Here is the information you requested.

Stephen Benjamin Franklin Haburn was a son of Andrew F. Haburn and Manasha Ann Jones.

Andrew F. Haburn was a son of Benjamin Franklin Haburn and Barbary Ann Gose.

For the record, I am not related to the Jones Family that intermarried with the Haburns of Turkey Cove, VA.
The cemetery is in the Mew Community. I could take you there in person (I have been there twice), but I have a hard time describing how to get there, but here goes.

There is a 4 lane highway that runs on the west side of Castlewood. There is a road that runs west from it in an area I believe is called Banners Corner (Mew may be part of the name of the road). Take the road west. After a couple of miles +/- there will be a stream on the right and a road that runs along the west side of it. I can't remember if the road is paved or not, but I believe it is. Drive back a mile or two and there will be drive on the left just before the road appears to cross over the stream. I don't think the road really does, I think there is a sinkhole and the stream disappears. The drive on the left will take you to a trailer house. The cemetery is to the left of the trailer house. There are two cemeteries near the house. The one you want is the one on the right. If it helps. Ask any of the locals where the old Tanner Gose place is. You pass it on the road that runs on the west side of the stream. The old George Gose house was still standing when I was there, but it was abandoned. The trailer house is to the left of the old house. The locals may know the old George Gose house as the old Fanny Gose house. She was the last one to live there I believe.

The people in the trailer house were very nice. As a rule it is always best to get permission before trespassing.

David I read your messages and I am a bit confused however my great grandfather was Stephen Benjamin Franklin Haburn and His son Charles was my Grandfather all those names are ingrained in me , so I would suppose whomever Stephen Benjamin Franklins, father was is my great great grandfather! My grandfather had about 17 Children I believe 12 by one wife 5 by another. Birdie Kirk was my grandmother, my father ERSKINE L. HABURNE was born about 1903. He has a sister still living, Molly Turner (age 90) and a brother HARVEY L. HABURNE aged 87. I want to put the family history together for my family back at least to my great great grandfather. Here is an interesting Item, my father and six of his brothers were in World War two at the same time, two or more of them were POW's and one was in the Bataan Death march and was written about some. Also there were articles written in the Virginia ( Pennington Gap area ) newspapers about it. The family reunion is at the Park in Pennington Gap Virginia and is open to everybody with , Haburne blood, near close, far, and, unknown. All the elders of the family are leaving us and we want to piece as much together as we can. I am sure you would be very Welcome to attend and bring yer kin!!!!!!! If you have my email send me address and I'll mail you more information. I am slow using this board with the message threads. Later Buster.....glad we're really getting some progress here!

I have read your message and that is exactly who I am looking for information on. That is my grandfather and great grandfather. I have been to that graveyard many times and recently will also be going back to Pennington, Gap Virginia in June 2003. The HABURN, HABERN, HABURNE) families have instituted a standing family reunion the 3rd Saturday in June every year at the Park in Pennington Gap! Trying to include everybody. Can you send me any more information. Thanks Buster

I enjoyed your narrative. I descend from George Gose and Elizabeth Jessee through their daughter Dicy Gose (my 4th great grandmother). Elizabeth Jessee was George's first wife, not his second. Elizabeth Cowan was his second wfie. I have pictures of the tombstones of George and Elizabeth (Cowan) Gose. They were buried in the family cemetery on the farm George inherited from his father Stephen Gose. I have Thomas H. Haburn born about 1846 based on the 1850 US Census where he is living with his grandfather George Gose.

I have information on some the other children of Benjamin Franklin and Barbary Ann Gose. Let me know if you are interested in exchanging information.

David:

Last year, after finding your posted efforts on the Habern family I called you and we briefly discussed your work, which is the best I have found on our history. I wonder if you have made any additional progress on this topic. You are so far ahead of any other Habern I want to encourage you to continue. If you ever get to the Houston or Huntsville area I hope you will get in touch. My law office is listed in the phone books in both cities.

Keep up the good work,

Bill Habern

Response to Habern Narrative by David Clifton

I am Wm. Terrell (Bill) Habern, the grandson of Grover Habern (who, according to your apparently well done history was the first son of Andrew Cowan Habern). I knew Charlie Hendriz and Dollie. I think I recall Ruth. My grandfather once told me he thought the family had connections to two brothers who were both doctors that settled in Nashville, Tenn. I have been told when I was representing a client in federal court in Nashville that there either was or is a Habern building in that city. Do you have any idea to the truth of such information?

Dorothy,
Nice to hear from you. Yes, I work with Gary. He does a great job with our Feed Mill. My mother, Wanda Lou (Martin) Clifton, always talked a lot about her aunt Dollie Cocanaugher, and Vera and others. Mother passed away two weeks ago after being ill for a couple of years.

The narrative I posted is about all I have on our common ancestors...I can't get back past the original Andrew. One of these days when I retire, maybe I can do a little deeper research. As it is, I just have to peck around as time permits.
regards,
David Clifton

In any case, I'd like to know more about the reunion in June you talk about. Could you give me more info? Also, what is your lineage..ie which one of BF & Barbary's kids are you descended from.

regards,
David Clifton.....grandson of Lou (Habern) Martin, ggrandson of Andrew Habern, gggrandson of Benjamin Franklin Habern, jr, ggggrandson of Benjamin Franklin & Barbary Habern.

Mike,
Thanks for the reply. I've visited the graves of Benj. F. & Barbary Habern on the side of a hilll at the base of Winding Staircase Rd in Turkey Cove several years ago. The cows had pretty well knocked everything over and broken one of the grave stones. I tried to get in touch with the person who owned the land to see if I could put a fence around the graves, but I could never get a reply. I'd love to hear anything you have on them or what happened to their other children....of course I know what happened to Benj F. jr and his son Andrew, but I've never done much research on the others. Anything you have would be appreciated.
Thanks again,
David Clifton
