Karin... Willoughby Simon Guth is my GGG Grandfather as well. I'm a descendent of Emma Jane's sister Angelina M. Guth. I have some more info on the rest of the siblings and my line, but am especially interested in tying in Willoughby's parents, Peter Guth and Esther Hummel, to another line of Guths I've found. Would love to compare notes if you're still out there...

Thanks!

There is an original copy at the Lehigh County Historical Society of an Orphan's Court document, dated 4 Sept. 1829 - "Petition of Henry Hisky, one of the sons in law of John Helfrich." Four of the seven children married Guth's!The children listed are...

George - Stated in the document as being his only son (He married Salome Guth)
Catharine - deceased - wife of Daniel Guth
Elizabeth - wife of John Guth
Eve - wife of Henry Hisky
Magdalena - wife of Jacob Guth
Regina (unmarried at the time the document was written)
Lydia - wife of Peter Roth

The grandchildren listed were children of John Helfrich's daughter Catharine and her husband Daniel Guth. They are as follows...

Michael
Anna
Elizabeth
Daniel
Magdalena
Lydia
Catharine

I do not have a copy of the entire document. It was quite large. But it references the division of property after John Helfrich's death.

David and Johanne Heinrich (John Henry) remained in Va. Margaretha the 3rd child married Daniel Shull and migrated to Ohio. I often wondered if Samuel may have also moved to Ohio. When all the farmland was bought in Pa @ 3.00 an acre, they moved to Va @ $1.00 an acre, and on westward to procure cheaper farmland. I have contacted a descendant of Henry and a couple other people who came down the David line. States included are VA, WVA, OK, TX, NC, Next email I will write directly to your email address if O.K. with you. P.S. Goggle "Rockingham county VA historical society "website and you will find an icon "Frieden Reform Church". Here you will find church birth records for David, John Henry and Margaretha.

Everyone I've talked to that has seen the Frienden Church records noted that the witnesses to the christining of David, the given names of the witnesses only were given minus surnames. I had assumed it was Detemer and others thought it was Shuttermax,Shoulderman/Shutterman. I guess your documentation is the proof we need. It seems the Guth/Shull/Detemer/Shutterman/Shuttermax/Shaver/Shaffer were a tight group and safety in numbers was essential in those days. In the history I have by Elias Good he stated Peter Good (who I think was the very first to come from PA) grist mill at Goods Mill was often times attacked by Indiians in the mid 1700s. I have a marriage bond signed by Samuel with an "X".

Also most any ancient/rare/out of print book available at www.abebooks.com (for a price!).
Looking for any information regarding the parents and/or siblings of Theobald Guth II aka David Good II, who resided somewhere in Lancaster County in the 1740's-1760's. David, born about 1735, emigrated with his family from the Palatinate area of Germany to the Port of Philadelphia aboard the "Glasgow" on 09 Sep 1738.
Hi Dave- i'm going to try and call you in a few minutes. I live in Ohio and am in Florida at my son's. I'm driving back to OH thru VA but the hard mail will be in Ohio. Tell Jane @ cableone that Detamore is the name on his War of 1812 pension file. I've been to Rockingham once before and know that before Rockingham county was formed it was all Augusta Co. My problem right now is that my regular email is not letting me write and send a message, but I can receive them. There is a book in the Rockingham library called "In the shadows of the Massanutten" written by William A Good. The book is out of print Published in 1991. It is a "Good" family history for Rockingham and Augusta. There is a feeling that the Goods left VA for PA in the late 1700's because of this Indian massacre. Returned in several years later. So Sam may have been born in Pa or Va and not known the difference. I'm going to track down this William a Good and see if I can get the book- I'll buy a dozen copies if I can. I work with Gary Good, my husband's first cousin and Terry Good , a 3rd G Grandson of Samuel. There is also another gentleman Gary keeps in touch with a descendent thru GW Good. I have a old typed or handwritten genealogy That one of Samuel's grandson did- it came from California out of his bible. I can't send you anything until i get home to my own wireless hook up.

NG

Hi Dave- I knew about Margaret marrying Schull. There were a total of 6 brothers: Samuel, Benjamin Franklin Good, William, and John; 3 sisters Mary, Lydia and Elizabeth Ann in addition to my George Washington Good. I have a copy of Samuel's War of 1812 pension file. The lived in Darke, then Greene then Allen County. Right now I'm in Florida I should be home in about a week unless I get really lucky in Rockingham. I can e- mail you stuff then. Samuel Good married Mary Elizabeth Detamore ( and about 100 other spelling variations) around 1808 1807 1809. His second wife was Arabella Stevenson , a widow- she was the first white woman in Allen county ,Ohio. They had no children. He moved to Ohio because of free land (grants) for his service in the 1812 War. I have found many of his childrens graves not his or Mary Elizabeth (sometimes refer to as Eliza).
I have found that Freidens Lutheran Church page before- that's how I knew there was a David and Henry I have a good- no pun intended- buddy Terry Good who descends from this family also ( William) Got to run.
Hi David- Interestingly enough Samuel had 2 sons who we've never been able to connect to- David is one of them. His second son Henry is the other. Where are you from? I'm from around the Cleveland Oh area. There is more family in michigan, indiana, california and tons in ohio. It's funny we should connect now- I'm on my way later this week to Rockingham VA to dig around. Did you know there is a Good's Mill in rockingham? My husband is Tom Good, son of Aroy, Frank, son of Aroy Curtis, son of George Washington, son of Samuel. talk to you later. Nancy

I contacted this individual for more info on her family line. But am posting this here so others may see and maybe have more infor mation.

In my tree I have a Lucy Guth who is a second cousin 3times removed, her husband is listed as Paul Pittman but iI have no other info on him.

So at present it looks like she and I are 3 cousins 2 times removed.

I hope to learn more from her and others.

Mike
