I don't know if it used to be a longer name but my birth mother married a man by the name of Roman Gvozd and he is supposed to be Russian. I have brothers and sisters that have carried on that name of Gvozd in Cleveland Ohio. If you'd like you can get back with me and maybe I could try to help you finding something out with that.

Has anyone ever heard of the name GVOZD? We believe it was trunicated from a much longer name. Relatives were from Altoonia PA. My grandfather supposedly came from Russia but little else is know about him.

Gvozdich family

My grandfather Mile Gvozdich was born in Veljun, Croatia in 1886, he was the son of Ninko(born 1861?) and Petra Gvozdich. Ninko was the son of Simo Gipalo and Smija Gvozdich who were born about 1840-- I believe in Croatia but I dont know for sure. I would like to talk more with you to see if we are related.

Gvozdich family

Ron,
I dont know a lot about my family-- my grandparents did not speak much english and I dont have many sources here. My mom and I went to the LDS archives and found a Russian prince who my grandmother might have been related to on her mothers side-- not the Gvozdich side. I can tell you that my mom and I visited Croatia in 1983 and found the village where my grandfather was from-- there were a lot of Gvozdichs there- and I guess not all of them were related to us. There are living relatives of ours there. Unfortunately, at that point in my life I was not interested in the family tree-- and I didnt ask a lot of questions. I know that my grandfather was one of many children. We may be related. He also had cousins living in PA. There are people named Gvozdich in PA-- I have contacted them-- but they dont seem interested in family. He also had cousins named Gipalo and Bonda is PA. I can forward what I found to you. Please email me directly at kimcog@cts.com I would like to see if we are related. Thanks for your interest
Kim

Gvozdich, Gvozdev

Kim:
Voinich, Austria, is the same as Vojnic, Croatia. (Learned that after I made the posting.) I have very little information on my son-in-laws' family. Joe Gvozdev and Annie Zorich/Zoric were the parents of John, Sophia, and Mike Gvozdich, b. 25 Oct 1896, d. Aug 1972, Fredericktown, PA, m. 5 Jan 1921, Uniontown, Julia Bartkowick/Bartowick PA, b. 1906, Depew, N.Y., d. 9 Aug 1999, Vestaburg, PA. They were the parents of Sophie, b. 1922, d. at youth; Helen Hague, b. 1923; Dorothy O'Keef, b. 1925; Joey, b. 1926, d. at youth; Margie, b. 1928, d. 18 mos.; Kitty Grooms, b. 1930; Gin Zites, b. 1936; and Lee, b. 1942. I have a few family stories, but that is it.
I believe that the Gvozdev name is connected with Russian nobility and may also be connected with the princes of Rostov in the ancient Ruric line.
I wish I had more to share. I have been communicating with the family in PA, but have not gotten much to go on.
I look forward to hear more from you.
Ron Bronemann
