Paula, hi.

I have a(n) Harriet Gurden in my tree but I don't know too much about her.

I know she had the following but not sure that the birth year of 1834 would add up.

Father: Richard Gurden b1798
Mother: Sarah Marshwell (I think)
Siblings: Sarah b1818, Richard William Markwell b1822 (my line) and James b~1826

They are all from the Newington/Bermondsey area of London.

Kevin

GURDEN

I have been searching high and low for someone else in the world who is somehowrelated to me by the same surname. My grandpa has the same last name as me and has no information
as to what our family tree is. Is there anyone out there who is named GURDEN? I currently live in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada but am not listed under GURDEN.

Hi
Have just read your message regarding Joseph Gurden born Northamptonshire. I have a Joseph Gurden on my family tree born 1840 who had a younger sister Rebecca born 1846, who I beleive may have died around 1858. His parents were Richard and Mary Gurden of Croughton.

Gurden

Hi There,

I posted a message on this board that I simply found through a search engine back in the summer of 2000. I received a couple of replies in regards to my family history but nothing matched up.

In March of 2001 I received an e-mail from a Stuart Gurden in the UK that had the same story as my grandpa did. It turns that I found my grandpa's long-lost brother. Rather, his brother had passed on years previous and it was his son that we made contact with.

Since we discovered that we were related, there has been a visit from our UK relatives to our home here in BC, Canada as well as a trip by my grandparents to the UK to visit them.

If anyone is actually reading this, and is hoping to one day find their long-lost relatives, do not give up hope. I did not think much of the message I left on this ancestry board, but it turns out that just as I was searching the Internet for lost family, he to was casually searching. Thank you to the moderators/owners of this message board for keeping the messages posted up. I could not believe the coincidence of finding someone so far away in a relatively short period of time. Things happen for a reason and I guess this was meant to be.

Hi

Just as some background, I am not sure when people with the gurden surname went across the atlantic, but the name Gurden is thought to have derived from the french name Gourdon when William the conqueror and the norman Knights invaded and took the English throne in 1066.

It is also thought to be akin to

Gordon and Gorden which developed into scottish Highland names although this could have come directly from the French names without the English influence.

hope it helps
