My great-great grand father, MICHAEL GUSMAN was married to MARIA SCHULER and they had 9 children: Adolpho Jose, Honorio, Joao, Miguel, Josefina, Olimpia, Maria, Elisa and Amelia GUSMAN.
Most of my ancestors came from Brazilian States such as Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo, Espirito Santo and Rio de Janeiro.
For more information, please visit: http://www.familiagusman.myheritage.com

I do know that my grandfather changed the spelling of his name to Gusman, because he did not want people to think he was of a different ethic group.

My great grandmother is Zoe Theotist Garig Carson (m. Rt. Rev. Bishop Harry Roberts Carson - Episcopal), a daughter of Zoe Louise Augustine Gusman Garig and George W. Garig. I would like to have her remains brought from a niche in Maryland to the family cemetary at Baton Rouge, LA. Her only son, Admiral Harry Roberts Carson, USN was a significant hero of WWII (see HRCarson.com). Her only granddaughter was my mother, Mary Alice Carson Buckmaster (m. Alfred Clarence Buckmaster). Zoe was a signifcant woman as she is most likely the first woman to ever represent herself in Louisiana Court as she could not get adequate assistance from the male justice system. She was left desitude in LA by her husband who transfered to Panama leaving his wife and son behind. The mess made BR headlines for over a year resulting in her being institutionalized for a number of years. I personally knew and was very fond of my great grandmother prior to her death in 1960 in Virginia.

Alice, My Gusman line is out of Monongalia Co.,W.Va. As far as known, the immigrants were supposed to be from Germany. They came over on the St.Andrew from Rotterdam
by way of Clewes,England. We always thought we were Dutch..I guess because they shipped out of Rotterdam. The
name is older than this bunch though, St. Dominic de Guseman was Spanish, and founded the Order of Preachers, so the name goes way back.

Re: Descendants of Amaziah Gusman

Good Evening Linda,
My Great Grandfather was Amaziah's son, and your gr-gr-grandmother's brother. As I understand it, Amaziah and his second wife Verlinda Lamb "died in a fire in one of the western states in 1852". I was at the state archives many years ago and found a marriage bond for Susannah Gusman
which said she was the daughter of Joseph Goosman and was
marrying Thomas Murdock. This was in 1802. There is also one for Godfrey(Gottfried) Gusman in 1800, when he marries
Margaret Carroll. Later Godfrey's will shows Susannah Murdock as his sister(making him Joseph's son) Margaret his
wife, and Amaziah his son. Godfrey's son Christopher preceded him as shown when Christoper's wife Eliz. relinquested her claim to Christopher's property to his father,
Godfrey. I also have marriage bond records on Amaziah when
he marries Mary McShane dau. of Cornelius and Margaret Donaldson McShane and when he marries Verlinda, dau. of Leonard Lamb. I believe our Guseman's must somehow connect to the line of Abraham Guseman, but haven't been able to make the connection. I have records for Service of
Godfrey,Isaac, and a Joseph Guseman in the War of 1812. I
also have for James Donaldson, father of Margaret Donaldson
McShane. Photos, I have for James Donaldson Guseman and
his family(my Grandfather's sisters and brother) and for Cornelius, and Margaret McShane, his brother Olive Silvanus &
two of dau. of Cornelius and Margaret. One is Ellen who married Thomas Jarrett, the other ? I also have photos of James And Verlinda Donaldson's tombstones and a list of all the Donaldsons in the Donaldson cemetery. That's about it I guess. What do you have? Contact me at pdd101940@aol.com Mike

The first Gusman in Brasil was Mr. Adolf, from Germany and his wife ( I don't remember her first name now ) came from Austria. Somebody told that our surname is Jude-german ( do you understand ? my english is horrible. excuse me).
Congratulations.

Prejedes Marie GusmanTinajero Castillo b. 1910, TX

I am looking for any information on my grandmother, Prejedes Maria "Mary" Gusman. She was b. July 21,1910 in Texas, was raised in Monterrey by her grandparents, married someone with the last name of Tinajero, had 4 children (Guadelupe, Esperanza, Maria, and Juan), divorced(?), and remarried Pedro Castillo and had 4 more children (Pedro, Roberto, Juan (a 2nd one), and Manuel). They immigrated to St. Louis, MO in/about 1942 with all of their children except for the first Juan. Her daughter had a child, Timothy Christopher Tinajero (Sr.) (b. 3/29/57), out of wedlock and later married John Carl Lanning, Sr. and had 5 more children. I knoe that Perdo used to work on the railroads. Any information on anyone listed here, especially Prejedes and Pedro and her unknown first husband, please e-mail me!

Angela Tinajero-Hall

John L. Gusman; Montgomery Co., PA

I am trying to locate information on John L. Gusman, son of Lewis B. and Annie Gusman of Montgomery County, PA. He was born around 1858 and married (wiife's name unknown but desired!) in the early 1890's. A daughter was born in 1892 and the wife died around 1895. The child was raised by John's brother but from that point on John is not heard from again. Did he die also? Move away and start over? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mission Texas, Eastren Washington

My grandfather was from Mission Texas and moved to Eastren Washington State in the mid 1950's. He had 6 children with my grandmother the eldest died in California in the early 1950's. The rest of the children still remain in Eastren Washington. We have never had any communication with any of my grandfather's family. My grandfather passed in the early 1980's his mother, sister and a niece came to the funeral. This was the first and last time we ever heard from anyone. We were told that he had a son prior to his marriage to my grandmother which would have been in the late 1940's. We know that perhaps one of his sister's may live in Rosemead, CA and a niece in Alberquerque, New Mexico. If anyone knows anything, please let us know. We are not sure why my grandfather's family has never made an attempt to contact anyone. My mother, uncle's and aunt have no other family but them.
