Hello,
I am researching Louisa Haertel Kaiser who was born in 1866 to Charles and Caroline Doering Haertel of New York.
Haertel, Charles and Caroline Doering

I am researching a descendent of Charles and Caroline. Their children were:Caroline Carrie m. Frankovits; William, Annie married Kolb; Louisa (the subject of this request, Minnie; CHarles Jr. married Adeline; Frank; Bertha; and Harry who married Grace Griffin.
Louisa had a son out of wedlock born Feb 1891, and eventually married a gentleman named Keiser. The son took the name? of william J. rogers, now whether this was his birth father's name, we don't know. Can't nail down where Louisa is living in 1890, but know the son was born at 211 W. 13th Street in Manhattan, NY. Does this name/circumstances fit into anyone's family. Thanks in advance.

Hartel, said our name was spelled Haertel in Germany and I see it might be the other way around! My father and his family were from Mass. and originally the family is from Germany.

Bessie PARKHURST, male partner HARTELL (sp?), daughter Frieda HARTELL (sp?) - Native American INDIAN

Hi, I am searching for a Native American Indian lady Bessie PARKHURST born around 1907 (1905-1909) who lived in the Portland or Salem (Multnomah or Clackamas County areas) of Oregon (OR) between the years 1930 and 1950. She also went by Bess and I don't know if her full first name was Elizabeth or not.

She may or may not have been born in OR. Her Parkhurst family lived there also but I don't have any of their names. Prior to coming to Oregon they were from Oklahoma.

She had 3 partners that I know of. The first two were not Indian and the 3rd one was. She was first married to a Joseph OLSON and had 2 children. Her next partner (not sure if they were married) was with the last name HARTEL (not sure of spelling, could be Hartell, Haertel, Hartl, Hartill, Hartle, or other) and she had 6 children with him.

I only know one of the 6 children's name and her first name was FRIEDA (don't know spelling, could be Freda or Freida) and she was born around 1940 (anywhere between 1935 and 1945) in Oregon.

Around 1950 Bess PARKHURST announced she was going to live on a reservation with her 3rd partner (don't know his name just that he was also INDIAN - very Indian-looking according to the interview - and a wrestler) and her child/ren. She was never heard from again.

If anyone out there could help me, I would be so grateful. Don't know much about our Indian (possibly CHEROKEE, but not sure) heritage, but we are proud of it. I'm sure she has passed on, as she would be in her late 90's today. But she must have some children and grandchildren alive today who could let us know what happened to our lost ancestor.

Thanks for reading this! Any clues on how to proceed would be appreciated...

we have found Charles Haertel Civil war Lieutenat NY45th regiment. He was from Prussia born about 1831. His enlistment papers say he was 30 in 1861.His wife was Caroline Doering also from Prussia. My husband's grandfather was Harry Haertel born 1877 Hoboken NJ and was married to Grace Mary Griffing in 1903, He died in 1946 and she in 1952. They are both burried in Bronx Ny.Harry's death certificate list Charles as his father. However he would have been 47 at the time of Harry's birth which is unlikely. It seems their may be someone in between. I have requested Harry's birth certificate from N>J> wait to hear from you. Mary

My Father was Richard Haertel and after a little research of the name, I found out that Haertel is the American version of Hartel Which is a very popular name in Germany. There is a car company that makes convertable tops named Hartel. I look in phone books all the time and some times I find other Haertel's 3 in Tucson Az alone. But I never met anyone else with my name. People have mispronounced it and Lord knows mispelled it. I do not think I am related my father was an only child, no no real cousins that I know of. Just thought you might like to know a little info on the name ...bye haertel27 @aol.com

the only family i have by the last name of haertel lived (as far as i know) in PA.

i know that my great grandparents came from Germany. They would probably have come through the NY port from the ship. Their names were John and Marie Haertel. They had a daughter, Regina, born in 1911 in Germany that came to the US with them. After the 3 of them came to the US, there were two more children born to John and Marie in the US...John and Dorothy. Regina was probably about 12-15 years older than the two of them.

any similarities?
