Paralytic Stroke Cause of Death
Mrs. Susan Baker Died At Amelia and Buried At Cherry Fork
Cherry Fork, Ohio – Mrs. Susan Baker, wife of Rev. William Baker, died at her home at Amelia last Monday evening at 4:00 o’clock. Mrs. Baker suffered a stroke of paralysis over nine years ago from which she never recovered her former health. About one year ago she had another slight stroke which still left her more feeble and on Sunday night she complained of feeling bad and grew worse, passing away on Monday evening.
Mrs. Baker was a daughter of William C. and Mollie Shreffler Gustin and was born near Louisville on November 2, 1850, being over seventy-five years of age. Her parents moved to Cherry Fork when she was small and she lived here until her marriage to Rev. Baker forty-seven years ago. Five children were born to them, two dying in infancy. A daughter, Mrs. Sadie Gaston, died about ten years ago. Mrs. Sudie Lovett, of Denver, Colo., and Maxie at home survive. Besides the husband, daughter and son, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Jennie Cooper, of Dayton. Two sisters, Mrs. Kate Patton and Mrs. Ella Morrison and two brothers, Thomas and Maxie Gustin of this place, all preceded her in death.
Her funeral was preached at her home in Amelia Thursday morning by Rev. Burdsall of Batavia, assisted by Rev. Huntington, pastor of the M. E. church at Amelia. The body was brought to this place for burial, arriving here about 3:30 p.m. Rev. L. A. Griffith, of West Union, held a short service at the cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Will Wolfe and Mrs. Jennie Cooper, of Dayton, Rev. Baker and son Maxie of Amelia, Mrs. Faye Taylor, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Miss Maxine Gaston all were her for the burial.
The members of the Sunday School class of which she was a member, also accompanied her body here.
Thomas and Ed. Gustin of Belfast, were also among those who were here for the burial. Rev. Baker was a pastor of the M. E. church at Manchester forty years ago and was pastor of the M. E. church at this place years ago.
