Hello, I am looking for a John Gwynne (not positive it was John)who was the father of Ann (Anie) Gwynne born 22 Dec 1818 probably in Pennsylvania, but not sure. She married Jacob Metz b. 8 Aug 1813 in St. Clair, Pennsylvania. They were married abt. 1836. They are both buried in Marysville, Marion, Iowa.

I am searching for descendants of Thomas Gwynne (1782-1825)and wife Jane Murdoch born Cumberland, MD and died Urbana, OH.

I saw a notation at the Urbana, OH library (Genealogy room) from someone searching the Gwynne family of Urbana..but wasn't able to connect.

I am not closely related...but remain highly interested in Gwynne family. I am a descendant of the Barclay family of Bedford, PA - Hester Barclay - the first female Swedenborgian in America in 1784 - and grew up in W. PA. I am related in several ways - the Swedenborgian church, Isabella Murdoch (sister of Jane) who married Josiah Espy Barclay of Bedford, etc. etc.

I have an obit from the New York Times edition of 7/7/1928 that states that William Gwynne, aged 88 years (b.~1840), was a Civil War veteran of the 5th NY Infantry.

It also states that he was born in Little Falls, NY and his wife, Mary E. Parker had predeceased him.

Can anyone tell me where this man is interred?

Thank you for writing ! I believe that the John Gwynn you're speaking of--the first settler in Cape North-- is my great,great,great,great,great grandfather. Actually, I KNOW that he is--I assume that we are talking about the same John Gwynn--it sure sounds like it. I would LOVE to get more info. My grandmother (Gwynn) was born in Aspy Bay, NS (next to Cape North, NS), and we still have her house there. (It's actually directly across from the island where John Gwynn was buried). I am going up there this summer; the museum in Cape North has some ancestral information that they started putting together a few years ago. I'm going to check it out while I am there. As I said, thank you! And if you have any more information, I would love! to have it.

Also researching the Gwynn/Gwinn family from Aspy Bay, Cape North, Victoria, Nova Scotia. My great grandfather Hugh Gwinn was born there his father was James J. Gwinn wife Sarah Morrison, I believe they are linked to the John Gwynn of whom you wrote, recently found the book Cape Breton and the Jackson Kith and Kin, in it are many Gwinn references to family group, I have found some gaps and a few mistakes, so I am trying to find where James J. hello, just found some info on my great-great grandfather. his name was austin bert gwin... was with the 88th company of Ohio volunteers in the civil war. I'm just starting my quest searching my ancestors.My grandfather told story of 4 brothers who left wales, coming to America. I am getting in touch with my grandfather's brother, who is living, age 76. Uncle Tommy says he has geneology of our leg of Gwin's dating back to Plymouth Rock. I am anxious to get this information. By 1854 they were in Lorrain Co. Ohio. then buying land on the outskirts of Wellington Oh. By 1860 the sons had moved away settling in Michigan, Missouri, and Montana. Do you think there is a connection. Have very full details in book form if it is the same family

I have Edwin O. Gwynn married to Mary E. Pinder - children Thomas 1845, Christiana 1855, Edwin O. 1857 and William 1859. There is some confusion as to first name Edwin or Edward. My ggrandfather Charles Edward gwynn(1866) is listed on the 1900 Key West census as cigar factory owner, this is the same Gwynn, Martin & Strauss Co. you mention. This was obviously a family business until around 1915. It's not clear yet how our lines connect. My ggreatgrandfather Charles Alex Gwynn ws reported on the 1900 census as born in Key West (more confusion) Ffamily lore has Charles A. Gwynn's mother as Elizabeth___ and from Spanish Wells, Eleuthera,Bahamas. This is where I lose the trail. With our obvious connecttion I am also looking for William Gwynn and Rebecca Oliver's origins. My line follows from Charles E. Gwynn to my grandfather Eric Gwynn. The first Edwin O. Gwynn 1820 is reported to have been an auctioneer. Key West cemetery records has Edwin Oliver Gwynn born Oct.9, 1820, died Feb.16, 1885. Wife Mary E. Pinder born Dec.23, 1829, died July 24, 1894. Son Thomas Pearson born Nassau, 1845, died Aug. 5, 1869. This is all I have now. I'll keep you updated. Regards, Bob

There was a Thomas Gwynne that settled in Deer Creek Township of Madison County Ohio in early 1800. You can find some information from the Ohio History web site. He had brothers John E., William, Eli W. David and Horatio. David Gwynne. I believe that brother David Gwynne was the father of Abraham Gwynne who was the father of Alice Claypool Gwynne Vanerbilt.

Hello from N Ireland,
My husband's mother was a Gwynne. Currently helping a little with his uncle's family research.
Have info., mostly on 4, as yet, unlinked families from Rostrevor, Co Down. Some from other parts of Ireland.
Also have Hugh James - but one source, not sure how reliable, seems to give a different place of birth.
Willing to share findings and hopefully update my info at same time.

James lived with his parents in Northern Arkansas
My grandmother Bessie Irene Guinn Drew was born in 1915 other Guinns - Alice, Mabel, Dessie (twin to Bessie, Marion (male) Any other info would be appreciated. The James Guinn family lived in California for a tiome before returning to Arkansas.

My wife's 3rd great grandfather was Clement Gwynne as mentioned on my first message. Phyl Williams kindly sent me in December 2006 a large amount of information that she has on members of the Gwynne family in her 'tree'. I'm not sure if it's the same information held by Judith.
There's just one problem. We have a copy of Clement Gwynne's marriage certificate that states that he was "full age" when he married Hannah Cross in 1838. This would make his age 21, and so born in 1817. I wonder if your Gwynne family could resolve this apparent mystery?
I look forward to hearing your opinion or sharing any information you may choose with me.

the Gwynne's left England and arrived in Adelaide 1836-9 and settled in adelaide.

Clement Gwynne was Christened 29th September 1806 I believe he was christened at Maesyronnen Congregational Church which is Glasbury.
I have the marriage certificate of Clement and Hannah which I will have to'dig out' from my files. Births Mary September Qt 1839 Thomas September Qt. 1840 Ann June Qt. 1842 All at Leek
Death's Thomas December Qt. 1844 Hannah March Qt. 1849. All at Leek
Clement then marries a second time a Sarah Johnson and on 1851 Census Ann is with Clement and his second wife. They have many children who become very well educated and do well for themselves.

My maternal G Grandmother was a Mary nee Gwynne, born Ca 1853, who married Owen O'Neill. Both are recorded as being born in 'Ireland' and both died in Glamorgan, S Wales. Owen in 1891. I do not have any additional information on them - dead end. Hope this might be of some use.
