I just read this letter from you and am amazed at some of the information. Emanuel Haab is my gggrandfather. Pearl Haab is my ggrandmother and Arbelle Baker Read is my grandmother. I would LOVE any information that you can send me about the Haabs. I can find nothing. Do you know when and where he came over?
I think that we spoke by email several years ago. If there is information that I can pass on about the little that I know from this part of the line, I would be glad to share with you.
Thank you very much for posting this information.
finding Haabs

Sally:

A couple of thoughts (probably wild-goose chases.)

The name Sophia Haab is vaguely familiar. (I'm a Haab on my mother's side.) Her branch of the family is from Washtenaw county, Michigan (Ann Arbor Manchester) if that helps. (Would Sophia have had a father/grandfather named Johan? A brother/uncle named Albert?)

Also, the medical school at Creighton University in Nebraska did a very involved study of the Haab family 20+ years ago. It traced Haabs all the way back to the 1500s and Switzerland. (They were searching, I think successfully, for a genetic link to colon cancer. They came in the summer of '75 or '76 seeking blood skin samples from as many of us as they could round up.)(I was away working at a summer camp and unavailable.) Perhaps that's a place to look.
My mother had a copy of their research; she passed away last year, and I'm not sure if/when I could find that copy. If I do I'll let you know.)

Dave
