Sinnie had sons and one daughter.Charlie,Lumus,Evans,Herman and Annie. If this information is in any ones tree or if anyone know of them and can share, please reply. The lady to contact is June Stewart. I know that they came from NC and migrated to Missouri about the 1820's. I am at my sister's home today but will save your request and when I go home I will send you what I have. My mom just died so that is why I am here. Your cousin, Carole

Did you ever get the correct of this GUINN book or of the woman's e-mail address? I'm a decendent of the Guinns of Lincoln County, Missouri. I live here in Missouri about 3 hours away from Lincoln County. I've just started searching this location for more information. I see that the family lived here from about 1820 to the 1850's when my line moved to Texas.

He was gone by 1860........
My question, probably a NO, is could he be the one in Jackson Co., AL in 1850 also? Probably not but the names fit my Elias Henderson Guinn.

Bock Descendants: George Guinn and Rhoda Bock , IL

Hi!

I'm looking for information on the Bock/Boltz families from Davenport, Scott County, IA and Moline, Rock Island County in IL and their descendants. I'm researching the Bock Family,

Henry Fred Bock, met Agnes Otto, I believe in NY, served in the Civil War and Wilhelminia m2. A. Boltz/m1. Agnes Otto.
They had Emma Francene, Rudolph Wayne, Lena, Female, Rhoda, Harry F., William E., Florence M., Roy (Mickey) L., Roland (Rolly/Rolie H. Bock.

They married into these names: Jacob Justin Brown, Ida Ellingsworth, Charles R. Boyd, George Guinn, Goldie Olson, Hazel Rose.

I have a female that I know nothing about, Harry died in an explosion on a ship in San Diego, CA during WWI., Florence never married she worked for a Lawyer in Davenport, IA and I don't think Rollie married either.

Henry had also been previously married and widowed to a Agnes Otto. He other children from that marriage also.

Their names were Charles, Sophie Agnes and Augusta Bertha Bock.

They married into these names: Emma, Julius Henry Wehrend/Weiren and Thomas Ward Thomson.

Does anyone recognize any of these names, any help would be greatly appreciated.

They all mostly born and resided in the Davenport, Scott Co. and Moline, Rock Island, IL areas.

This is a summary of what I have on Henry Fred Bock.

1. Bef. 1869 he was a Merchant Marine in the German Navy.

2. Came to New York bef. 1869, sometime during the civil war from Schlessig, Holstein, Germany. He joined the Navy during the Civil War and served as a Machinist aboard the U.S.S. Queen. We also think that he was on the U.S.S. Kerrsarge. His rank was Master of Arms. Served from 1863-1864. We believe the U.S.S. Stamen Queen was out of Ohio.
3. Place of birth Hamburg, 24yrs of age, grey eyes, brown hair, 5'8", 177lbs, complexion dark.
4. Notes on Civil War papers include Miss Agnes Otto of New York, New York, he was discharged on July 17/18, 1864. Munster roll states the ship is the Stamer Queen, his entry list Ships 10, Bock, Henry, Sea, 1863 July 1, 25th August 1863 Munster Roll.
5. Other notes indicated that Henry F. Bock enlisted on July 31, 1863 at Boston, Mass. for 1 yr as a seaman. Also listed sometimes as Harry F. Bock, Pension - April 26, 1902 Pension, discharged in Brooklyn Navy Yard, NY.
6. Agnes and Henry were married in the year of 1869, then they moved to Davenport, Scott Co., Iowa. They lived there till 1884, then moved to Osborn
7. Agnes died and he remarried to Wilhelminia Boltz, believe she was a neighbor at the time.
8. Probate-P1910
9. Listed in City Directory for Moline, Rock Island, IL in 1910 and before 1910, Occupation Woodworker.
10. He supposedly had a son who died from stepping on a nail and not telling anyone the result was death from Lockjaw--Died young under 12.
11. Addresses: New York, New York
Found address on Female Bock, born Sept 8, 1884--718 Brown Street, Davenport, Scott Co., Iowa
12. Found on the 1910 Census--1533 25th Ave., Moline, Rock Island Co., Illinois

Some of his children could have live in the following states: Davenport area, IA, Moline, Osborn, IL, Black Duck, Ten Strike, MN, Chatanooga, TN.

Looking for Henry and Wilhelminia Boltz descendants:

Looking for information on Rhoda Bock and George Guinn's children. Rhoda was born on Sept 11, 1885 and died bef. 1910 married George in Moline, Rock Island, IL aft. 1900.
Their children were
George Jr., Violet and June Guinn.

Does anyone know of these relatives, would love to share info.

Thanks,

Terry

Thanks, the FAST bit was my mistake. FAST is the line I'm primarly researching. David Carter Davis married Mary Jane Roach in 1870 in Bell Co., Texas and their second daughter, Sarah Jane Davis married a William J. Davis in 1898 in Salomonville, AZ. Sarah's daughter, Lois Alameda, married by wife's grandfather Charlie Fast in 1915.

