Rollie Gunter born approx 1875

I'm researching my great grandfather and have come up with 2 Rollie Gunters from around 1875. I'm looking for more information on the differences between Rolla and Rollie aka shown in census records as Rolly and Rollie

One branch takes me to Marion Gunter and Isabelle Boyer as parents, but I'm not convinced these were my great grandfather's parents.

I am certain my GGfather Rollie was married to Viola Mrytle Wasson, but after that I'm trying to find evidence of where he went after they separated. Viola later re-married twice to Henry Hafer and Claude Butcher.

Any help would be appreciated.

Polly was born in 1795 probably of the Cherokee tribe in Georgia. In 1811 and/or 1814 she married Gideon Gunter in Georgia. She died in 1856. Gideon is related to the famous John Gunter who married Katherine Bushyhead of the Paint clan of the Cherokee.

Looking for information on the family of Philip and Catherine Wolf Gunter/Ginter/Guenther. Catherine Wolf was the daughter of Peter Wolf. Peter Wolf owned property in Cumberland County, PA but sold it and moved to Centre County, PA, where he died circa 1805. Catherine Wolf is listed as an heir and daughter of Peter Wolf in records located in Centre County, PA. She is also listed as the wife of Philip Gunter. Not sure where Philip and Catherine were living in August 1806 (date on document). Actually, I haven't been able to find them anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Donetta, We are pretty sure that Lewis' parents are John Gunter and Tempa Manes, Susan Patsy Fields is Tempa's Mother. Lewis and Mary Ann are on the 1850 census in hawkins county tn he was born in TN meigs I believe, also on the census (same) are john gunter and tempa gunter. Listed with all of the children, except lewis who is listed with his own household. Not often do you find records of birth that far back ,i am not to far from where lewis was born. I am planning to make a trip down to check for birth records. I do know the family came from TN and ended up in Arkanas, Searcy Ark. I have contacted the cherokee nation for help. Waiting on researchers to confirm. Hope this helps. I wish my Grandma Elsie was still alive, I know she would help with my search.

Hello gunch157
I am related to the Gunter's.
My ggg-grandmother was Margaret Gunter. She married unknown
Hill....by 1830 on the Census roll as a widow, then she married Henry Banister Jr. then John Truit.
I have been searching on this Gunter line for about 2 years.
Lots to learn, and not enough to find.
My gg-grandfather Richard Henry Hill had several daughters.
I think one of them married ? Henry.
I was told as a young girl that there was an Indian chief in our family. His name was mentioned as Running Fox.
I don't know how true that is, but I can't even find out who Margaret's mother was. We believe her father was James Glass Gunter. James had a brother named John Gunter who married the daugher of Chief bushyhead of the Paint Clan.
His grandfather was John Gunter, b. 1730 Virginia. Do you know this family?
I hope you respond to this posting.
If you get this please contact me at WebbPruning@aol.com.
Thanks.
Dr. Sue Webb

Gunter & Smith Family of Tennessee

I am new to researching the Gunter family, and have only garnered the following information about my partner's family:

John William Gunter was born 11 October 1895 in Bloomington Springs, Putnam Co., TN and died 7 September 1923 in Nashville, TN.

He married Frances Mae Smith 11 October 1922 in Putnam Co., TN.

According to John William Gunter's death certificate, his parents were John Gunter and Jane Petty. A cousin has told me that his mother was a Mary Jane Davis, who had married a Petty first.

I can find nothing about these people. I can't even find them in a census, though I have not looked anywhere but the internet.

Frances Mae Smith married a Staley B Swafford 6 February 1927 in Jackson Co., TN. Her name is recorded as Mai Geenter.

Supposedly, Frances Mae Smith's brother killed John William Gunter over the poor treatment Frances was receiving during their marriage.

I know nothing of Frances Mae Smith's parentage.

Does anyone know enough about this family to help me through this brick wall?

It appears that you may have the GUNTER book by Edwin D. Gunter, Texas, USA. If not, I have that book. I do not think that it fits with my own Gunter line which has German ancestry, however this book may have information that would be valuable to you or others.
I really do not have much free time to search through the book to fill in info for others except fot very specific items.
Have considered selling this book (which you may already have), but also have a fear that one day something may come up that would make me regret letting it go.
If I can assist on any specific item or individual, will give that a try.

Hi Tim,..my name is Paula Gunter and I am trying to find out the ancestry for my husbands family. I have gone back to James Gunter supposibly born Aug. 1862 in England. He married a Rose Williams in 1886 and he and his new bride left for New York. You are very fortunate that you were left with such a wonderful gift of family information, unfortunately, I am running into walls trying to figure out if James came from Madley, Hereford or from Monmouthshire. Would appreciate any past information you could provide.

Crystal: Just trolling for relatives and saw this old message. James B, Gunter was my GGGrandfather, John his son was my GGrandfather. I to have met a brickwall concerning where James and Mary disappeared to after James B. died. I haven't been able to find and census records for either of them after 1860 nor can I find any burial records in any of the cemetaries in Hamilton or White counties. James B. is buried in a little family cemetary just west of Mcleansboro behind the farm house. If this reaches you and you have found any further information, I would be interested if you would pass it on.
Thanks
Jim Gunter

I went on search at the top of the page and typed in John Franklin Gunter. I don't know if it is the right on or not but it sayy that John and Isabell Gunter are buried at Parrotsville, Cocke, Tennessee. John was born in 1856 and died in 1925, Isabell was born Aug.18,1856 in Madison,N.C. they had Tempy Gunter 1884-1923, David Gunter 1885-1965, George Gunter 1888-1929, Muncy J. Gunter 1890-1929, Adolophus Gunter 1894-1929 and Emilea Zora Gunter 1895-1987. This information is from the Gunter Tree. This isn't from my tree. My grandfather was Albert Roy Gunter but I don't know if we are kin to these Gunter or not. Good luck.
