Hey Katie - Been trying to confirm my Gupton line from Cooper & Temperence Warren Gupton for several years now. Slow going but I have gathered info on any other Guptons I could find.i,e,
Abner Gupton, b 1761, Franklin Co, NC. d., Aug 20, 1859, Clarksville, TN. Married first Judith Hunt Aug 30, 1796, 7 children. Married second Martha. Ward Power Sep 14, 1840, Montgomery Co., TN. Abner wounded at Guilford Courthouse March 15, 1781. Can't find a source on this info - best guess is from Hal Gupton - gave me a great deal of help with Gupton family many years ago. Haven't been in contact with him in years. Abner also had a hotly contested will in Clarksville, TN - seems I did see copies of legal wrangling many years after his death.
On a "related" note - I have unconfirmed reports that my/our ancestor Cooper Gupton may have died while visiting Abner in early 1820's. His family was emigrating to Missouri from NC. They arrived in Mo without Cooper? Any info? Good luck from Gene in Georgia

AbnerGupton's actual name was William Abner Gupton. I was taught for a long time That I was a dirrect decendant of his by my grandfather and found out later that I was not. My liniage goes to either a brother or a cousin from the best I could find. I live in Henrietta, TN and my home is about 1/4th of a mile frome his grave site. The cemetary of near 50 graves has only one legibly marked grave and that is his. There are two other Gupton cemetery's in the area and they both have my ancestors in them.
Archives on William Abner Gupton and other Gupton's that settled this area can be found in Clarksville, Montgomery Co. TN. Cheatham Co. Historical and Genioglical scocity has some information on him as well. A lot of archives were lost when the court house burned. I think at two different times.
Backing up, I am of the understanding that William Abner Gupton as well as several other Guptons were in fact Revolutionary war vetrans. I can't find where they came from before settling in America. I also understand that William Abner Gupton was the first established Gupton to migrate to TN after the American Revolution. He settled a large parcle of land in what is now Cheatham and Montgomery Counties. So much in fact, I have been told he had to sign for the state induction process to be complete. Time of settlement was 1806 from N.Carolina.

This was sent to me last nite.Thought I would post on here for those that were interested. This is my great-uncle, sister Lessie Parrish was my grandmother.He was the son of Willie Gray Gupton & Carrie Hamlett Gupton.

Gupton Louisburg-Mr. Will Johnson Gupton Sr.,96,passed away Saturday, Jan.12,2008, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Gupton was preceded in death by his two wives,Pearl and Edna; two brothers, Raymond and Oscar;three sisters, Lizzie Collins, Lessie Parrish, and Lucy Gupton; and a daughter-in-law, Jean Gupton. He is survived by a daughter, Frances Chadwick, and husband Steve of Montgomery, Ala.;two sons, Johnson Gupton,Jr. of Winston-Salem and Donald Gupton and wife Patricia of Drexel; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr.Gupton will be conducted at 1 p.m. today,Jan.15,2008, at Sandy Creek Baptist Church,with burial to follow in Red Bud Baptist Church Cemetery both in Louisburg. THe family received friends from 6 to 8 Monday evening, Jan.14,2008, at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services in Louisburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Bud Baptist Church or Sandy Creek Baptist Church in Louisburg.

Gupton,Sr. his father, Grover Cleveland Gupton,Grover's father-David Antilcus Gupton.David Antilcus father was James Patrick Gupton. James Patrick's father was David S. Gupton. David S. Gupton father was Robert W. Gupton. Robert's father-James Gupton.James Gupton's Father-Stephen Gupton,Stephen Gupton father William Gupton,Jr and last but not least William Jr. father-William Gupton, Sr. You are right.There are a lot of Stephen's and William's. Hello, I was also born in Rocky Mount. My parents divorced when I was young and haven't had any Gupton-family contact in many years. All I know is my father's name is Douglas Gupton (born in late 1950's). If you have any information concerning the Guptons of Rocky Mount I am very interested.

John Daniel Gupton was b. 1863, married to Sarah V. (Sallie) Pardue. Burried Pardue Shores Cemetery, Robert Thomas Gupton b. 1861 is also burried there. Junius Flowers Gupton was only child to reach adulthood. Do you have any info. on these families. Robert Thomas was my grandad.

Edwin Darling Gupton b.abt1893, his son Edwin Darling Jr. b.abt. 1921, another son Marshall Clay b.9-24-1924. Please respond if you have any info. on these men or their families. Edwin Sr. was married to Lucile and he was in WWI 11th calvary, I think. have picture of Edwin Jr. and his godmother and note on back was sargent ? 11th calvary.

I understand through a letter written in 1923 that Nickolas's Dad James H. Gupton went to Scott Co., Missouri in 1875 and also his sister Sarah Ann Batts and her family. Nickolas either went at that time or was already there. Anyone with info on this family

My wife is from this family also and a member of the family did quite a bit of research a few years ago. Here is a paragraph from her notes; "February 20, 1662, Captain William Wesley and Captain John Hull were granted 5798 acres of land in Rappahannock County, Va. for transporting 116 persons from England to Virginia. Each person was allowed fifty acres of land. On that ship was William Gupton. William had three sons. William died somtime prior to Feb 10, 1709.

I did find out something about my Ggrandmother, Carrie Hamlett Gupton. I only found the year she was born, though. Year:1874 in Franklin County, NC. I still trying to find out the month, day and the year she died and where she was buried. And also, I'm trying to find out her husband, Willie Gray Gupton parents. Seems like there is no info on them. I guess my last resort is to get hold of the family bible, if that exists, that maybe my grandmother may have had {Carrie's daughter, Lessie} As soon as I find out more info I will get back in touch with you. William {Willie} Gray Gupton was my g-grandfather. He was born in 1874 and time of death is unknown at this time. He was married to Carrie Hamlet B: 1874 D:? married on November 17,1895. James Jr. and William Clyde are also buried at Mt.Hebron Baptist Church cemetery.

He had 3 sons I am not sure if I am related to William Jr. or Stephen. There are soooooooooo many Williams and Stephens, it is very confusing.
