All of my Gusman ancestors originated in Spain 1700 then in 1755 Nova Scotia. They were exiled to France after the Expulsion. b 1785 they arrived in Louisiana.
Unfortunately they only brought 2 of their 8 children with them to Louisiana.
Do you have access to any census records in Virginia? They may give you a good lead.

Am researching any "Guseman" "Gusman" "Gousman" or "Guzman" who settled in Louisiana in the 1700 or 1800 in the Parishes of St. Bernard and St. Tammany. They had Spanish Land Grants and were neighbors of the "Veillon" families in St. Bernard establishment. The "Juan Gusman" in this case was not from the Canary Islands, he was from Andalusia, Spain. Thanks....any help is appreciated. Marsha

GUSEMAN, GORDON, WELLS

I am researching the descendants of John and Mary Helen (Duke) GORDON. In my database, I have data which I am trying ton confirm and notice that there is some dispute about the GUSEMAN family members and their ancestry. If you can add or correct any of the following information, please let me know.

Elizabeth GORDON (1761-1834), daughter of John GORDON, married Christopher GUSEMAN in July 1777 in Frederick Co MD.
I am wondering who Christopher's father was.

My data shows that they had 2 children:
1) Godfrey GUSEMAN (b: 1779 in MD) - married Margaret Carroll

2) Elizabeth GUSEMAN (b:1781) - married James WELLS in 1799 in Monogalia, W VA. and they lived in Greene Co, PA.
I have found contradictory information about the children of James and Elizabeth (in Leckey and other family trees). I am trying to sort out the fate of their daughter Sarah, born in 1812 in PA.
In some cases, their daughter is listed as Sarah WELLS, married to Isaiah STEELE.
In other cases, their daughter is listed as SARAH ELIZABETH WELLS, married to Jesse WORLEY.
I don't live in PA and haven't found any records to confirm the correct information.

I am also searching for information about Priscilla WELLS, daughter of James and Elizabeth WELLS. I do not know birth or death dates or a spouse.

If you can help with any of these questions, I would appreciate it.
Michael. It might be more confusing -- but then maybe it's not. I think I might see a solution, but I want to go back through all my sources and materials before I respond. I have to be away for a few days, but when I get back, I will tend to this.

I have a long rather complicated family letter which I could send to you about Abraham & Godfrey Guseman. --- but it would probably be best to send it directly rather than clutter up the message board. What email address should I use?

If nothing else, you will see that this was difficult to sort out in 1908 when the letter was written by Colonel John W. Guseman.

You might find this interesting:

There is a bio of Godfrey Guseman Murdock (1837-1899) at www.minerd.com/bio-murdock.

The biography begins:
"Godfrey Guseman Murdock was born 1837 in Preston Co, WV, the son of John S. and Rebecca (Miner) Murdock. He apparently was the namesake of an uncle, and was called 'one of (the) best known citizens' of Wheeling, Ohio County, WV, 'whose name is legion' among friends."

I particularly noted that this Godfrey was named for an uncle, which implies that John Murdock might be the son of Susannah (Guseman) and Thomas Murdock. And that Susannah might have had a brother named Godfrey.

Meanwhile, I will get back to trying to sort through Abraham, Joseph, Christopher and Godfrey.........

Hello All,
I have Joseph Gusman(Goosman Gossman Guseman) with daughter Susannah marrying Kerns. Joseph's son Godfrey married Margaret Carrol, dau. of Anthony Rose Hall Carroll. They had Amajiah who married Mary Mcshane,a dau. of Corneilus Margaret Donaldson McShane. Margaret was the dau. of James Donaldson, who was a son of Charles. Amajiah Mary had Maryann James Donaldson Gusman.
When their parents died "Somewhere in one of the western state", James came to Texas and Married Alzira Insall(Duke). Maryann went back to Morgantown and married. Does this ring any bells? Please let me hear from. Thanks. James Donaldson Gusman is my Gr-grand
father.
In my previous query I had Susannah m. Kerns. This is wrong.
She married Thomas Murdock. Marriage bond in WVA archive shows father as Joseph Goosman. It was her brother
Godfrey's dau who m. James Kern. In Godfrey's will he mentions sister Susannah Murdock. As she is dau of Joseph Goosman, this makes Godfrey Joseph's son. In my notes I have Eliz. widow of Christopher, relinquishes her right to Christopher's property TO HIS FATHER, GODFREY.

My mother was Oliver and Jeanette's third daughter, Gloria Marie. Sarah m. Dr. E.W.Walker.I have photos of all but Belle. I also have the genealogy for all of James Donaldson and Alzira's ancestors, with some documents and history. I wish I could've personally known Sarah.
Christopher is not Godfrey Guseman's father. Joseph is.

