Seeking information on the stout/guffeys connection. Doing stout search and was only able to go back to Bryant Stout (B:Abt.1807),Wife, Nancy Lamar (B:abt.1813), trying to find the parents of bryant, bryant was possibly born in Indiana. Received E-Mail stating look up the "Guffeys of Virginia, Then look for Cecil Albert Guffey, His wife was Anne Marie Stout, Daughter of Harold E. & Aldine R.Stout", Have been unable to confirm this.

Effie Guffey, daughter of Joshua Guffey married Alexander C Ayers

The 1900 census for Richland, Putnam, MO. lists Effie Guffey married to Alexander C Ayers. Her father, listed as Toshua Guffey, was born in KY about 1811. I am interested in the Ayers line as well as the Guffeys as these families both are a part of my ancestry. Alexander was the son of William C Ayers and Almirinda T Haynes. They with their family can be found in the 1880 census for Buchanan, Sullivan, MO. I am trying to learn more on Wm C Ayers born about 1813 in OH. Census info stated his father was born in NJ and mother born in OH. Does anyone in the Guffey line know of these people?

Sarelda Guffey?

Greetings,

I am wondering if anyone has managed to solve the mystery of Sarelda Francis Guffey Truhitte. It seems like half of her descendants believe she died in 1875, and the other half believe she died in 1937. Has anyone actually seen her grave? I know she supposedly had many children and gave birth to her last child in 1901, but then I've also read that it was really Sarelda's sister, Clarissa, who was mother to all these children?

If anyone has a definitive answer to this mystery, let me know...

I have discovered Adrian and George Guffey living with grandparents Henry Livingston Jones and Irene Neal during the 1920 census. There is no apparent parents living in this home. Henry and Irene did have a daughter Nancy b 1886 and died in 1910. So these may be her children. However I dont have a spouse for her or where her husband went to. In 1930 only Adrian remained with the grandparents and I cannot seem to find George after this. Anyone know who these children are and parents and what happened to them all? appreciate any help here.

Lew

I'm trying to find more information on the family of Richard G. Guffey from Wayne & Clinton Counties, Kentucky. I found his widow, Matilda Hughes-Guffey and family in Bevier, Missouri in the 1900 census. Richard must have died here because he gave permission for one of his sons to marry in 1892. I found his sons, James, Van Buren, and John Guffey and a new son, Clay so far. His widow remarried to a Dodson. I also have an old photo with Bevier, Missouri printed on the bottom of a couple holding a baby that may be one of the sons. Richard G. Guffey is the son of Ephraim Guffey and Rachel Smith of Wayne Co., KY.

Re: John and Mary L. Guffee of McMinn Co. TN

I am looking for information regarding John Guffee and Mary L. Guffee. This is the way the US Census taker spelled it from 1900 to 1930. If anyone has any information on this couple, particularly Mary L. I would be grateful for the information. The census shows them as John age 25 and Mary L. as age 20 in 1900. It also shows a daughter Ida Mae as age 1. It is very possible that Mary L. was a Riggs. I would like to find out if it is or not. I have been trying to find her for more years than I can count. Thank you, Jim H. You may e-mail me direct at ljhan2319@yahoo.com

Perhaps someone can help me find the first name of my great, great, great grandfather. I believe he was the son of Alexander Guffey (1804-1863) of Sewickley Twp, Westmoreland Co., PA. My ggg-grandfather married a Margaret Hutchinson and had a daughter, my gg- grandmother, Minnie May Guffey. Minnie May married Hiram Boggs and had Daisy May Boggs, my grandmother. Daisy May married Frederick Kaylor and had Ardis Kaylor, my mother.

My ggg-grandfather died sometime between the birth of Minnie May in 1864 and 1875 when his wife Margaret Hutchinson remarried a Hiram Gilson. In the 1880 census it lists Margaret and a Minnie M. Gaffey (spelling error in the census), step-daughter living in the Hiram Gilson household.

If anyone can help I would be in your debt. I have been looking for months for this one name!

Thank you,
Kathy Dowe

Guffey and Findley Marriage, 1792

My wife's grgrgrandfather is William Findley Guffey (1798-1883). He is the second child of James Guffey (born in Ireland 1736 - died 1806) and James second wife, Mary ("the youthful" daughter of William Findley - Member of Congress). This description is from the report of the "Historic Committee" at what appears to have been a reunion of Guffeys in Westmoreland County PA in 1886. Our memeographed copy has a note at the end : Copied July 4, 1958 by Lt. Col. John Guffey Snyder (Son of Sarah E. Guffey)

James was 56 in 1792 when they married. Which daughter of William Findley did he marry, the 32 year old daughter of William and Margot Russell or the 19 year old daughter of William and Mary Elizabeth Cochran born in 1773?? I would think, the latter. I have not found any mention of this marriage in any Findley, Findlay, or Finley information that I have seen. James was one of the early distillers of whiskey, so it is logical that he was well acquainted with William.

Does anyone have any information about Mary and this marriage? Did Mary remarry after James died in 1806? ? ?

I am looking for Sarah A. Guffey b. 08-03-1846 TN. m. February 17, 1866 McMinn Co., TN February 17, 1866 to Isaac L. Smart b. ? TN. Isaac served in Co.'A' 7th or 8th Tennessee Infanty. His grave marker does not have a birth or death date but shows him to have served in the 8th TN Inf. Both the 7th and 8th list a Isaac Smart, but Isaac L. smart is listed in the 7th, all though he listed the 8th when he applied for his Civil War Pension. Shortly after thier marrage they moved to Missouri . The first of nine children was b. in Missouri, January 1867 and last child b. January 02, 1885, also in Missouri. I am assuming they stayed in the same general vicinity all the rest of thier lives. I found them only in the 1870 and 1900 census in Maries Co.MO, Johnson twp. I haven't been able to locate them in the 1880 census. In 1900, Sarah is a widow and two of her children, the eldest son, Archibald 1867 and the youngest son, Thomas is still living with her. Can anyone tell me anything about Sarah or Isaac?

Homer Cook

Henrietta GUFFEY, b. in Missouri

HI, My natural grandmother was Henrietta Guffey, I believe she was born in Mosouri (sorry spelling, it is 9:19pst and my brain went south) around 1885-1889. She married a William John Sullivan or John William Sullivan. She had 5 children by Sullivan when she lived out her in Southern California. Sullivan died of a massive heart attack probably between 1926-1929. The reason I am searching for information is because all 5 of the children were placed out for adoption. My father Don was adopted by the Warman family of Bell, CA around 1926. The other children were Betty, Eugune and Gordon. A fifth child died. Henrietta Guffey-Sullivan died of breast cancer. I am interested in finding out about my biological ancestry. Can anyone help me. PLease E-mail me any information you have. It would be greatly appreciated.

They had a son, Augustus Edward Olson in 1909 and then a daughter, Emma. The name Ora Guffey comes up in family history, too. I know Elizabeth travelled a lot and lived into her late 80's or early 90's when she went to Little Rock, AR. Anything you can give me would be great!

Bradcut Guffey in Missouri

I'm looking for someone in Putnam County and surrounding areas who has done a fairly extensive research on the Guffeys who came from Tennessee and Kentucky in the 1800s. My family is descended from Bradcut Guffey who would have been a nephew to the Henry Guffey who died in Putnam County in 1874 at 108 years old. My family tree is pretty complete, but I'm trying to fill in some other branches. I've got Joe's book on the Guffieys, but he stops at Henry and Bradcut. Thanks ! Tommiealbertlee@aol.co.
