Re: any Guard family members?

It is too early to tell right now, as to which Guards form my line. But I'm looking into details through my grandfather, as to his mother's family, who was a Guard. I am living in the UK right now, so i'm looking into the possibility of some Guard family members crossing over from the US in the late 19th century (maybe later).

I have the surname GUARD appearing in KY and IL in the early 1800's married to HENSON. The name would be Rebecca Guard or Sarah Guard, but that is all I know at this point.
I am related through the HENSON line.

Hello, My ggg grandfather is James Guard born in Gwinear on 29th October 1801. I think his parents may be James Guard of Crowan and Margaret Eustice (various spellings). I can't contact the online parish clerk for Crowan, Sue Crispin, as I don't have Outlook Email. There's a Susan Crispin as a contact for information on Eustices too, so I wonder if she may have a connection to the family but there's no visible email. It's Outlook again. Who are your Guards? Hi,
I know what it is like to be just getting started:)
Sometimes its best to start with the ancestor closest to you, rather then the most distant. But if you only have the name of the most distant well that's where to start:)

But if you have a name for at least one of your GUARD ancestors, and any other info such as d.o.b., place of birth, it will help.

I have only one GUARD that I am actively searching and it is a marriage connection to a McCook and very distant so don't work on them too often:( but if you give me a name you are researching I will keep a watch for it while I do my own research.

You need to make your subject line more specific and give more details in order for anyone to be able to help you.

Guard's (also Gard spelling) are not a large portion of the population but they are here . . scattered around.

Sorry I can't help you. My line appears to have been here since about 1664.

Thank you so much for the information on the children of Isaac Henry Guard. As I mentioned previously, his father was Isaac Gard, born 1842 in Midsomer Norton, Somerset, and this Isaac's parents were John Garde and Elizabeth Maggs, both of whom were born in Midsomer Norton.

John and Elizabeth had 13 children, and Isaac was the sixth. I am descended from their 12th child, Frederick, who migrated to Queensland, Australia. The Garde family were miners, and most of the family moved to Glamorgan, Wales about 1864. From that time onwards the spelling of their surname is shown as "Guard".

Isaac, born 1843, and an older brother John, moved to Gloucestershire. John remained there, but Isaac and his wife Sarah moved to Monmouthshire by 1883.

1. Samuel Henry Guard, b 11 Dec 1905 Pennsylvania d Mar 1983 Binghamton, Broome County, New York?, married about 1925 Louise C. Schmidt. They had three daughters

2. Melinda Evelyn Guard b 5 Sep 1909 Taylor, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, d 27 Mar 1997 Tunkhannock, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania, m 29 Nov 1928 Frank Richard Blachek. They had 2 sons and 1 daughter

3. Thurza Ellen Guard b 6 Feb 1913 Taylor, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, d 11 Dec 1999 Falls, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania, m 16 Jun 1931 Hallstead, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania - Alfred W. Johns. They had 3 daughters

I have just noticed your message re the parents of Isaac Henry Guard. They were Isaac Garde/Guard, who was born in 1843 in Midsomer Norton, Somerset, who married Sarah Woodland in 1866 in Clifton, Gloucestershire. Sarah was born about 1847 in Midsomer Norton, Somerset.

Isaac Henry was one of ten children, though I have only been able to find the names of three others.

I have the names of the four children of Isaac Henry and Eliza Heydon, but not their descendants. Do you have more on this family?

Since I posted that message I have found out a great deal about my mother-in-law's families. But this person never surfaced in any of all that work, so I would still like to know about him. I have since found that the family name in question was VINSON, but spelled incorrectly in many records. I have Hattie living with her father and step mother in 1900 in IL. She died early, soon after the marriage. This William was born and died in Madison County, Indiana. Let me know if we can help each other.

Where at in Indiana? I have several William GUARDs in my line from Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County/Cleves/North Bend Ohio. My Great-Uncle William had a son born in 1860, so it's possible if this is the area, he might have had a son also named William.

I am the great grandaughter of Silas D. Guard and Nancy Toler. I am very interested in learning more about the Guard history and could perhaps give you some additional info (though I only have limited info)

I do not know anything about your ancestors, but the Rev LN Davis who performed the marriage was my grandfather. I discovered your posting when I "googled" his name. I am seeking further information about him and I know my father graduated from HS in Mill City in 1933.

Hi....William Albert Guard was the son of Hiram T. Guard and Isabella Patton. I have that Louwilla died in Ft. Wayne, IN in 1954. I only have that line back to 1836 where a William Guard married to Sarah Murrey. Louwilla and Willam were married in Cass Co., IN in 1898.

Margaret Guard was the daughter of Henry and Margaret Shiverdecker. Her parents were Jacob Shiverdecker and Margaret Koehler. Jacob Shiverdecker immigrated to this country in 1754 on the USS Henrietta into Philladelphia. I have much more on this line.

I have in my files a Jacob Gard that married to a Sarah Hayes, she was the daughter of Abiah Hayes and unknown wife. Jacob and Sarah were married Dec 16. 1860 and Jacob is the son of Timothy Guard and Rebecca Hayes. The spelling of the name was interchangeable in that line. They are descendents of Alexander Guard and Hannah Keen that settled in the Greater Miami Area of Indiana.

William GUARD b. 1880s in Indiana

Am trying to research my mother-in-law's family, and as she is gone, and didn't talk about them much while here, it has been problematic.

Anyway, I found her parents (Samuel and Jessie Shaffer) in the 1910 census, and living with them was a William Guard. He is listed as 25 years old, a brother-in-law, a widower, and a jockey. My reason for wanting to know about him, is an attempt to try to figure out what her mother's last name was, going on the chance that he had been married to Jessie's sister.

Later I found a record that stated that there was a William Allen Guard (b. 1 Aug 1882 and d. 1946) married to a Hattie VINCENT. My mother-in-law used to tell me that her mother's maiden name was VIMSON, but I have found very little on that name. So.. Vincent sounds close.

I would appreciate any little bit of help that anyone can give to me. Thank you,

Judy, here is what I have collected for Sarah Haines GUARD. I can't help much on Jacob's ancestry. There are several of us researching this WHEELER line.
Sarah's father is John HAINES b abt 1807 in NY, son of George HAINES b abt 1776 and Margaret BOATMAN b abt 1778. Margaret is dau of Henry BOATMAN b abt 1758 and Nancy. Sarah's mother, Rebecca, is dau of Samuel WHEELER b abt 1765 maybe Guildford Co NC, but possibly in Hampshire Co VA, who migrated through TN and into Dearborn Co IN.

Milton Guard

I had quite a few Guards listed on my web site, and there
is a Milton Guard. But I have no further information on him other
than his parents and grandparents. His grandparents Chalon Guard/Leah
Commenges both lived in Indiana, but Chalon died in Ohio and Leah died
in Indiana. They had seven children, Mahlon, Angeline, Simon,
Rachel, Ezra, Almira, and Eunice Guard. My web site address is

For the 1880 Census, they were enumerated in Greene County, Indiana. For the 1900 Census, Mary was widowed and residing back in Muskingum County, Falls Township, Ohio.