I have noticed that someone is mistakenly reporting that Christopher and Eliz. as parents of Godfrey, and using me as their source. Let me set this straight. I would never make such a statement without proof. In Monogalia Marriage Bonds
is shown Susannah, daughter of Joseph Goosman marries Thomas Murdock. Godfrey in his will mentions sister Susannah Murdock(making him son of Joseph). There is another notation in my notes for 1805, where Eliz., widow of Christopher, relinquishes her right to his property TO HIS
FATHER GODFREY GUSEMAN.
Michael Shannon

Tim,
I don't know how much help I can be,I'm still a bit confused on this line. I know that Godfrey's father is Joseph. Lately I'm told it is Christopher Joseph. I,m also told that Christopher Joseph's father and son are named Godfrey. I've asked where I can find this, but have had no reply.
If you can give me and idea how your line descends perhaps
I can check "The Gusman Family in America" and see whay I can find.
Mike

Re: GUSEMAN, GORDON, WELLS

Ruth,
On one of my trips I stopped in Charlotte to look in the archives, there I found a marriage bond for Susannah, daughter of Joseph Guseman(Goosman). She was marrying Thomas Murdock. I also found the will of my Gr-Gr-Gr-Grandfather Godfrey Guseman(who married Margaret Carroll)
in which he names his sister Susannah Murdock. So Joseph would then also be THIS Godfrey's father. In further research a Christopher who married Elizabeth Gordon seems to have been a son of a Godfrey, but it didn't seem like he could've been my Godfrey due to dates and ages. Somwhere I recall
someone had e-mailed me that Joseph was Joseph Christopher Guseman, and there was more than one of each.
Doe any of thismake any sense, or is it just more confusion?
Would like to hear what you think. It show Susannah, dau. of Joseph Goosman marrying Thomas Murdock. I also have a copy of Godfrey Guseman's will that has Amaziah Guseman(a Gr-Gr
Grandfather of mine) and "my sister, Susannah Murdock" in it.
I was told by someone that Joseph and Christopher were the
same, i.e. that is Christopher Joseph or Joseph Christopher.
I don't know any more than this.
Michael. I am back puzzling over this Guseman matter, and I might see one potential solution. But I am not sure if it addresses your problem. I gather that you think that Godfrey and Susannah may be the children of Joseph Guseman. I am wondering who Joseph was - could you tell me anything about him - birth date, parents, etc. That might help. It would also help to know birth and or death dates for Susannah if you have them. That might help me figure out if I'm on the right track.

Hi, This is specifically for Jane Motz whose
message I have read on the message board, but I would be happy to hear from anyone working on this family.
I have an old soft back book written by Jacob Matlick and S.R. Guseman. The book was written about 1913 to 1915. It has much of the Guseman and other family genealogy beginning with Abraham (1753), his brother, John, and sister, Sophia. I was not aware of Abraham 1721, but was happy to get that information from you.
If I can help by sharing any information from this book please contact me at ew425@yahoo.com

Jane, you seem to have a lot of information on the Guseman history.
I'm hoping you will be willing to share with me. I have traced back
to my 2nd great grandfather, Peter Wesley Guseman, who, I believe,
is a brother to Abraham; and both are sons of Isaac Gusemand and Mary Ann
Strauser. I have not yet been able to locate any other siblings or
the birth places of Isaac or Mary Ann Strauser.

Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated and I
will be glad to share my line, if you would like to have it.

I look forward to hearing from you at my e-mail address:
gcamlin@bellatlantic.net JOYCE

ABRAHAM PETER W. GUSEMAN

I am a descendent of Peter Wesley Guseman, as follows:
Peter Wesley b. 09/28/1850 Preston Co, WV d. 05/06/1924 Greene Co, PA
Jesse Guseman b. 1873; d. 12/29/1920, Fayette Co, PA
Albert Ray Guseman b. 10/08/1895, Fayette Co, PA; d. 08/21/1966, Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Helen Marilyn Guseman Tressler; b. 01/17/1920 Westover, WV; d. 12/16/1992, Fayette Co, PA
Marilyn Joyce Tressler Camlin (that's me); b. 06/21/1952, Fayette Co, PA

It's exciting to hear from someone related to Peter Wesley.
I discovered from his death certificate that his father's name
is Isaac and mother, Mary Ann Strauser. But the death certificate
doesn't give any other info about his parents' places of birth;
and I haven't had the time to investigate further. I'm still working
on it, though.

If there is anything else I can help with, please let me know through
my e-mail address. I would appreciate hearing from you and
sharing information.
