Leroy E. Gutierrez September 28, 1947 - February 4, 2007 Leroy E. Gutierrez went with Jesus on Sunday morning at the young age of 59. He is now in a body, free from illness after a 16 month battle with cancer. Leroy was born to Frank and Delfina Gutierrez on September 28, 1947 in Chama, New Mexico where he grew up. He graduated from Escalante High School. Leroy then joined the United States Army and served from 1967-69 during the Vietnam War. He married the love of his life, Priscilla Cruz in April 1969. They had their first child, a son, while stationed at Ft. Mead, Maryland in 1970. They moved to Grand Junction, CO, in November of 1970 and had their second child, a daughter, in 1976. Leroy later graduated from Mesa State College. He worked as a mechanic for several years prior to being employed with Public Service until his retirement after 27 years of service. Leroy loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, hunting, woodworking and stockcar racing in his younger years. He enjoyed attending Country Jam and Juco every year. Leroy was a wonderful and devoted husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend, who cherished spending time with his family, especially his two loving granddaughters. He had a great sense of humor and was known as a joker to everyone who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Priscilla, son, James (Jennifer) Gutierrez of Grand Junction, daughter, Michelle (Josh) Foster of Grand Junction, three brothers; Paul (Carol) of Syracuse, UT., Horace (Lupe) and Tommy (Ramona) both of Chama, NM., four sisters; Martha (Rudy) Delgado of Kirtland, NM., Margaret (Eddie) Quintana of Chama, NM., Jordy (Zeke) Navejas of Pueblo, CO., and Isabelle (Kelley) Wheaton of Garden City, KS., special niece, Kathy (Jeff) Martinez of Albuquerque, NM. and his two beautiful granddaughter, Taylor Foster and Sadie Gutierrez. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold Gutierrez, a niece Janice Gutierrez, and a nephew, David Quintana. A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A memorial mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at 3:00 p.m. at Veteran's Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado with military honors provided by the Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
