Kimberly, do you know any more about the history of your line? My gggggrandfather, Almond Gwinn (variously spelled) was born in Halifax, Virginia in 1761 to Bartlett Gwinn, perhaps born in Ireland, and Catherine Fambrough, and he married Newraney Mullins there in 1784. They moved to Tennessee and eventually on to Saline County, Missouri. There was an older Almond with Bartlett early on and it is supposed that they were brothers.

The name Almond is so unusual that it is hard to believe that your line and mine are not connected somewhere back in time.

Sharon

Hi Shawn,

I'm not sure, if you have recieved any response to your querry. I found it extremely difficult to complete the guin jigsaw puzzle. I have seen guins hailing from UK, Scotland, US and India. It's kind of strange, because, my ethnicity is strictly east-indian, yet I am amazed to see guins being caucasians and hispanics, as well.
Extremely confused and not able to figure out, from where to start the thread.

Raz Guin, born in 1840, son of Levi Guin, was my GGGrandfather. Raz's son was Alman B. Guin b. 1885, Alman B. Guin's son was my grandfather, Bedford R. Guin (born in Alabama in 1917). Bedford moved to Natchez, MS where the rest of his siblings moved to as well.

I have found records where Levi Jr. and his brothers Raz and Asa fought in the Civil War on the Union side even though they lived in Alabama at the time. Their eldest brother, Gilbert, did not join the war but was murdered due to angry feeling from the community towards the Guin family in regards to their political postion. Gilbert was murdered in MS on his way to Columbus and is buried at a Baptist Church near where he was murdered. I cannot remember the name of this church, but my cousin has been there and has seen where he is buried.

I do know that there was an article in the Fayette newspaper naming Asa and Levi as Tories.

I can confirm that Levi Sr.'s wife was Nancy Davis Poole.

I hope this helps...

Kymbery Guin Belk
kbelk@wiserecycling.com

Thanks for your reply. It very well could have been that church. I believe Hardy's wife might have been related to a Melton by marriage, and Hardy had land dealings with a Michael Melton, who I believe but can't prove might be Hardy's wife's brother-in-law. And they did live in the Lane's Creek Area. I wonder if the church still exists. I would love to contact them. Thanks so much for the clue.
Karen Spencer

Oh dear, honestly I don't know. Looking back at death certificates, I know a Meltonsville Church existed around the turn of the century. However, it's difficult for me to find information online about when the church was established. Hopefully, I'll be going there sometime this summer to do some family research, so if it's important to you, I can totally ask about the church history and relay that info to you.

My husband is related to your line through the first Asa Guin born 1786 in North Carolina and died in 1849 in Alabama, through a son name Holden born in 1811 in North Carolina. Asa was married to someone named Mary. Asa's father was Asabel Gewin born about 1735 in North Carolina and died about 1818 in North Carolina. Asabel's father was Thomas Gewin born 1700 in Virginia and died in 1761. Thomas' father was Christopher Gewin born about 1660 in England and died about 1720 in USA. If this is the same line, do you have any information on Holden Guin? I know his wife's first name was Samelia. But I don't have any death dates for them. And do you have any information on the wives of the Guin's before the first Asa?

I have a tree that lists Rachel Emiline Brazeel as the wife
of one ASA III. Asa III born in 1819 - died 1864. Rachel Emmiline Brazeel born 1823 - died 1886.
It shows Holden born to Asa Sr and Mary in 1811 and no death date. Married first to Purmeila Harris, born 1817, no death date
married number 2 to Sarah J. Clanton born 1830, no death date. This tree is not in a form that can be e-mailed
now. I had it faxed to me. It does go back to Asabel Gewin 1735-1818, no wife listed, and that's all it says about him except for
listing his children, Jeremiah - married to Rachel Poe and Rebecca Otts, Asa SR? married to Mary ?, Levi Guin, SR - married to Nancy ? and
maybe Jason and Alfred as two more sons, but not documented.
of the sons. Do you know if this is correct?

I have other inf that show that there may be a Jeremiah Levi who is one in the same.

Will Communicate more later.

Peggy Guin Faulkner

I have seen the name Holden Guin many times during the
research I have been doing. Look in the Virginia Land Grant and
Patent files - I think through www.ancestry.com or www.familysearch(which
is free)and you will see his name on several parcels of land.
A lady names Janie Spence is doing research on all of the Guins in
Northwest Alabama. I will email you her e-mail address because
whe has a lot of info on the whole family and is looking for info
ion the lines that go down to the present, to finish a book she's working on.

I'm leaving on a trip until Thus. of this week and will get back with
you after that.

Where do you live and where did you grow up?
I'm always interested in who I'm communicating
with and their history.

Thanks,

Peggy Guin Faulker

.GUINN family of Van Wert Co., OHIO

My grandmother Susan Edith Guinn was born in Van Wert in 1883. Her father's name was Zale. He married twice and had 14 children in total. At some point the family split and my grandmother went to live with a sister in Ft. Wayne, IN. She was the third youngest child.

Any information anybody has about her siblings would be greatly appreciated.

Laurie
