Hi Pat:

I have found some Nienows in my tree. I have seen some in the Gruenebergs line as well as my Emmerich/Schmidt line.
I don't know if they are related to your line of Ninows or not. I've tried the FHL films but they don't go back early enough for me to learn anything about Carl Grueneberg. He
was born 1812 or so. Let's stay in touch and see if anything connects.

I know your posting is several years old, but thought I would try anyway. Although I have no Gruenbuergs in my family as far as I know, I did see that you mention both Dummadel and Wisbu. I have Ninows, Borchardts,and Kollers from Wisbu and my Grandmother was Auguste Karoline Schroder from Dummadel. I understand that Dummadel was very small so I am hoping there may be some connection there. As far as I have been able to learn, her father was Adam Schroeder. I will be interested to hear from you

Am looking for information about a Hedwig "Hattie" Martha Grueneberg.
Hattie was born November 19, 1874 in Stangendorf, Germany.
She immigrated to the states in either 1891 or 1892.
She changed her name to Greeneberg.
She came to the states to help her sister, Annie, clean houses.
Later on she married Carl Julius Malinowski and settled in Central Illinois.
Hattie's mother is Rosa or Rosalie Teschki.

it is worth visiting Hans-Jürgen wolf's fantastic special site on West Prussia www.westpreussen.de which is partly in English when you change "Deutsch" into English. There are lots of information in "Ortsverzeichnisse" = index of places,e.g. German and Polish names. Then you will find a great data base of people who lived there or who have any connection to West Prussia (descendants). No problem to put questions in the "Forum" = message board in English since many Germans understand some English.

There were GRUENEBERGs in my mother's hometown, Nipperwiese an der Oder, Kreis Greifenhagen, in Pommern. This is a different family than my GRUENBERGs. Unfortunately, both are common surnames in that area. I have had good luck by hiring a Polish English-German speaking researcher to read through the town records in the archive in Szcezin. You may want to do the same for your towns, it does not cost much. Writing to the archives does not seem to work, and it is cheaper than a trip to Poland! Good luck to you.

I have Gruenebergs in Kreis Regenwalde and they lived in the towns like: Natelfitz, Dummadel, Neuenhagen, and Wisbu.
Don't know if we have a connection or not......My great great great grandfather was Carl G. who left for USA in 1851. Don't have his parents' names. He had sons Friedrich and Ferdinand and a second wife, Wilhelmine. She may have been sister of his first wife, Friedericke.

Emil Gruenberg (Granberg)

Am looking for the family of Emil Gruenberg (Granberg) located in St Louis Mo area from about 1920's until 1950's that I know of. Women in the family were Ella and Emma. Not sure which was the mother and which was the daughter. Gruenberg owned a factory that made wood iceboxes and probably other articles of wood. Gruenberg apparently changed his surname to Granberg sometime during WW 1 in order to conceal his German heritage. Emil had a brother Karl Ludwig (aka Carl Louis or Louis) Gruenberg who lived in Chicago and to whom I am related.

My GGrandparents emigrated from Zeitlitz, Kr. Regenwalde, Pommern 1867 with their family(some already adults) and two additional members in the travelling party, Beilke & Bachmann. Have original papers to confirm this. Settled in WI.

My ancestors settled in Dodge County between Columbus and Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. I suspect there may be a connection with those from Marathon County but haven't hit upon it as yet. I believe there are still G's in that area and I still have numerous relatives in the Columbus area.

Hi:

Wondering, where in WI your relatives settled? I have some information from other family tree workers that my Great
grandfather was born in Milwaukee. But I haven't been able to tracae it down. Doesn't show in the pre-1907 birth records for 1859 nor does the city directory identify anyone with this name. His name was Louis. I do want to check with the obits from Madison newspapers to see if there is any detail in them that would be helpful. They were up in Marathon County and then went to Madison where they both died in the
1940-50s.

Thanks for any help you might shed on the quest.

i may have some information. my grandfathers name was frank gruenberg and he was born and raised in michigan. he had at least one uncle (or great uncle) names frank gruenber also. i will look into this and post more info.

Hi there,
My great grandfather, Otto J. Gruenberg, was born sometime between 1855 and 1865 and came from Germany - . He came to the US and settled in Brown County, Minnesota. He changed his name to Greenberg, and married Augusta Dahms. They had two children: Paul and a girl. Augusta died and he married Augusta Ziebarth. They had two children Ferdinand and Lillian. I really don't have much more information. But you sound like a good place to start.

I'm looking for ancestors of Caroline Gruenberg/Greenberg.
She was born around 1833 near Stettin/Pommern (former Germany, now Poland.
She married Martin Greenwald, born near Posen (former Germany, now Poland). They emigrated

I am searching for information on Carl Gruenberg alternate spelling is Gruneberg.cemetary records show him born in Louisenhoff, Bezirk, Marienwerder Prownz,West Prussia on 28 Dec 1852 and dying 3 May 1904 in Chickasaw County, Iowa. We know he farmed there. He was married in West Prussia to a Ernestina Jaggusch. They lived and had several children in Gross Leistenau,Sharnhorst,West Prussia, Both these locations were part of Germany at that time. Now they are renamed and are part of Poland. Looking for any information about my gg-grandmother Elizabeth GRUENBERG, b. abt 1844 Norden, Osfriesland, Germany; immigrated as young woman to IL, married Everett(?) VAN HILSEN, also of Norden. Probably lived Peoria area of IL. Widowed and remarried to Fred SAMPEN about 1890. Five children, only know name of daughter Anna VAN HILSEN. Know some things of her descendants, but nothing of parents or family in Germany.

My grandfather, Samuel Gruenberg, emigrated, according to his papers, from the Austro-Hungarian empire on or around 1902, first turning up in Minneapolis (!) in 1904. He later moved to Chicago, and all of us come from there, though the family now is split between Chicago and Washington, DC. We're looking for information about his father, mother and other relatives, particularly brothers and sisters and where in Eastern Europe(The Pale)they resided.

As far as we know, the name has always been Gruenberg.

I wish I knew what part of Prussia my ggrandparents were born in. Both ggrandparents came from there. My ggrandad was Henry Theodore Krieman (also spelled Kreman)they emigrated to America (Chicago) around the 1860's. His oldest daughter didnt have any information on his parents names or his town of birth. I will post more later.
