My Edith (Edy) Grubbs m. John Jacobs 29 Dec 1790. Proved. She said she had a brother Edwin. When John Jacobs d. in Frederick Co., Va in 1811 leaving her with little children, some of the children turned up in Greene Co, TN. In tracing her through the administration of John's estate--she could just make an X and those who vouched were from Middletown, VA where she must have gone after John died. Looking on the Census 1810, 1820, there were Grubbs in Middletown, VA.. Did some of the children end up in TN because of family? Same for Middletown.

Ralph Grubs or Grubbs

Ralph Grubs was born in 1891 and married Dorothy Roberts Pierce. She is listed in the 1930 census in Denver, Colorado as a teacher and divorced. She was also a teacher in Nebraska in the 1920 census. It seems she married a Pierce and then came to Colorado. Ralph's obit says he died in 1950 of a heart attack and his father Joseph was still alive and so was his sister Ruth Orem (?) and his brother Don Grubs. He lived in Idledale, Colorado when he died and they lived in Columbus, Ohio in 1950. He is buried in Arlington, Nebraska. His wife Dorothy didn't die until 1966 in Nebraska.I can not find Ralph in any census or his father. I even did a soundex search in the 1920 and 1930 with no results to speak of. <br>I need some help to find Ralph and his lineage.

Don't overlook Grubb, without the s. Have seen it that way many times. We're looking for parentage of Edwin Grubs who was in Greene Co., TN, from at least 1798 until he died in 1839. A very elusive man; he didn't leave many footprints, but did leave a large family. And they didn't leave many footprints, either!

Thelma, thanks for your note. I believe the branch of the Grubbs family that came through Va. was different from mine. Our family tradition has it that there were three brothers and they split up at Philadelphia and one went south and one went west to Pittsburgh and I don' know where the other was to have gone. I have never had any documentation on that tradition. Perhaps I need to go to the Va. Grubbs and see if they have located an early ancestor. David
