Yes I did receive your post. Thank you for that. I am hoping we will be able to work together and get some of this puzzle and spaces all together.
I've been working on genealogy for years. I am self taught and not a very good student. It makes it more difficult for me when each generation named a child using the same name was 6 generations back. Minerva Gum married William Marsh. My husband Clyde, his mother's name was Frankie Margarete Marsh. And many in this Marsh family did a good job at keeping records, I will be doing some more research to help us more.
Later, stay in touch

regards, Maxine Davies kansaslassie@gmail.com

Old photo of John B. & Perry L. Gum, 1888

I recently purchased an old cabinet photo dated May, 1888. The photo shows two young brothers and is labeled on the back "John B. Gum, taken May 1888, age 5 years and Perry LeBlaine Gum, May 1888, aged 2 years & 3 months". The photo was taken at the Stockton Art Gallery (at an unknown location). The photo came from an estate in Texas. Attached is a copy of the photo.

If these are your ancestors, please contact me.

Randy McDaniel
Webster, Texas

Hi there:
Maybe if you can tell me where you are connected to the Marsh family, it might be easier for me to know where to start to get to your branch of this tree. So many names and so many of the same name.
There was a William Marsh b 15 Jul 1826 in Macon Co., TN.d 21 Aug 1866 in Macon Co., TN,He is the one who married Minerva Gum b4 Dec 1825 in Macon Co.,TN.
William was the s/o Phillip Marsh b 1801 NC & Mary Parker b 1803 in VA.
Phillip was s/o Charles Marsh & Catherine d/o Chief Joseph of Cherokee nation.
Charles s/o Robert Marsh & Martha Head.
There are many Marsh folks born in CT. and some in NC. By DNA records it seems some doing that have not made connection between the 2 groups, in what I have researched, I believe there is a connection. But, I am not a professional at this. At this point we have a brick wall with where Robert's family came from or maybe I should say, who they are. Hope this much helps you, let me know if it sounds like what you need and I will continue with the children. Regards, Maxine

Thank you. Millard's grandfather was Barry Gum and grandmother was Nancy Baker. I believe his mother to be Clarinda Gumm. Father unknown. Just in case any of that rings a bell. Nancy was black so I don't know if they were not recognized as family. Thanks again! Gayle

Sherry
I will let you know, at this point I just want to know who it is. I know it is not my dad. He had not been to Alaska at that point in his life. I just want to know how the person is related - They had to have been a close relation to look so much like him.

Hey,

Sorry. The names didn't ring a bell for the grandmother. But like I said earilier, try searching for Gum instead. She did say that father back Gum was more common.

Hope that was helpful!

Joslyn

Hi!

My name is Joslyn (Gumm) Whitt. Try searching for Gum. I found a Millard Gum and Pollie. I'm not sure if you and I share a "branch" but I thought I remember someone talking about a Pollie in my family. I'll ask my grandmother today. I know I have a Merritt and an Ida who are brother and sister. They would be my Grandfather's uncle and aunt.

Gum is the more common spelling as far as I know. For my family the double m was a misprint on the birth certificate so my father has a different spelling from the rest of the family. I'll post again when I talk to my grandmother. Good luck!

Joslyn

picture of "Gum" in a alaska magazine

This is a vague request but nothing ventured nothing gained. When I was a girl in the mid to late 70's I seen a picture of a man with the last name "Gum" holding a salmon in a magazine from Alaska. I believe the fish was taken from the Kenai River or from that area anyway. I do not remember his first name nor the name of the publication. I was a magazine about the Alaska area. The man was "fiftyish" - If anyone knows of a picture like this or knows who this man is I would love to know. He looked shockingly like my father yet could not have been him. Please contact me with questions or if you can help.
Thanks Julie
