Classification: Query
Surnames: GUNTER HARTSOE
On February 20, 1846 Isaac Hartsoe gave a statement IN Chatham County, North Carolina regarding the Revolutionary War service of Benjamin GUNTER, decd., husband of Elizabeth GUNTER, decd. He stated that he was well acquainted with Benjamin GUNTER decd and Elizabeth his wife decd. and is also well acquainted with their family of children. "I am now seventy two years of age and have known this the said Benjamin and Elizabeth GUNTER to ___(live?) to gether as man and wife from the time that I was not more than fifteen years of age up to the Said Benjamin Gunter's death. I feel no hesitation in saying that their oldest child, viz., Mary is now near seventy years of age & was married in the year seventeen hundred & ninety six - and at that time the said Benjamin and Elizabeth GUNTER had three or four children namely Mary, Benjamin, Elizabeth & Hasten(?)....."
Another witness, James S. Lasater testified that this Benjamin GUNTER was with Capt Joseph Johnson at Gates' defeat.
The only Benjamin and Elizabeth GUNTER I can find info for is Benjamin (1760-1823) who married Elizabeth Long (abt. 1761-1841) with children Mary Polly (1790) Womble; Easter 1796 (Womble); Joseph 1798-1861; Elizabeth (1800)Straughn; and Rebecca (1809) Lambeth.
Can anyone identify this Benjamin GUNTER, wife's maiden name, and children? Anything at all? Does anyone know of a definite connection between these people and Isaac Hartsoe (1775-1859)?
