Dear Daniel,
Thanks for sharing the letter from your father on Ancestry.com. (4/2/2002) I recently started researching the Grubbs family. My grandmother was Jean Sarah Grubbs, (20 March 1899, McCandless Twp., Allegheny Co., PA - 24 October 1962, Forest Lake, MN). I have been working with a distant cousin from Salt Lake City, Jeff Krysten. Jeff and I are both descended from the Conrad Grubbs named in the subject line, married to Margaret Ann Wible.
We have been trying to connect to various Grubbs lines and I have several questions I hope you can help me with.
A family history started back in the 1920's listed the father of our Conrad as Jacob Grubbs (the one attacked by Indians, etc.) It listed only one known son for Jacob--Conrad. From your information it would appear that there was another son, George married to Magdalena. If indeed Jacob Grubbs was Jacob Conrad Grubbs it would tie together your family with ours and also explain a reference in another source calling 'our' Conrad, Junior.
I have read several sources which say that Germanic families quite often used the same first name for all the men in the family and that they then used their middle names. This could explain why you have the Colonial ancestor as Conrad and we have him as Jacob. What do you think? Are we connected?
Jacob (Jacob Conrad??)
Conrad married to Margaret Ann Wible
George (1816-1885) married to Susanne Weikert
Cyrus Calvin (Jeff's line)
Elmer Ellsworth (Donna's line)
George married to Magdalena
Andrew (your line)
I hope to hear from you and welcome any suggestions you have for finding more information. Donna
