it is Grethey. I think it was Grothe or Grethe. I know it is German, from the family dishes we make at holidays, etc. They settled in the Bloomington, IL area. That is about 30 minutes from Champaign. I know there was Walter Rudolph, Anne, Margaret, Calvin, , Walter ,Albert. Calvin was my grandfather(passed). Walter Rudolph was his father. Could Otto have been his father?

I am sorry but I don't know who any of Charles Henry Grothe's family were. It is quite possible they were related. Charles Henry was supposedly born about 1833. It is said he was born shipboard Md. but we don't know for sure. Somehow, someone said they were in Pa or some relatives of theirs were. He moved to In. and married Julia Childers. From there, it was on to Ne. He died in Ok in 1911. Sure wish we could find out for sure as we don't know and can't find out anymore of his siblings or parents. It wouldn't surprize me ate all if they were related. I am going to talk to a member of the Grothe family who is big in ancestry and she what she has to say. I am getting excited all over again.
