Henry Hodges and Susie Haggard in St. Francois Co., MO

Henry Hodges was my grandfather's brother. He was born 1884 and died 1913. He married Susie Haggard, daughter of William Haggard and Elisa ?, in Washington Co., Mo in 1909.
I saw an old post that said that Henry and Susie had two sons, Henry, born 1910, and David (Lloyd?) born 1911. After Henry's death, Susie married William Sullivan in 1917 in St. Francois Co., MO. I would like to know what happened to the two boys. I have a photo of Henry,sr. (poor condition). I also have a photo of two unidentified boys who could be Henry's sons. I will try to attach them to this post. The photo of the Hodges brothers are, from l-R: Henry, John, and Albeert.

Patrick

Re: Samuel Haggard 1835

I don't know if there is a relation or not. My grandfather was Samuel Wesley Haggard. There is a marriage of Samuel Allen Haggard to Rebbeca Dowdy in SE Missouri and the first child was my grandfather. I have followed a link that shows a generation that is missing, maybe two generations. The link is this. The son of Granville Haggard (1728-1799) was Samuel Haggard (1753-1811) who married Nancy Hix. It appears that this Samuel left his North Carolina roots and married Nancy in Jackson COunty Georgia wherein they had a son named Johnathan (1781-1832). Nancy died in the early 1800's in Jackson County, Georgia and Samuel died in 1811, also in Jackson COunty, Georgia. Johnathan married a woman named Mary in Jackson County, Georgia in 1799. But it appears they moved to Harden County, Tennessee after they married because Johnathan died in Hardin County in 1832. The missing link could very well be Johnathan's son, who could very well have been named Samuel Allen or Samuel Alford Haggard, who may have traveled down to SE Missouri, I believe around Dexter, Missouri and married my great grandmother, Rebbecca Dowdy. If some of the Jackson County, Georgia, Haggard's or the Hardin County, Tennessee Haggard's could fill in the lineage blanks, I sure would appreciate the information.

Kimberly,

Yes, I know your mother very well. She is my first cousin. My father was Charles Wesley Haggard and I was named for my grand father Samuel Wesley Haggard. My father named me, legally, Samuel Wesley Haggard III, which tells me that my grandfather was a junior or my great grandfather was Samuel Wesley Haggard also. I never knew when I was young and by the time I wanted to know, it was too late to ask. My father was Charles Wesley and he married Lela Doris Ripley from Palo Pinto, Texas. I do know and his name is on the original petition, that our grandfather was an original founding member of the Texas Cattlemen's Association and there were some other famour people who signed that document. Your mother was Nancy Ann Haggard and your Uncle was Edwin Allen Haggard and Your grand mother's name was Vera. Your Grandfather was Allen but my dad and Allen's other brother, Wiliam (my Uncle Willy) called your grand father "Napper". If you see this and you want some more info, just drop me an email. The big mystery to myself and my six brother's and sister's is, Who and what name is my grand father's (Samuel Wesley Haggard) father. My grand father was quite an entrepreneur. I very much hope I inherited a little of his smarts, business savy and long life genes.

My dad Vern Webb Haggard was born in 1965 in Oakland California. I'm pretty sure, he grew up there so I guess thats an assuption. As for my grandfather I honestly have no clue anywhere from 1940-1960. My educated guess would have to be in the late 50's to 60's. I don't know where he was born. My dad grew up in California, but later moved with his family to Lawrence, Kansas. My dad way later moved to Philadelphia and remains there. I live in South Florida, and my grandfather now live in one of the Carolina's. I'm so sorry that I don't have more information. You don't know how much this means to me that you responded. Thank you so much Joy.
Have a nice day.
-Heather

I'm trying to prove (or disprove) the parentage of Sarah HAGGARD, b. September 1820/21, possibly in Clark County, Kentucky. She married Ezekiel ELKIN in Clark County on 27 June 1842.

