I descend from Jan Haba, born Chvalovice, Bohemia, Dec. 30, 1844. His line goes back to Vaclava Haby aka Wenzel Haba in the middle 1700's. Jan married Antonia Dvorak Feb.2, 1871, came to USA, NE w/wife and son James(Vaclav), 1874. First to Omaha, then to Rescue,NE where he farmed. Retired to Morse Bluff in 1912, died there Sept 21, 1930. Wife died Apr 13, 1931. Together they had endured the NE blizzards. Jan is written up in the book HISTORY OF CZECHS IN NEBRASKA wheree he took his oxen into their sod home to excape the storm. Other children besides James, were Joseph Haba, Mary Kaplan, all of Ne, and Barbara Machan, my grandmother of WI.
Joseph Josephine Haba mentioned by CJ Marzullo may be a nephew of Jan. Also a possible relative as they'd been visited by my Habas in NE,was Joseph Haba of 3206 S 43rd St, Omaha. He died July 22, 1953. Had wife Kathryn, sons George Burney of Ne 4 daughters. Also lists brother Frank of Perry OK. Frank wife Mary supposedly changed name to HABY. This Frank Joseph of Omaha had sister Barbara (Mrs. Frank Pospisal) of Roy, MT.. Source on Jan cas CZ archives in Prague family knowledge. Source for other Haba was cousin Helen Kaplan of NE newspaper clippings.
