I am interested in finding out more information regarded the four infant deaths that occured in the Vienneau family between the years 1939- 1948.
In 1939, Wilfred Vienneau served in WWII.
Before the end of WWII, he was ordered to return to his wife to help 'straighten her out.' There are rumors regarding her character, involving the death of 4 babies and her promiscuity. I would like to confirm or diconfirm this information.
Mr. & Mrs. Vienneau have 6 children who survived.
Mae (Mary Rita) vienneau (Jimmo) lived with Mr. Wilfred Vienneau on John st, Loggieville

Rob,
Nellie started life as Margaret Ellen Johnston, b Jan 6, 1868 in Loggieville, New Brunswick. She was the daughter of Roseanna Johnston (my great grandmother), father unknown and had three siblings, Joseph, Hampford and Edward.
About 1880 Roseanna married Laurence Hilarion Hachey,
who had three children by a previous marriage. Together they
had seven more children. Roseanna's children took on the Hachey name but I don't think there was a formal adoption.
I'm most interested in exchanging what information I have for what you have on Nellie.

Don Dunbar
Toronto

I am searching for my Grandfather's sisters, Opal Mandrena Hachey and Viola Hachey. I would like to know anything about them and their children as well as where and when they died and where they were laid to rest.

Both were children of Joseph Henry Hachey and Ethel (Etta) Cantwell. They were born in either Campbellton or Saint John NB. I was told they both moved there in their youths.

1. Opal Mandrena Hachey, born Dec 23, 1904 married Albert Hamilton Duncan on June 24, 1924. She had two girls, I think their names were Shirley and Marge. Albert Duncan was a sailor who went off to sea one day and never returned (possibly died at sea). At that time Opal was with child. Another girl who she named Opal and placed in an orphanage in St. John's. I was told she worked at this orphanage for a time. Afterward she remarried a man named Agnus Barton. She had more children called Judy and Kenny... but I'm not sure if Duncan or Barton fathered them or if Duncan only had the two girls mentioned above. I was told she was a fun lady.

2. Viola Hachey married a man named either Neilson, Neilsen, Nelson, or Nelsen. She moved to the Montreal Quebec area. Apparently near an Indian reserve. So possibly Chateauguay or Oka, Qc.

Sarah Elisabeth Hachey b. abt 1873 m. William Franklin Torrey

Hi Nancy,

I didn't find an easy source of the transcriptions but I did discover that Montreal, Quebec (where I live) has a copy of the microfilm as well as some books that have some transcriptions... which I photocopied. It might take a little while, but perhaps I can look up some info for you at the library, if you like. I was actually planning on going there later this week. What information are you looking for?

Am I to understand that you are from the Boston area? I am searching for my an obituary for Sarah Elisabeth Hachey who was born in Bathurst, NB around 1873 and moved to the USA around 1901-1905. I found her on the 1930 census living in Boston, MA with her husband William Franklin Torrey. I believe she passed away between 1930 and 1950... as she was not mentioned in my great grandfather's obiturary(her brother) but two other siblings of his living in MA were. I wish I knew more... but I don't right now.

Hoping you can help me with this brick wall...

Feel free to email me about what lookups you'd like me to do by the way.

thanks.

J

Hi James,

It appears we are 4th cousins. Maybe it's a long shot but we may be able to help each other, and it's always fun to find a cousin no matter how distant. Here's my line starting with our common ancestor.

Joseph Haché m. Marie Madeleine Doucet
Michel Haché m. Marie Gaudin
Louis Haché m. Constance Cormier
Joseph Louis Haché m. Salomé Landry
Mary Theresa Hachey m. John Joseph White
John James White m. my mother

If you find an easy source of the church records I'd love to know about it.

Cousin Nancy

I live in Quebec... and won't be in New Brunswick for the foreseeable future.... unfortunately.

However, I did contact the Holy Family in Bathurst for this particular record and found that the marriage for James Hache indicates he married Lucy Curtiss and his parents were Joseph Hache and Elisabeth Peit.

I was hoping someone may have had a file which contained some transcriptions of the Holy Family data which could be emailed to me.

Thanks,

James

I don't live near Bathurst and am wondering if there is a way to get it mailed to me. I am interested in Baptisms/Birth and Marriage church records or government records. Anyway, about the Y some of my Aunts have their last name spelt Hache and some Hachey. My Father expalins this as the ones with the Y were born in English hospitals, no Y they were born in French Catholic hospitals. I thought that was interesting. Makes it harder for though.
April

I was told earlier that my family added a "Y" at the end of our last name. He was born in P.E.I. He would have been born around 1882,but I'm just starting this research so if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Elizabeth's husband was Octave Hachey. I don't know much about her husband Octave's side of the family. Elizabeth was of the Bulger family which is my family tree. I do know however that Octave's family was also from New Brunswick, Canada. More than likely around Caraquet, Shippagan or Rogersville. Octave's family moved from Canada to Massachusetts. However, a lot of Canadian families settled in Maine as well as Massachusetts when coming to the states. I also have seen the name Hachey spelled as Hache in Canada. Good luck with your search.

I haven't had much luck in searching the Hachey/Terrio (Theriault) family lines and Laura doesn't remember much. My aunt remembers a family "story" that Louis' wife ran him over in a car but didn't hurt him. Like I said a "story", don't know if it's true.
There's no such thing as a "spreadsheet that extracts information from a microfilm".

But, anyone, with a lot of time on their hands and a good dose of patience, can transcribe information from a microfilm into a spreadsheet or a database. Even you!

You previously mentioned living in Montreal. The microfilms you are looking for are available at the LDS Family Center as well as the Salle Gagnon/Montreal Municipal Library. The latter has BMS repertoires as well.

I would strongly suggest a visit to the Société généalogique Canadienne-Française in Montreal (corner of Sherbrooke and Davidson); they also have the LDS microfilms as well as Drouin's, BMS repertoires, and a large collection of family dictionaries and history. And as far as I know, they have a few good books on the Haché/Hachey/Hachez families. Plus plenty of volunteers who are willing and able to help.

They also publish "les Mémoires", a quarterly publication distributed to all their members, where you might want to post some enquiries regarding the missing links in your family lines. Members out there are usually very friendly and always willing to share and exchange information.

As for the spelling of the surname Haché, the variants are due to spelling errors mostly. Prior to 1950, there were a lot of Canadians who did not know how to read and write, for various reasons. They had to rely on whomever recorded the vital records, therefore, the spelling of their names varied accordingly. The priests were never known for the quality of their spelling, in any language... just have a look at the microfilms of the parish registers.

Good luck in your research!
