Do you have any connection to John and Mary Barton in Brooklyn around 1860s? They would be first cousins to my Guinanes.

My gggf Matthew Guinane (Gannon, b. 1834, Killaloe, co. Clare) and wife Mary Farrell b. 1838. Came over to Brooklyn around 1864 and returned to Co. Monaghan Ireland in 1865 after the birth of their son John Matthew.

Matthew Guinane was the son of Matthew Guinane and Honora Cooney of Killaloe, Co Clare. Honora's sister Winifred married Patrick Barton.

At this link you will find transcriptions of some letters that Matthew1'son and Matthew2's brother wrote home from Australia between 1867 and 1882.

I have no info on Matthew1's siblings but you dates and location are very intriguing!
