my father was Bertie of Hednesford. I think you will find that William Hackwood was chief designer for Josiah Wedgwood and produced Jasper wear for him before forming his separate company. Wedgwood's sister Emma married Charles Darwin. It was always said to me that we were related to Wedgwood but I dont know how.
Alan Hackwood

Hackwood name

I have just started to research the Hackwood name. My maiden name is Hackwood, my father is Dennis born 1925 in Stoke -on-Trent, and had 8 brothers and sisters, his father was Albert Edwin who died in 1930 aged 47 years and was married to Alice Sourbutts born in Bury Lancs on 13th Aug in 1881 (I think). She died March 1962. My great grandfather could be Frank or possibly William and possibly christened 27.2.1884. His wife was Charlotte. On viewing an old message someone was asking about a link with Wedgewood. My information is a bit sketchy but a possible ancestor called George? was josiah Wedgewood's right hand man for design in porcelain. I would be grateful for any information. Thank you

We live in British Columbia, Canada. My Grandfathers, mothers name was Amanda, so maybe you are related in some way. I would love to hear more about your family. Please email back.

Hi Betty;

I am researching the Hackwood family of Wednesbury for someone else and I noticed your posted message. It looks like you have done extensive research on the Hackwoods. I am looking for information (parents, siblings, etc.) on a Sylvia Hackwood (I suspect Sylvia may not be her proper name). She was born abt. 1817 in Wednesbury. She married William Cooper and I have a large file on the Cooper and Hicken families but have found nothing to connect to a Hackwood family in Wednesbury. I can't seem to find a marriage for William and Sylvia either. I found one marriage on the Bishops Transcripts for Walsall of a William Cooper and Sylvia? "Attwood" so it could have been transcribed incorrectly. In your research, do you happen to have any information for Sylvia or her family? Thank you for your time.
Joanne

Hi Louise;

I am researching the Hackwood family of Wednesbury, Staffordshire, England for someone else. I am looking for any information (parents, siblings, etc.) for a Sylvia Hackwood born abt. 1817 in Wednesbury, Staffordshire, England. She married William Cooper (born abt. 1814 in Walsall). I have all of their childrens names, mostly born in Walsall (a fairly extensive file on the Cooper and Hicken families). Have you been able to research that far back and do you think there may be a connection? Thank you for your time.