I've seen Sarah listed as a child of Pleasant HAGGARD & Elizabeth WATTS, but no one has any source info for her to be included in the family.

According to "History of Kentucky, five volumes, edited by Judge Charles Kerr, American Historical Society, New York & Chicago, 1922, Vol. V, p. 330, Clark County" Pleasant was a son of John HAGGARD & Mary SHEPHERD, and John was the son of Nathaniel HAGGARD & Elizabeth GENTRY. (While I'm at it, the above referenced work also notes that this Nathaniel died in 1820 at the age of 97, but the will I've read posted on this board seems to indicate he died about 15 years earlier. Is this the same man?)

Does anyone have further info on Sarah HAGGARD, Ezekiel ELKIN or their related families?

Thanks!
Gr Grandmother's death certificate has incorrect information

Even though the death certificate says the mother of Emily Jane Hemphill was Mary Jane Haggard new information suggests that this is incorrect and the name should read Mary Ann Ellen Ashmore born ca 1830 MS

Mary Ann Ellen Ashmore married James K. Hemphill 10 Jan 1853 in Winston Co MS and had 6 daughters and one son.

1. Rebecca Ellen Hemphill married Henry Bias Smith in Angelina Co TX

2. Emily Jane Hemphill married William Cecil Turner 1881 in Angelina Co TX

3. Amanda Hemphill married Josiah Freeman 1875 in Angelina Co TX

4. Margaret Hemphill married J. W. Teer 1882 in Angelina Co TX ~~ please note that J. W. Teer's first wife was also named Margaret ~~~ Margaret W. Anderson Stephens She died between 1880-1882.

5. Wesley Hemphill is on the 1880 Angelina Co TX census living with his father and sisters -- no information after 1880

6. Synthia (Cinthia) Naomi Hemphill married Macron Hill 1886 in TX

7.
James Haggard from Craighead County, Ark HELP PLEASE

Hey everyone,
For the last several years I've been trying to trace my father's family back to find out a bit about my past. My great-grandfather was named James Haggard and he was born Dec. 19th, 1906 in or around Arkansas and he died in Michigan in Aug. of 1987. He married Edna Elizabeth Scaggs and so far I was able to trace her lineage back a ways but no luck on the Haggard's side of things. They had four children together, Joe, James Lee, Shirley, and Grace.

If you have any information please let me know! I'd love to hear back from you. :D

I have solved a long-time puzzling connection from our Madison/Franklin/Jackson Co., GA (and Roane Co., TN) Haggard ancestors.

Nathaniel Hix (c1750-1821 Franklin Co. GA).
[1] His son John Hix (c1775-1863) married Nancy Haggard (c1777-c1855), [dau. of Samuel Haggard and Nancy Hix], and they were parents to:
1) Nathaniel Hix (1800-1874) m. Joanna Perry
2) David Hix (1808-1857) m. Mary "Polly" Perry
3) Mary "Polly" Hix (1816-1892) m. William Williams
4) Elizabeth "Betsey" Hix (c1798-1880) m. Jason Matlock, Jr.

[2] His daughter Anna Hix (c1775-1821) m. John Haggard [son of Samuel Haggard and Nancy Hix]
Parents of:
1) Samuel Haggard (c1794-1866)

If this is your line, email me so I can send you the deeds and other records to support this connection.
Michael Black
Thanks for clearing this up. I didn't realize Patsy had married her cousin. We also have no death date info for Patsy. My husband's line comes from both Patsy and her brother James. It really gets confusing when cousins marry.

Patsy married John J Smith and had Anna Smith
James married Elizabeth (Freeman) Thurmond and had Alfred S Haggard

Alfred Haggard and Anna Smith married and had James S Haggard

James S Haggard married Sarah Emily Smith and had Franklin Pierce Haggard - that is my husbands great grandfather.

