I was elated when this came up and I have been making some matches. My husband was Emil Wilkinson, his Mother, Irene Lake and her Mother, Agnes Marie Guymon.
Hello, my name is Chris Guymon, my grandpa is John Guymon. I also would like to know any information you have on any of the Guymon family. We have been doing research of our own for a while now, but there is only so much you can do on your own. I live on the boarder of Indiana and Illinois. My grandpa live in edgar county in Illinois, where most of the rest live that i know of. You can reach me at militarydude9993@aol.com.
My name is Marvin Guymon. Lafayette Guymon is my great grandfather, and James is the brother of my grandfather Leland Guymon, born 1897. Anne Margrethe was referred to as "Nettie".
I myself was born in La Plata County. Odd to stumble on this, since I've never visited this site before and was just looking for name etymology.

Well this is a point where different records reflect different things. My understanding is that Walter's father was born 19 Jun 1866 and that he was the son of Thomas J. Guymon and Sarah Jane Carter. I'm descended from Thomas J. Guymon and his first wife Frances H. Killgrove; Sarah Jane Carter was Thomas's third wife. I have a copy of the handwritten pages of the Guymon family bible which shows the following under births:

George H. Guymon born June 19th, 1866

The information you give on him having a brother Ed Guymon and sister Lizzie Elms would fit. The only living siblings in 1940 were Edward Guymon who died in 1943 and Elizabeth Guymon who died in 1956. Elizabeth's first husband was W. T. Yarbro and her second husband was Benjamin F. Elms.

I'm sure this is the same source for his name that Irene Bauder used in the book. She shows his name as George Henry Guymon but that he used Henry as his given name.

Irene states in her book that the 13 children listed come from a group sheet thought to have been filled out by the eldest child Oscie Pearl Guymon. Irene states "The names of the children, Vige and Roxie may be reversed. The names were written in the margin with spaces 7 and 9 left blank as if the writer might be uncertain as where they should be placed."

I think it is likely that there were only 12 children and perhaps two of the children named were actually the same person.

I'd be very interested in seeing any photographs that you might have, I might be able to identify some of them. I'm not sure if it would be easy for you to scan them and email them or send me a CD. If you have a few minutes you might want to look at the unidentified photos I have on my website at http://www.mindspring.com/~jsruss/

Walter was my great grandfather. Recently I found the time to start going through his papers and pictures as well as his sister Lillie's papers and pictures left to my grandmother when they passed away. In these papers was Walter's birth certificate and the request for it in Walter's handwriting. It lists his father as Henry Lee Guymon Sr. in you post you staed it was george Henry. Also in the papers were copies and a few originals of some obituaries including that of Henry Lee Guymon Sr. and Geraldine Hatfield Guymon. In Henry's obit it states he was married twice. First to Geraldine and they had twelve children seven of whom were living when he died. Four sons Walter, Benjamin, Henry, and Russell and three daughters Mrs. rw Harper, Miss Lillie Guymon, and Mrs, HC Burk. He had one brother a Ed Guymon and one sister Mrs. Lizzie Elmn who were also alive at his death. He married Sallie Shettles in Decmeber of 1025 after Geraldine's death and they had no children of their own. I don't know if one of the children is a repeat or if perhaps Edward was actually a brother. I have numerous pictures many unlabeled of this family but I also have a few pictures of Henry Lee Guymon Sr. I hope this helps.

Please let me know what misinformation I may have posted in my earlier post so I can correct it. My information comes primarily from Irene Bauder's book. She does list 13 children, are two of these perhaps the same person?

Oscie Pearl, b. 14 Jun 1888
Viola, died young
Benjamin Harrison, b. 22 Jul 1892
Henry Lee, b. 29 Oct 1894
Charles E., died young
Edward W., b. 10 Dec 1896
Vige, died young
Lillie B., b. 13 Aug 1900
Roxie Lee, died young
Walter Sylvester, b. 16 Jan 1903
Mary E., b. 31 Jan 1906
Lora, b. 2 May 1908
Russell Elliott, b. 2 Jun 1911

Well I don't know if you are still out there. I am related to you through one of Henry's brothers Walter Sylvester Guymon. There were 12 children in all born to Henry Lee Guymon Sr. and Geraldine Hatfield. Geraldine died in 1923 and Henry remarried Sally Shettles. I have a lot mor einformation. Isaw the post in response to your first post and realized that there was some misinformation. But that the gentalman who responded did have it correct that there was an older brother named Benjamin Harrison Guymon. Please contact me if you are still on this service. I have recently connected with Russel Guymon's line and it would be great to fill in more blank's. I also have family photos as well including pictures of Hnery Lee Guymon Sr. as well as his obituary and Geraldine's abituary. Their sister Lillie Guymon lived with my gradparents until she died.

