This is likely to be the grave of Fred Wayland Gustine, son of Julian Norman Gustine and Cynthia Edwina of Leon County Texas. My records show a wife, Dorothy Estes, m 1941 in Arlingtion Tx.

Born Richmond, Canada 1828. Grandmpther of Col. Albert Rhoades attached to Gen. Pershing 1917-19 in France. While there, a woman came to HQ in a town (unknown) to show him her family bible (Gustine?) which listed his birth, marriage, and the births of his first two children. Second child, Flora Minnie was born 2 Oct 1907 is my mother.

This is actually a mistranscription of the marriage record, listing her as MOORE instead of MOON. MOON is the correct name. (Alma H MOON). Thanks for the death information!

I'm in the process of making an addendum to Gustine compendium. I have a database started starting from Augustine Jean (John Gustin down through 7 generations, now up to as many as 12-15 generations.)

If you like to be included in the database, send your partial lineage back to the common ancestor of Gustin and it will be added to the ever growing database.

Ther only rules I like to set are:
1) Must have at least a date or place, (if unknown okay).
2) Must have at least 2 source notes, (to keep it simple like Census or family bible for example). No long narratives until you have to define who is who.

Most of the entries will have at least a page source from the compendium, and some censuses if it has been tracked.

After that I will try to post to rootsweb or see if anyone would like a book format to help them out for further sources.

He retired from PPG Industries after 25 years of service and worked with Faith Manufacturing for the past 14 years. Also a long time member of Little York Baptist Church. He is survived by wife of 48 years, Bonnie; daughter, Sandy Baker & husband Doug; son, Larry Gustine & wife Jessie; seven grandchildren, Sherry Herzog & husband Kenny, Kenneth Baker, Seth, Jeanette, Keith, Austen, and Wesley Gustine; one great granddaughter, Sarah Herzog; three sisters & several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 3 :30 p.m. Friday, December 11, 1998 at Brookside Funeral Chapel. Checking minutes of the 1924 Reese Family Reunion in Buffalo, New York I found among the attendees, Mrs. Ada Gustine and Miss Helen Gustine of Ann Arbor [Michigan]. I have some information about this family but am trying to complete work on the descendants of Jacob and Salome Reese. Any help would be appreciated.

I am searching for the death record/obituary of Reba or Rebecca Gustine, daughter of Lemuel and Amanda Pepper Gustine. She had a brother named Clay Robert Gustine, and her maternal Grandmother, Sophia Duvall Gustine. She probably died after 1901. Both of her parents would have already been deceased. It is possible she was in Jackson or Clay County, MO at the time. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My great-grandmother, Fannie Fitch, had an autograph book that she had people sign during her travels between 1883 and 1890. One is signed Minnie Gustine. Clyde GUSTINE b. 1887 Excelsior Springs, MO. d. 1918 WWI

Clyde GUSTINE was born in Excelsior Springs, (Missouri), May 15, 1887, and died somewhere in France, May 27, 1918. He grew to young manhood in the Excelsior Springs community. He attended the public schools of Excelsior Springs and was a member of the Baptist Sunday-school of that town.

He was one of the first Clay County boys to make the supreme sacrifice. He enlisted at Fort Madison, Iowa, in June, just before the first registration day of June 5, 1917. He was a member of Company K, 168th Infantry, 42d Division--The Rainbow Division.

Mrs. GUSTINE received a letter from Clyde after the first big battle in which the Americans turned back the German hordes, stating that he had come through without a scratch. In this letter, or in one closely following, while on picket duty, Clyde wrote that it would soon be time to go into the thick of another battle. He said he did not know what might happen to him this time. It was in this second battle that he was gassed and lost his life.

In a brief letter to Mrs. GUSTINE, Chaplain W.E. Robb stated that Clyde died as a result of gas wounds on May 27, 1918, and was buried at Pexonne, grave No. 26.

Have just come across a GUSTINE connection while researching my MOON line:

Thomas H. GUSTINE married Alma H. MOON on 16 August 1857 in Fulton County, Illinois.

They appear on the 1860 Federal Census, Waterford Township, Fulton County, Illinois:
Thomas Gustine, 25, M, Farmer, 50, Ohio
Alma, 22, f, Penn
Mary E, 1, f, ILL

apparently Thomas died while serving in the Civil War. There is a Pension file. The widow's application date appears to be 10 Oct 1863. A second "guardian" application was filed 17 Aug 1875 for John GUSTINE. I have not located the family in 1870, but this would indicate that Thomas and Alma had a second child, John H., born between 1860-1864 (since he did not appear on the 1860 census and would have to be born no later than 9 months after his father's death)

A MOON family record in Alma's brother's pension file states that Alma H. GUSTINE died 18 February 1872. No place is indicated.

Would like to find out what happened to the children, Mary and John and any descendants.
