Obit of Charles E. Haase 1942

From the Chatsworth Plaindealer
Chatsworth,Livingston,Illinois

CHARLES E. HAASE
JANUARY 15, 1942

Charles E. Haase, 68, died at his home, 3 1/2 miles northeast of Chatsworth, Saturday (Jan.10) forenoon about 9 o'clock.
The body was taken to Piper City and the funeral services held from the Houk funeral home Monday afternoon, January 12 at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. G.A. Reinhardt, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Chatsworth cemetery where his parents and other relatives are buried.
Charles E. Haase, son of Henry and Christina Haase, was born on October 21, 1873, at the family homestead northwest of Piper City. He was one of a family of seven children. In this community he was reared and grew to manhood and for a number of years engaged in business in Piper City and this vicinity.
He was twice married, his first wife, Olga Wienand of Chatsworth preceded him in death.
In the year 1900 he united in marriage to Mable Meisenhelder and to this union three children were born, all of whom survive him: Mrs. Inza Thompson, of Piper City; Meritte, of Paxton, and Louise Forster, of Bedford, Indiana. There also remain two brothers, William of Piper City and Fred, of Jefferson, Iowa.
For the past seven years he has lived with his brother, William, on the homestead and has been in failing health for the past year or two but confined to his bed for only the last week.
For a number of years the family lived at Bushnell and Moline, Illinois, returning to Piper City in 1921.
In boyhood he was confirmed in the Lutheran church to to which his family belonged.
He was a great lover of flowers and fruits and the country home acquired an enviable reputation for beauty. He also prided himself on his culinary ability and was awarded several prizes in competition for canned fruit and pies he had prepared.
He and his brother, who kept bachelor quarters kept their home and constantly worked to improve it and the soil which made them their living. He spent much time in reading up on soil improvement and gave away flower seeds in quantities for several years. He also kept close tab on weather conditions and preserved temperature and other readings. As his strength failed he was compelled to give up some of his cherished ambitions and for several months before the end, seldom left the farm.

I am trying to locate my 3rd great grandparents in the area of what was known as Silesia, Germany -- now in Poland. The city was either Breslau or Heinrichau.

His name was ERNST HAASE. Wife unknown. Their son, my 2nd great-grandfather was HEINRICH WILHELM ANTON HAASE, born about 1830. He married JOHANNE CHRISTIANE ROSALIE HENNECKE on 28 Sep 1854 in the Sophia Church in Berlin and afterwards they emigrated to America settling in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Their children were:

1. Rosalie Haase (born abt 1857)
2. Henry William Anthony Haase, Jr., MD (born 1858 NJ)
3. Ida Rosalie Haase (born 1863 NJ)

Dr. H.W.A. Haase is my maternal great-grandfather and had a medical practice in Manhattan as well as Jersey City, NJ.
He married WILHELMINA HAMBERGER in 1887 in Jersey City.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am especially interested in knowing how to locate records in what once was East Germany.

Thank you!
Joan Brown Derry
MDMama2841@aol.com
John V. Haase b. 1846 Holland d. 1925 Staten Island, NY

Hi there,

I am looking for information regarding John V. Haase. He is my 2nd great grandfather. I know much about his life up until his death in 1925 in a Farm Community in Staten Island. I recently found out where he was buried with his wife and one daughter.

I have found a few census records showing John and his wife Dora and his children. The only one I cant find it the 1880 census.

What I am unable to find is his naturalization records. I know he was naturalized, but no luck finding them. Plus I am unable to find his marriage certificate to Dora. I know he was married in 1876, but do records in NYC go back that far? I know they were Lutheran. Would I have to search out church records?

John V. and Dora Haase death certificates both come up with very limited info. Seems as if there was a language barrier when they were filled out because personal info is left blank.

I have located all descendants of John V. and Dora and no one has info on either.

Anyone help point me in the right direction?

Hi Karen! I realize this is a super-old post but I hope you might pop back in and check on it... maybe? I too am searching for some Haase ancestry, and I suspect that the Alfred mentioned in your post might be an Alfred John Haase in my own family tree. Do you mind sharing some of your sources with me if you happen to have them around still? Thanks in advance! :)

Hello
I enjoyed your posts about the Haase family. I am Wayne Haase great great grandson of Laborious through Raymond. Frank, Martin. A large percentage of us descendants still reside in the Milwaukee area. The Town of Lake was annexed by the city of Milwaukee and I believe the farm Laborious owned on College Ave is now part of Gereral Billy Mitchel Airport. The sister mentioned in one of your posts is Sister Bernice, an aunt, descended through Lawrence, Martin. In the 1600s I have found a family that has their surname spelled 3 different ways Hase, Hasen and Haase in one generation. I don't think this is unusual. My point is don't be to concerned about spelling, my guess is the literacy rate in the farming communities in Germany was low. Probably not much higher in America as they transitioned to a new language.
I have some potential info on a Casper Friedrich Haase b.1799 or Casper William Haase b.1772 from Wildberg approx. 25 miles from Wipperfeld, Germany(thats if I have the correct town) if your interested. I can't prove a relationship yet.
I'd be interested in which of the offspring of Laborious is of interest to you in that I have not filled in all of my cousins in the new world
Wayne Haase

1920 Haase census record...spelling issue?

I'm having difficulty in locating a 1920 census record for the family of Herman Haase. Sometime around 1910 he and his family (wife Julia and children) moved to Wyoming and 1930 back to New York. I just can't locate a record for the 1920's to fill in the gap. I suspect a spelling issue, but I am stumped.

Amy assistance is appreciated.

TIA,

Amy

Thank you very much for the information. I'm going to try and get to the cemetry and see what I can find. I'm pretty sure that Dina is burried there. I'll let you know what I find out.
I did not do the work on the Haase Family. A family Nun did it and most everything in it refers to the church and church records.

Thank you for the reply on the Haase family name. Many co-incidences, however I am unable to link up with my family tree, but perhaps there is a link that Ihave not come across yet, my lot of Haase's came from a very small village called "Taaken" nearest big city ~ Bremen, my grandfather was a farmer on a working farm, my mother worked on this farm before meeting my father after the war, she came to England, married my father & had 5 children including myself.
