From the links provided below, this is what information I have found for the possible descendants of John Hackney and Jane Vail.
A marriage of John Hackney to Jane Vail does not show up under the H surname page, for New Castle, DE.. Arron Hackney does, and several think he may have been John's father from what I have read.
Someone gave another John Hackney being married to a Rebecca Laughlin as our Johns parents, but Rebecca was born in 1753, and John Hackney who married Jane Vail was born in 1760. I don't think a seven year old child could bare children, and the father was supposed to be born in 1744? He would have been sixteen and his bride seven.
There is some information about Arron on the internet, or about his liniage that I do not think is correct, nor complete. Since the below was taken from Microfiche copies of records, or that is what the website in mention refers to, I would place more trust in this. A lady by the name of Barb Ziegenmeyer, transcribed these wedding dates from the film.
The following may shed some light on the confusion of John and Jane Hackney.

NEW CASTLE COUNTY, DELAWARE MARRIAGES 1645-1899
FHL Film Number 0006414 to 0006422
From DELAWARE Records: Thomas Vail married Mary Smith 15 Apr 1809
From DELAWARE Records: Aaron Hackney married Lydy Rees 6 Oct 1764
These are the only Hackney and Vail marriages listed. Also, this does not conclude that Arron was John's father, nor does this conclude that the listed Thomas Vail was Jane's Father, just the contrary. I don't think this is Janes father unless this was a second marriage, as Jane Vail was born in 1786, twenty-three years beforehand. Also, Arron Hackney was getting married four years after John Hackney's birth.
If anyone researches this further, I would appreciate it if someone could contact me, as I am a descendant of John and Jane Hackney. They were my G-G-G-G Grandparents.
Sincerely,
Willie S. Matney
