Thank you for the pictures, do you know any male Gunn's from this family of Gunn's, it would be good for dna to tie this family to others, it seems like it stops with George T. Gunn's father. Nicholas P. Gunn and Mahala. My other side of Gunn's goes back to Thomas and Sarah Boatwright Gunn. It sure would be good to see if this is the same family.
Kay

She married Perry Garey (Gray in marriage record) in Frio County, TX in 1894. I believe she was 16 so her birth date would be abt 1878. Have you run across an Ida B or Ida Bell Gunn? Thank you.

Bernard Gunn & Hellene Connelly are also my GGG Grandparents. The earlest recorded record I have found is the batpism of son Bernard in 1819 in Bourcherville Canada. I also am having trouble finding a tie to Ireland. Our family lore has it that Bernard and a brother came from Ireland to Canada. I am willing to share what Ihave on the Bernard Gunn tree if you are instrested. Also intrestred in your branch.
P.P.Gunn and his descendants

I am working on my wife's MORRIS family and have come across something of a mystery.
Mary Elizabeth Morris (1853-1926) married Masadonia D. FOWLER (1846-1926) in about 1872 in Calhoun Co., WV.

They had a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Fowler (1882-??), who married Luther LITTLE (1879-1972). Mary Elizabeth Fowler and Luther Little, in turn, had a daugther, Bertha Viola Little (1912-??), who married Thurl GUNN (or Edward Thurl Gunn) (1914-2002). And there is lies the mystery. Who is Thurl Gunn?

Some sources list him as the son of Peter Poe (P.P.) Gunn (1897-1979) and someone by the name of Flossie (last name unknown). P.P.Gunn was a prominent politician and businessman in Calhoun Co., WV.

Most of the online sources for P.P. Gunn do NOT list Flossie as a wife (or anything else) or Thurl as his son.

Flossie is listed in the 1920 census as the wife of Ray Boggs and a complex household which I think the census taker may have screwed up (see below):

1920 Census listing for Sherman, Calhoun Co., WV (ED 22, p. 8A):

Claria B Pettit, age 46, Head of household, Single, b. WV, Occ. Farmer

Cora M Burrows, age 54, Sister, Wd, b. WV

Gearl Burrows, age 19, daughter, Single, b. WV
(surely the daughter of Cora Burrows and not Caria Pettit)

Earl Burrows, age 19, son, Single, b. WV
(surely the son of Cora Burrows and not Caria Pettit)

Ray Boggs, age 30, son-in-law, Married, b. WV, Occ. Farmer
(Son-in-law of whom: Cora of Claria?)

Flossie Boggs, age 24, daughter, Married, b. WV
(the daughter of Claria Pettit OR Cora Burrows?)

Thurl Gunn, age 4, son, single, b. WV
(probably the son of Flossie Boggs and not Claria, but . . . ..)

Thurl is NOT living with Ray and Flossie Boggs at the time of the 1930 census and I have been unable to identify where he might have been. He would have only been 15.

Thurl Gunn apparently died in Round Rock, Williamson Co., TX in 2002.

Can any one help to identify who the father of Thurl Gunn might be?

Can anyone help to identify the maiden name of his mother, Flossie?

Willing to exchange information.

Bill Muller (muller1938@yahoo.com)

The attached photos were taken in Litchfield, IL about 1885. They were stored with photos of Sylvester Ash, Mary Ann Wallis-Lemon-Ash, Jesse Ash, Zachariah and Leander Thacker. I believe they may be photos of Elijah Ash Jr. and Mary Groner and Jackson Ash and Nancy Gunn both were sons of Mary Ann Wallis and Elijah Ash. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Gunn Devon

Records indicate Jasper arrived in Boston from England in 1635 aboard the ship "Defence." I have a note regarding a newsletter of the Clan Gunn Society of North America in which there is an article by Lois Chase Milne who is also a descendant of Jasper. She has done research on this Gunn line. She states that Jasper's christening was at Great Burstead, England, dated 9 August 1607. He was the fifth of six children, the only boy. His parents were Henry Gunne and wife Sarah. The clue to this was a child that sailed on their ship "The Defence," in 1635, named Phebe Maulder. Phebe's christening record is also located in the same parish. Milne believes the Gunns were a few generations removed from Scotland, where many Jasper Gunns are found in records of this time period.