Proving that Elizabeth Curry is Thomas Guymon mother is easy. He mentioned in his own history written in his own hand. And also mentioned that he stayed with Malcolm Curry his mother's uncle and was raised by such. The mystery about William is because one of Thomas's son name was also William. The problem is that we cannot prove what country they came from. Since the father (William) died in route.

I have been doing a remodel of my home and don't have my records in order right now. But I would be glad to send a copy when I get settled. This record is not available without a temple recommend. As soon as I and my husband Richard finish this remodel project within the next two months we will doing family history full-time again.
I have been searching for any info about the above subject,I would truly appreciate anything you have on these two, they are my relatives way back, it seems William dies at sea and Elizabeth was carrying Isaiah at the time, what I don't understand is why if she was borned in North Carolina was she over sea's??or is it that they came from Ireland (what town I have no idea about), and she dies at N.C.?Anything would be great, as I have William's Dad as a Ghost with no name but, I have his Dad listed as Rollande from France??Please help, Thanks Connie

Henry Lee Guymon, Jr.

My (adopted) dad, Henry Lee Guymon, was born 29 Oct 1894 to Henry Lee and Geraldine (sp) (Hatfield) Guymon, Luxora, AR. I believe he was one of 9 children, only 3 boys, Henry, Walter and Russell. Walter and Russell lived in MS most of their adult lives. I think most of the sister's stayed around AR but I don't know their married names. I would like to learn more about the family history and where my grandparents are buried.

Greetings,
I was reading your post and noticed that you have information on a family I have been searching for. I have the obituary of Charlie Gumon's wife Henrietta (Ellis) Guymon. According to it Charlie and she had eight children with 2 dying in infancy. I am trying to locate the family of Lyle Guymon.

Be glad to share any information with you.

larry@thunderbolt.net

Daniel, my grandfather, passed away recently and he and I were trying to figure out as much as we could, but he couldn't remember much. Do you also have information about Maud? Do you also know where I can get a copy of Irene Bauder's book?
Thanks again

Ann,

James Marion Guymon was born 25 Sep 1847 in Randolph County, IL. He was the son of Thomas J. Guymon and his first wife Frances Killgrove. I'm descended from James's sister Mary E. Guymon.

Margaret Ann Carter was born 13 Oct 1849 in Jackson County, IL. She was the daughter of William H. Carter and Mary A. Loy. I'm descended from Mary Loy's brother John A. Loy.

So as you can see I'm related to Mary Frances through both of her parents. I show that Mary Frances Guymon was born 10 Oct 1869 in Randolph County, IL and married Alfred L. Cade on 13 Jun 1889 in Osceola, Mississippi County, AR. Alfred Cade was born in Aug 1858 in Illinois. I show they had at least five children, but I don't have much on those children. I'd love to compare notes.
Hi Sandy,

Per Irene Bauder's book Frank Guymon (7 Aug 1897-8 Aug 1924) was the son of Thomas J. Guymon Jr. and Maud E. Hatfield. Frank married Effie Hughes on 29 Jan 1917 in Mississippi County, AR. Irene gives the children as Daniel Guymon and Robbie J. Guymon. I assume Robbie J. is the Juanita you mentioned. I show Robbie J. married Raymond F. Jones. If this is your line then we share a common ancestor in Thomas J. Guymon Sr., who was the grandfather of your Frank. I have additional details on the family, just email or post here.

Regarding Maude HATFIELD, she was the daughter of A. J. and Susan HATFIELD. Her sister Geraldine Lockhart HATFIELD (1872-1923) married Thomas's older brother (George) Henry GUYMON. You might want to compare notes with Patty in the thread just below this one. Now the info on Maude says she was born in Luxora, AR; however her sister Geraldine is listed as being born in Starksville, Oktibbeha County, MS. The 1880 Census lists Geraldine as Jerry Lu and born in MS, but Maude is listed as born in AR. The family apparently moved from Oktibbeha County, MS to Luxora County, AR between 1872 and 1876. The book also includes a photo of Maude HATFIELD GUYMON.
Thomas Guymon was my 3rd Great Grandfather, but he married Sarah Gordon. He was born in NC March 10, 1787, went to Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois and then on to Utah. He died in Springville, UT in 1855. His son Noah Thomas Guymon married Mary Dickerson Dudley. An exciting story is told about their daughter Mary Jane Guymon and how the Indians invaded their little cabin about 1850 when their father (a widow) was away. They would have stolen much of their meager belongings, but the Indian Chief saved Mary's life and that of her two younger sisters. (Is this the Thomas Guymon of which you speak?)