Are you aware of any indian connection to the Guinn or Davis lineages? Family story has been that there was some Cherokee blood in the family. Doesn't appear to be from the FAST side of the family though.

Was Young Davis a Bapist minister by any chances? Altha (Davis) Danley's obituary says he was a Bapist minister when the family moved to Bell County, Texas about 1864/65.

Sure do appreciate the information confirming Young Davis and Matilda Guinn having married in Polk County, Tennessee. Have been looking for confirmation for a long time. David Carter Davis and Mary Jane Roach's eldest son was named Young Davis. I always suspected he had been named for D.C. Davis's father. The younger Young Davis was murdered in a cafe in Dougles, AZ in 1916.

Your grandmother was Sylvania GWIN, daughter of McCager GWIN and Mary MULLINS.

McCager GWIN, was born Mar 1874, Perry Co., KY and was the oldest child of James "Grancer" GWIN and Mary Ann "Polly" NEACE. (ref. 1880 Census Perry, Kentucky; Roll: T9_438; Film: 1254438; Pg: 524.2000; ED: 81; JAMES GWINN)

James "Grancer" GWIN was born Apr 1850, Breathitt Co., KY. He could NOT of had children during the Civil War, because he would of been 11 to 14 years old.

The Civil War ended 1864, therefore any(or all) of your grandmothers uncles were born well after the Civil War. There was not a "Dewey". I believe your refering to McCager's brother "Drury F. GWIN, b. 1880 Perry Co., KY, died before 1898.

Unless your talking about your grandmothers Great-Uncles and still, there was not a Dewey GWIN. Again possibly confusing with Fletcher Drew GWIN, b. 9 Oct 1856, Lost Creek, Breathitt Co., KY. d. 2 Aug 1942

David Warner is the father of Ann and Catherine. Both his daughters lost their husbands in Civil War. Ann had been married to John "Duke" Guinn and they had a son A. Luna Guinn. The last record I can find of either Luna or Ann was in 1900 and they were in Red River TX. Ann was still unmarried and she had only the one som A.L.

Catherine had been married to Robert C. Carter and they had a daughter, Mattie Carter, who died when she was 18. Kate Carter never remarried and the last record I can find of her was in 1910 when she was living with her nephew John Stewart Warner Jr.

The final member of this sad little family is David Warner and I can only guess that he is the son of George Warner the oldest son on David Alvin Warner and based on the timing I would guess that George had also been killed in the war and his wife was lost too. David is living with his aunt Ann Guinn and cousin Luna in the 1880 Census and then I loose track of him. .... Hope this helps (John Phillips)

---------------------
This John "Duke" GUINN is the son of Absalom B. Guinn and Bethunia "Bethena" Bostick

Mike

Unfortunately, I know nothing about Young DAVIS beyond his marriage to Matilda GUINN, as recorded in "Heritage of Polk County Tennessee 1839-1997".

My GWINN/GUINN connection is a female one, through Almond and Newraney MULLINS GWINN's daughter, Mary Ann, who married John COPELAND. This branch of the family was one of the ones that went on to Missouri. I have never heard any stories of Indian connections among this branch -- I am surmising that those connections may have been limited to the branch(es) that stayed in TN.

Sharon

Hi Greg,

I have the same information, including that about Bartlett's birthplace, deathplace and time frame, and sibling relationship to Almond, which I have never been able to verify.

I descend through Almond and Newraney MULLINS GWINN's daughter, Mary Ann, who married John COPELAND. Which of their children is your ancestor?

I also descend through Newraney's brother, Abner, so the MULLINS line is a double connection for me. How are you faring with your research into that line?

Sharon

This branch of the GUINNS/GWINNS is a collateral line to mine and I don't have much original research associated with them. According to photocopied pages of the book "Heritage of Polk County Tennessee 1839-1997" sent to me by another researcher, Bartholomew "Bat" Guinn was born 18 Feb 1830. His sister, Matilda, was born 22 Dec 1820. Their parents were Almon GUINN and his wife, Sarah LILLARD GUINN. This Matilda married Young Davis. Hope this is helpful. I have not come across the surname FAST.
Sharon

There are some marriages with native American families in the Guinn line. This was no doubt a motivating factor in their move from Tennessee to Arkansas and then to Oklahoma. The following is from my history summary:

There appears to be at least some question as to whether the Guinn family was at this point considered white or Native American. Several families moved to Arkansas and Oklahoma and there was some marriage into Native American families.

