Hi,
The Gurdon family came to Sokolovac, Croatia from Borzavar,
Hungary about 1870. Some family members then moved to Koncanica and Korenicani about 1890. Are these villages known to you. They are located in the vicinity of Daruvar.

Check www.slavonianancestors.com for some genealogy in this area of Croatia.

Sincerely,
Joseph Esterreicher
jesterreicher@earthlink.net

Seeking roots of our Gurdon surname...

It was me who sometime last year wrote the last article about the Gurdon families from Croatia and Denmark. I see there so far havent been any responses from people searching the same answers. Currently I can be reached at: 2600eu@gmail.com.
It would be nice talking to someone else with the Gurdon surname.

The oldest track I so far could make using the internet is:

John GURDON (Bef 8 NOV 1407 - Aft 1451/1452)

-found on URL:
http://www.pa.uky.edu/~shapere/dkbingham/d0000/g0000098.html...

I was born 1978 in Croatia and some years ago have migrated here to Scandinavia / Denmark. I know there are some Gurdon families in Croatia, and they belive that Gurdon surname spread partly from Hungary (some lady) to Croatia, but I don't have the exact information. Does anyone know something about the Gurdon surname in connection with Croatia?

Re: GURDON Surname

I was passing by this website and saw your request. I married into the GURDON family of Jamaica, West Indies. From what I have learned, they are descendants from England (mostly Essex and Wales). My husbands family who carries the last name is mostly Indian (of Hindu descent) mixed with white and black. There is a large family in St. Mary, Jamaica.

This probably led nowhere. But I wanted you to know someone else was searching for the GURDON name.

I am looking for information on the origins and meaning of this unusual surname. Please don't contact me to see if we are related. This is a remote relation of a distant branch and a person who married into the family. Any help would be appreciated.
