Hi all. I'm descended from John & Catherine Gunter's son Edward Gunter. John & Catherine are my 5th Great Grandparents. I am curious to know whether anyone has traced Catherine's (Ghe-go-ne-li) heritage and come up with some startling things, as I did. I believe I have traced her line back to greats such as Chief Oconostota and Amatoya Moytoy. Would love to compare notes. Email is Heather.Vanderzee@gmail.com

Raymond Gunter and Lillie Mae Smith

I know someone out there must have information on them. PLEASE HELP! They were married on April 6, 1944 in Aiken, SC. Raymond Gunter is listed as being from Leesville, SC and age 23 at the time. Lillie Mae Smith is listed as being from Batesburg, SC and also 23 at that time. I also have a court document that states that Raymond Gunter died on November 2, 1952. They had quite a few children. I am not sure of all of their names. I know there was an Alton (Ray), Jennie, Debbie, Caroline, and Kenny. I have been told of more but not sure of the names so I will not post them. I know at least some of the children were adopted out after Raymond's death in 1952, but some may have been taken in by other members os the family. I truely would like to trace the bloodline of my biological grandparents.
I am Conrad's great great great great granddaughter! His son Andrew had a daughter Sarah Almarine Gunter (married name Coy), who had a daughter Mabel Adelia Coy (married name MacFadzen), whose middle child was Sarah Ruth Amelia MacFadzen (married name Marshall), whose eldest child is Wendy Joy Marshall (married name Tuttle), whose only child is me, Elizabeth Joy Tuttle (nickname Lieske). I also know that he was a Lieutenant in the British Navy. My great uncle (my grandmother's little brother) has a book about the Gunter family and he photocopied pages for me. I can send you any info you'd like to add for others who might be searching, birthdates, death dates, places of residence, etc. I'm so proud to know my family history; it let's me know where I'm from and how I got here.

Charnal Gunter, 1800 Moore County, North Carolina

I recently came across the census enumeration for a Charnal Gunter in Moore County, North Carolina in 1800. This name leapt off the page at me, since my Macon Gunter had a son named Charnal, and Moore county was a neighboring county to Chatham, where my Macon first appeared.

The census enumeration for 1800 is on page 67 in the Fayetteville township:

Charnal Gunter
1 male under 10 (b. 1791-1800)
1 male 10-15 (b. 1785-1790)
1 male 26-44 (b. 1756-1774)
1 female 16-25 (b. 1775-1784)

My Macon was born between 1794-1800, so it's possible he was the younger son here. Also enumerated in Moore County in 1810 are John Gunter, Sr. and John Gunter, Jr.

Charnal does not appear in the census for 1810, but there is a Malcom Gunter on page 622:

1 male under 10 (b. 1801-1810)
1 male 10-15 (b. 1795-1800)
1 male 26-44 (b. 1766-1784)
1 female under 10 (b. 1801-1810)
1 female 26-44 (b. 1766-1784)
3 slaves

I am wondering if this might be Charnal. (Macon Charnal, Charnal Macon? Just a thought.) John Gunter Jr. is still in Moore County in 1810, but John Sr. is not. There is, however, an Elizabeth Gunter, who might be the widow of John Sr.

The name Charnal is too unusual to be dismissed, and I think this man might have been the father of Macon Gunter who later lived in Jefferson, Blount and Walker counties in Alabama.

Any thoughts?

Gunter Researchers,

I just returned from England where I visited St. Mary's Parish Church in Kintbury. I took about 20 pictures of the church and the Brass Memorial to John & Alice Gunter dated 1524. If you would like the pictures send me your email I'll send you the pictures in several emails. I'm happy to share. It was very cool to see the plaque in person. I tried to find the grave of "Gentleman" John Gunter but the tombstones are too degraded. Alice is buried in nearby Circencester in Gloucestershire but I did not have time to visit that church where a similar plaque hangs. My sister and I tried to make a rubbing of the brass plaque but were asked not to by the local brass cleaning volunteer ladies. John and Alice are my 6g grandparents.

Barbara Branch

I am descended from Jesse Gunter also.
Lineage listed below: (married name in parenthesis)
Jesse Gunter / Missouri Almeda Gunter (Bales) / Margaret Lina Bales (Hill) / Jack A. Hill / Herman Hill

Herman was my grandfather. I am not sure if this helps.
I am trying to find out how much Cherokee the Gunters were...including the Bales.

Any info you have would help

Benjamin & Elizabeth Gunter & children Hasten, Benjamin, Mary & Elizabeth

On February 20, 1846 Isaac Hartsoe gave a statement IN Chatham County, North Carolina regarding the Revolutionary War service of Benjamin GUNTER, decd., husband of Elizabeth Gunter, decd. He stated that he was well acquainted with Benjamin Gunter decd and Elizabeth his wife decd. and is also well acquainted with their family of children. "I am now seventy two years of age and have known this the said Benjamin and Elizabeth Gunter to ___(live?) to gether as man and wife from the time that I was not more than fifteen years of age up to the Said Benjamin Gunter's death. I feel no hesitation in saying that their oldest child, viz., Mary is now near seventy years of age & was married in the year seventeen hundred & ninety six - and at that time the said Benjamin and Elizabeth Gunter had three or four children namely Mary, Benjamin, Elizabeth & Hasten(?)....."

Another witness, James S. Lasater testified that this Benjamin Gunter was with Capt Joseph Johnson at Gates' defeat.

The only Benjamin and Elizabeth Gunter I can find info for is Benjamin (1760-1823) who married Elizabeth Long (abt. 1761-1841) with children Mary Polly (1790) Womble; Easter 1796 (Womble); Joseph 1798-1861; Elizabeth (1800)Straughn; and Rebecca (1809) Lambeth.

Can anyone identify this Benjamin Gunter, wife's maiden name, and children? Anything at all? Does anyone know of a definite connection between these people and Isaac Hartsoe (1775-1859)?

Hello...Just noticed that you are looking for information on my Grandmother. She was laid to rest just south of Raiford, Fl. on Oct. 4th, 1941. My Grandfather, William Hollingsworth pasted away on March 23, 1953. I never met my Grandmother as I was not born till 1947. My sister did meet her but does not remember to much because she was on a couple of years old. I am going to try and attach several photos but if they don't make it to you, please email me at dondobson@hotmail.com. I will forward the photo's from there. I have knowledge of the children and others in that area around Raiford and Lake Butler. I was born if Starke. I would love to have information about Grandmother and her family. Mother, Father and backward from there. Hope this makes it to you quick.