There was a court case heard before the Oklahoma Supreme Court in 1940, the case of Smith vs Murray. The case held that the surviving spouse of Robert Smith, a Osage Indian was not entitled to any of his property because she was not a Native American. Law held that tribal property would not go to the surviving spouse if the spouse was not part of the tribe. Juanita Wilson Smith, the surviving spouse, claimed that she was of Indian blood, but that it was Cherokee, not Osage, and that as a Native American she was entitled to the inheritance. Juanita claimed that she was Cherokee and that her Cherokee blood line came through her great grandfather Bartholomew “Bat” Guinn. This is the same Bartholomew Guinn who was a son of Almon and Sarah.

Evidence was heard before the court that Bat Guinn was not of Cherokee Blood, never enrolled as a Cherokee and in fact was white. Further evidence showed that Asa and Nancy, brother and sister of Bat were also white. There was evidence presented that Neurana Mitchell, another sister of Bat’s (I have no idea if this is the woman we know as Minerva or another sister we did not know about), Neurana did register as a Cherokee and there was other evidence introduced that claimed the Guinn family was in fact Cherokee.

The final ruling of the Oklahoma Supreme Court was that Juanita was in fact white and as such was not entitled to any portion of Robert Smith’s estate.

The Dawes rolls of the Cherokee nation were made from 1898 to 1914 and attempted to identify every person claiming Cherokee nationality. It includes 28 people with the last name of Guinn including one named Almon A. Guinn. There is definitely a tie into our family somewhere.

While enrolled membership in a Native American tribe is usually looked upon as a positive thing today this has not historically been the case. Native American’s who could pass for white in the 19th century generally did. Going back to the great removal and the trail of tears that opened Polk County Tennessee up to white settlers, identification as a Native American resulted in a loss of basic property rights under the law. There was great incentive for our ancestors to hide their Native American ancestry.
Re: Looking for Guinn married to Ann E. Warner around 1860

Mike:
You have my missing piece - thank you.
Luna was a boy instead of a girl as shown on the Census. Ann Warners son Luna was my dads grandfather. I figured that her husband was killed in the war because of the timing. I had found a Duke Guinn living as an overseer close to Ann Warner but could never find anything else on him.
Luna actually was always known by Looney Guinn and only used L. Guinn on everything including his tombstone. He married Ida A. Long and had 4 dau., Kate, Maggie Lee, Stella and Archie. Maggie Lee is my fathers mother.
Ann Warner Guinn (granny) actually married B.B. Blackburn close to the end of both of their lives. She is buried in Henson Cemetary not far from Bogata, Texas, Red River County, where she lived.
I really appreciate your response to this. I had queried genforum but did not come up with anything of consequence. I cannot wait to tell my dad about his ggrandfather, all he every knew was "Grandpa Blackburn" and he has always wondered about his grandpa Guinns dad.

.Looking for Guinn married to Ann E. Warner around 1860

This Guinn would be my gg-grandfather. He was born in Tennessee, as says the Census for his son A.L./Luna.

He was married to Ann E. Warner of Calhoun, Mississippi, dau of Mary McDonald and David Alvin Warner around 1861ish. In the 1860 Census she was living at home with her parents as single. In the 1870 Census she was living at home with her parents as Ann Warner and a Luna Guinn age 8 and a Mattie Guinn age 9. I'm not sure Mattie was her dau or not. Guinn, her husband was not listed.

Ann E Gwin is listed as a widow in the 1880 Census, living with Luna Gwin 18, son, and David Warner 18, nephew.

In 1900 she is listed as living with her son, A.L. Quinn, In Red River County Texas.

This A.L./Luna Guinn is known to me as my ggrandfather Looney Guinn, b.16 Nov 1861 d.15 Sept 1906, married to Ida Long, b. 31 May 1865 d.18 Aug 1943, living in Bogata, Red River County, Texas.
Maggie Lee, one of their 4 girls married Delbert M. Puckett and they are my grandparents.

I cannot find any strong information on who the Guinn was that married Ann Warner. My Grandmother and Aunt Kate used to say that she was married about 3 years total out of her life. Grannie (Ann Warner) was married to a B B (Grandpa) Blackburn of Titus County Texas for about 2 years so she would have only been married a year around 1860/1861/1862 before "Guinn" either left or died.

If anyone can be of any help please email at maggiesmith@pdq.net.

The Matilda Guinn that I believe married Young Davis and moved to Bell County, Texas about 1864/65 is buried in the North Belton Cemetery, Bell County, Texas. She is buried with her daughter Sarah M. (Davis) Smith and Sarah's husband in plot #63. Dates for Matilda are 8/11/1819 to 4/29/1888. ps- Sarah was previously married to a man named Wood(s) before marring J. R. Smith.

Given the names of "Mollie" Davis's children in the 1860 Census (Polk Co., Tennessee) and those of the children in 1870 Census (Bell Co., Texas), I'm pretty sure this is the same Matilda/Mollie Davis.
