This is to announce the formation of the Hagy - Hegi DNA Project. The purpose of the project is to provide a forum in which interested Hagys can verify their paternal (father's father) ancestry in a quick and easy way, and to compare their results to that of other Hagys to see if they are related. So far 12 Hagy/Hagey/Haga/Hegi/Hagi men have been tested, and the results of 11 are available to be seen at: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hagy/results.html
The lineages of the men who have tested so far:
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hagy/pats.html

If you are interested, and/or have questions about the Project, please contact me.

Wayne Modlin
Hagy - Hegi DNA Project Volunteer Coordinator

Obit: Trygve Odin Haga 1916-2007

Trygve Odin Haga, a quiet but witty family man known for his love of sports, books, and a glass of Chardonnay, died Saturday, July 7, 2007. He was ninety years old. Trygve was born September 20, 1916, in Reynolds, North Dakota, to Ole and Ida Haga. He graduated from Reynolds high School in 1934; married Harriet Frances Frank on December 14, 1946; and went on to become an assistant regional administrator for the United States Department of Labor's Pacific Northwest region. He liked his coffee strong, his roses fragrant and his crosswords finished, and in his last week, lamented in a letter that the Mariners were "not quite World Series caliber yet". He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, and his wife, Harriet. He is survived by daughters, Barbara Carlson, of Olympia; Mary Walker, of Mount Vernon; Karen Ramey, of Kelso; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

I need some help!!!!! I am looking for a needle in a haystack. My great grandmother wants me to research her family tree. She hasn't given me much info becasue she doesn't know much herself. She says that her grandfather was John Haga and that he lived in Fox, Va in Grayson County. His daughter was a Belle Haga. She had a child out of wedlock with a John Kyle Adams. That child was a daughter my great grandmother Zella Mae. She just turned 86 years old in March so, that would mean she was born in 1920, I think. I know that this is probably confusing, but I need HELP!!!!
Any help would be great. If anyone has anything you can email me at scarlett0500@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Jennifer B.

I know (have heard through stories that he told) that long ago an indian lady from the Black Foot tribe in Montana married a white man (Haga) If anyone else has this same history, please respond. I would like to talk more and get the information that you have. I am interested in finding out about the indian tribe that originated my family. There are a lot of Haga's out there, and I think we are all connected in some way. (?) I have 3 Haga brothers, 6 Haga cousins, and a Haga Uncle.

I'm currently doing research on the Anderson side of
my family and have come across an interesting story.
It appears that my family's namesake changed his
name from Haga to Anderson when he married his second
wife (an Anderson). His original name was John
Haga and he came from Norway. He was born 9.18.1824 and
died 12.11.1901. His first wife died in transit from
Norway to the U.S. and they had two kids. There names are
Andres and Mina (who married Casper Hanson).

Does anybody out there have any additional
information?

LTC Brad Anderson
U.S. Embassy Morocco
PSC 74, Box 23
APO AE 09718

She also had one other daughter and one son, who are both deceased. I have dates and names on them. Do you have information on any of the other Haga children? I would appreciate any information you could share with me. As I said I am just starting to gather family histories. Thank you, Nancy Hayes

Wow ! That's quite a few people with the same surname! "Haga" means "chin" or "jaw" in Norweigin, I've been told. There are quite a few Haga's in Minnesota. All the one's that I know are Norwegian, but that doesn't mean there isn't a connection. Keep in touch.

Haga in Minnesota

My maiden name is Hage, but in researching, I've found some information on Haga lines from Norway. Go to www.slecksforumkarmoy.com. Look for the Haga surname there. Also, I came across a gravesite in Carlisle, MN, for a Anders L. Haga, d. 31 JUN 1900. On the same stone are:
Josephine Mathilde Haga, d. 06 Apr 1891; Lewis Haga, d. 21 Apr 1891; and Mina Haga, d. 23 Apr 1891. Apparently there was an outbreak of some sort and the headstone was situated far out in a corner of the cemetary. I am researching further to see if I can find any more information on this family. Is anyone interested?

Catharine Haga, mid-1800s, Athens Co., OH

Hi!
I'm looking for the lineage of Catharine HAGA who married Samuel FRY. Samuel FRY was born about 1847, so I presume Catharine's birth year would have been around that time. They lived in Athens Co., Ohio and had two daughters - Alsie Otie (Haga)Parsons, and Lydie Haga. Catharine Haga's father (don't know his name) provided the land for the Haga Cemetery in Athens County, OH, and the Haga Church in Athens Co. was given by Catharine Haga Fry. The Haga Church was a United Brethren church.

Would love to learn anything more about Catharine Haga.

Thanks much!

Mary

He also had land in Rockingham Co VA. He probably lived in Philadelphia during the Revolution. He is described as a wealthy merchant in Philadelphia. Any info would help.

Janice
