I too have been looking for info. I am part of the West Coast Grunkemeier's. Family name originates from Westerkappeln, and Osnabruck area in Westphalia region of northern Germany. The name, roughly translated, means watcher by the side of a field. It is an old farming name. My lineage is from Hermann Henrich Grunkemeier, who settled in Burwell, NE, 1870's. There are a lot of Grunkemeier/eyer's from NE. There is a Grunkemeier who is from the states, now living in Germany, a third cousin of mine I found out, who is tracing our lineage in Germany, where the records are supposed to be really good. I have been interested in finding a family crest or something, and have called about 20 Grunkemeier's in Germany (my wife speaks German), but nobody seems to think one exists. Well, this is about what I know. Hope it helps, cuz!