I also have this note: "I'm a Jasper Gunn descendant, still living in Milford, CT. There still are several of us here, but only one family with the Gunn surname. ... I, too, have heard that Jasper Gunn came from Great Burstead. It's in Essex, just south of Billericay. I found this information in the IGI at the local Mormon Family History Center."

I hope this information is useful to you.

My ancestor, Thomas Gunn, arrived in New England from Devonshire in 1630, probably on the sailing ship "Mary and John" out of Plymouth. He was born about 1614. His parents are unknown, though I have identified a couple of good suspects. There are records of Gunns living in Devonshire in the 1500s. It's possible they were decendents of Scots, but it's likely they were not.

Betsy,

There is a lot online about Jasper Gunn. I believe Ken Gunn's website has much of it.

Jasper Gunn sailed from London to Boston on the ship Defence, which left London about the end of July and arrived in Boston on 8 Oct 1635. The trip took about 70 days back then!

My line is the Thomas Gunn line. Thomas was probably from Devon, but I don't believe that's the case with Jasper.

Good luck with your search,
James Gunn

Re: Pictou, Nova Scotia Gunns

Hello - I'm actually looking for information on Gunns from the Pictou area. My gggrandfather, Donald Gunn, immigrated to Nova Scotia along with either 2 or 4 of his brothers. According to my dad they were all ships carpenters - Donald is listed as such on marriage records of his children. The Gunn brothers arrived in Pictou in either 1841-42 or 1846-47 - at least one of the brothers stayed in the Pictou area. Donald and his wife, one Catherine Ross (b 1811 in Scotland) traveled on to Cape Breton and settled in New Harris, Victoria County. I do not know Donald's yob or place of birth in Scotland - judging by Catherine's yob I am guesstimating 179? - 1810. They named their only son Alexander and he named his only son William; these may have been Donald's brothers names. I am hoping to find a trace of Gunns who immigrated to the Pictou area around that time who were ships carpenters by trade. Any help would be very much appreciated.

There was a William Gunn that lived in Noblesville, Indiana who was not a known relative of the Elmer (my dad) or any of his brothers listed above. I think he might have had a son named Wayne.

Hi!
I was wondering if you have any info. on Dewey and Everett Gunn about when they died. I was looking at their death certificates and Dewey died 24 Sept. 1928 from gunshot wounds in Fowlerton, Tx. & Everett Died 26 Sept. 1928 in Fowlerton, Tx. Strange!!!
I attached a picture to see if you might know who the 4 guys standing up are; the man sitting is Clavin Winn but I think the men are Gunns and the 2nd from the left many Ray Dell Gunn.
Any help would be great,
Have a good day,
Katy

Reuben Gunn

i came across a book on line, the book is Reuben Gunn written by Benjamin Jesse Gunn in 1891 FT. Scott,KS. Monitor Pub.House and book Bindery

Though I would let you know what he says about Reuben.

The Parentage and nationality of Reuben Gunn is probably destined to remain unknown, four different branches of his family asserting,in turn,German,Scotch,Welsh or Irish parentage: but those who favor the first seemto have the best evidence. The son of a Grand Duke in Germany, bornabout 1752, he landed at Charleston,SC in 1769. But little is known of his life. He married a Mrs. Hudson,a French lady whose maiden name was Mary Goforth. Her daughter Rebecca Edwards, left a family which can not be found. Reuben Gunns sons and daughter were born in N.C.reared in S.C. and emigrated to Dickson co,TN.in the early part of the present century. There after the Mothers death he married Nancy Jones. He died in 1822.
(1)Charles B:1781,M:Vernettie Page D:Dec.11,1850 (2) James B:May 30,1783 M: Ursula Sweeney Dec.18,1806 D:June 20,1866 (3)Abisha B:1785 M:Betsey BeardD:Jan,1864 (4) Elisha B:1787 M: Sarah Bright,D:April 6,1846 (5)William B:1789 M: Betsy Tate D:1867 or 1868 (6) Lawson B:June 17,1791 M:Mary Hedges Dec.2,1814 D:Mar.16,1876 (7) John B:Sept.13,1793 M:Sarah Sweeney D:Dec.9,1860 (8) Mary B:April12,1797 M:John McCormac Jan:16,1817 D:Dec.28,1852

I am not family just hoped it might help
