West Liberty, Iowa -- Mary Alice Hadley, 90, formerly of West Liberty, West Branch and Nichols died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at the home of her son in Jacksonville, Fla., after an extended illness.

Services at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. The Rev. Norman Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty.

Memorials may be made to Hospice.

Mrs. Hadley was born Feb. 27, 1912, in West Liberty, the daughter of Stanford A. and Grace Pearl Ferguson Gregory. She married T.M. Hadley Sept. 16, 1936, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He preceded her in death in 1997.

She attended Union Valley country school and West Liberty High School.

She was employed with the University of Iowa at Burge Hall for 10 years, she and her husband also farmed in the Nichols, Tipton and West Branch areas for many years.

She was a member of the Hebron Grange, St. Joseph's Guild and the Alpha Delta fraternity. She enjoyed children, especially her two granddaughters, animals, flowers and her vegetable and flower gardens. She always gave a home to small, stray animals.

After her husband died she moved to Jacksonville to live with her son Gaylord and his family.

Survivors include a son, Gaylord Hadley and wife Betty of Jacksonville; two granddaughters, Teresa and Robin Hadley of Jacksonville; two brothers, Albert Gregory and wife Mildred of Wilton and Robert Gregory and wife Yvonne of Tipton; two sisters, Margarite Collison of Cedar Falls and Shirley Schultz and husband George of Fairfield; a sister-in-law, Amelia Mills of Muscatine; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Stanley; a sister, Edith Walter; a half-brother, Lester Gregory; and a half-sister, Edna Gregory.
