My brother and I have been looking for information on our Dad without luck. Wondering if this could be the same. He died in November of 1945 when I was only 16 months old. He was 46, I believe. We've been trying to find out if he had any brothers/sisters and his parents names. He was living in St. Louis MO when he died. He was married before my mother and had four children. His first wife died in childbirth and none of his children other children knew(they are all deceased now) anything about my grandparents or aunts and uncles. I would love to know if the Jesse that you are referring to is my dad. My brother and I found out where he was buried in St. louis (st mathew's cemetary) and visited it a couple years ago but didn't get a lot of information. Will give you any information that I have.

He would have been about 53 years old then. Do you have anything on this Samuel? I know that his parents (Andrew and Eliz.) were there and took pictures around that time, so maybe he lived there too. Grasping at straws here now! LOL

Sharon and all GROVES families -

I'm looking for connections to a John GROVES born in Co. Monaghan in the mid to early 1800s. John GROVES lived in a boarding house run by a Mary Ann McCLELLAND and her husband Francis GARVIN and later by their daughter Susan GARVIN KINNER in Holmes Chapel (Church Hulme), Cheshire from at least 1881 to after 1901, and worked in England as an agricultural laborer. At some point Susan GARVIN KINNER and John GROVES began living as husband and wife, with or without the benefit of an actual marriage. My grandfather, Herbert KINNER GROVES was the son of Susan GARVIN and Alexander KINNER, married in 1866.

Does this line sound familiar to anyone?

Iredell Groves of Iredell Co. NC

Iredell Groves was b ca 1810 in Iredell Co. NC. Moved to Franklin Co. TN by 1826 then on to Lowndes Co MS where he operated a stage from Columbus MS to Jackson MS prior to 1840. Looking for verification of this stage service and names of parents/siblings.

There is an Abram Groves in Franklin Co TN 1820 census with male in correct age of Iredell. Then later in 1830 Lowndes Co MS census appears Abram Groves again with a male in the correct age group as Iredell.

Is anyone familiar with this family?

Samuel Groves born 1893 Monaghan. May have emigrated to South Africa.

I would be grateful for any help in finding out about what happened to Samuel Groves. He was born on 28 December 1893 in Tullyshelferty, Co Monaghan. He was the youngest of a family that included Joseph, born on 11 May 1875 and James born on 9 March 1879. Joseph and James emigrated to South Africa (to Johannesburg) and set up in business. Samuel was in Monaghan until July 1918 for he registered his father's death. The story in the family was that he had to leave the country (maybe during the troubles in early 1920s?). He must have gone to SA for family there talk about Sam but they have his details mixed up with those of James. Any help would be appreciated; even ideas about where to look for info in SA? Thanks. Margaret

Emma M.Groves and Raine/or Raines in PA and WVA

No connection to the above-listed surnames but I am compiling a history about a former very early village once in PA known as Rainetown which grew up around a sawmill located deep within the woods. The town was named after the brothers who owned the saw mill (Raine/Raines) brothers.
The brothers closed mill about 1904-1905 then went to WVA where they opened up a sawmill then the town which grew up around it was named Rainelle. I have history of Rainetown, in PA and history of Rainelle in WVA.I'm now searching to clarify information I have about Emma M. Groves/Grove. Emma M. Grove/Groves married on 5/17/1887, at the age of 24 (single) either John M.Paine or John M.Raine, age 43, widowed two times, a lumberman of Polk Twp, Jefferson County PA. I believe there is an error of the surname and the her husband's surname was Raine but need to find proof.
Need to find out background about Emma M.Grove/Groves which in the end should solve the mystery. I am willing to share what I have about the couple. Thanks in advance for any assistanced.

All I know si that my great grandfather was James Sundy Groves the son of William & Martha Groves. James was born in 1858 in Fayettville NC. SO William & Martha must have lived there at this time. James married Lillie Ball Edwards in GA is 1881. They were married in Liberty CO GA. Now the Edwards were a big GA family so I doubt Lillie would have been too far from home when she met James which leads me to guess that James was living in GA at the time. So perhaps his parents William and MAartha were too. This account is my sisters and it is best to reply to me directly as she is busy right now. mail@clarksearch.com
