I'm preparing a blog page on famous Wacoans. After looking at the City Directory found for Michael Guinan on Ancestry.com, I doubt that "Texas" was born on a ranch as most of her biographies suggest. I also can't find anything that validates that she attended the Loretta Convent School as most biographies also report as fact. I recall references to a Sacred Heart Convent in some books on Waco history, but I will need to verify this. Questions: 1) Was "Texas" born on a ranch? 2) Did she attend a convent school?
By the way, the 1886 City Directory lists Michael Guinan living at 1436 Washington Avenue, and at this point in time St. Mary's was located at 1401 Washington. [During the church's history, it has been located in four locations]. In 1889, the family lived at 523 N. 4th St. and in 1890 at 603 N. 4th St.--all of which would have been very near downtown Waco.
