Alfred GWATKIN was one of several children of Thomas GWATKIN and Ann SAUNDERS. In 1894 he married Elizabeth Ann MEREDITH at Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales. She was the daughter of Henry Pitt MEREDITH and his third wife Ann EVANS. One half-brother of Elizabeth, William Thomas MEREDITH married Elizabeth KEEFFE and lived nearby at times, at other times in Glamorganshire, in his work with the railroad.