I've done pretty well tracing everyone except for Sarah Emily Smith. If anyone has any info on her, please get in touch - colleene@easycall.net

Haggard - Elkin in Clark County, Kentucky

Sarah A. HAGGARD was married to Ezekiel ELKIN, a son of Enoch ELKIN & Millie HAGGARD (d/o Bartlett HAGGARD & Martha DAWSON.) Sarah & Ezekiel married 27 June 1842 in Clark County, Kentucky.

I don't guess it would be impossible that Sarah HAGGARD wasn't part of Anthony HAGGARD's descendants in Clark County, but I do think it improbable that she wasn't. Can anyone help me place her into one of the many HAGGARD families of Clark County? She was born about 1822, according to census enumerations.

Something else to consider: my Sarah HAGGARD did not marry until she was about 22 years old, so I am also wondering if she might have been a HAGGARD widow when she married Ezekiel ELKIN.

-------------------------------------------------------
Ezekiel ELKIN
b. about 1818, Kentucky
m. 27 June 1842, Clark County, Kentucky
d. before 1900, Tennessee
-------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
Sarah A.
Sarah E. Haggard married James P. Shaw (NE)

I am looking for the family of James P. Shaw. He married twice. 1st marriage: James P. Shaw married Sarah Mussleman Dec. 20, 1873 in Jefferson County, Nebraska. She was listed as Sarah Mussleman and her father was listed as Lewis Musselman (mother Delilah Venious). She was born abt. 1854 in Indiana and he was born in 1827 in New Jersey the son of Joshua and Hannah Pough Shaw. I think Sarah Mussleman Shaw may have died young, just a few years after her marriage. I don't know if they had children.

2nd marriage: Joshua P. Shaw married Sarah E. Haggard (daughter of James Haggard) Feb. 4, 1880 in Jefferson County, Nebraska. Sarah Haggard was born in 1841 in Illinois. There were no children from this marriage.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

HI, I grew up being told the same. The short version of my family history is Josiah J. SMITH, son of John and Pasty(Haggard) SMITH had Josiah J. SMITH and was married to Mary E. ROBERTS. Josiah was married two other times as well. They had Andrew Ebanezer L. SMITH who married a Sarah Jane Abel. They had my grandma Leona B. SMITH who married a James D. WHITE (also I grew up being told till this day there were Native American roots). James and Leona had several children James Lyle, Beverly Jean, Audrey Mozelle, Geraldine(still living and I am in touch with her) and my dad Jerry D. White. I have gone around in circles to connect the dots to the NA roots. I have found many names on many rolls, but unable to connect them to me as of yet. I would love to hear from anyone that can help or would just like to chat. My email is "zillahsuzy@yahoo.com" please put genealogy from ancestry in subj. line so I know your from ancestry. I hope we can help each other. I am new to genealogy, but I still talk to Geraldine and she has given me a lot of info, and still tells me that we have native american roots and she is 82 yrs old. I hope to hear from all of you soon. Many blessings to all. Sincerely, SNOWYWOLF

If so, I'm trying to find info on my grandmother Bertha Francis Orsborn McKelvey, DOB 1894, and supposedly either a sister or maybe stepsister of Elizabeth Jane Richardson Haggard.

Thank you for any info

Was there a Bertha Francis in your family anywhere, even maybe a stepdaughter? This was my grandmother, and I knew her as Bertha Francis Orsborn McKelvey, but her past is a mystery. I have her father as Jesse W. Orsborn and mother as Sophia Laurence, but I think she was a stepdaughter somewhere.

Any help would be appreciated. I've got my grandfather, McKelvey and grandfather Meaders all the way back to the 1600s but this lady is really a mystery.

I think more likely as I keep searching, Bertha was a stepsister. Our family has always thought possibly that her 'father' Jesse W Orsborn was married more than once.

Thanks anyway.

Johnnie McKelvey Holland

My last name is McKelvey. Somehow, my grandmother Bertha Frances Orsborn McKelvey was supposedly connected to the Haggard family. Elizabeth Jane Betty Richardson Haggard. Her father was Tututlis Richardson and her mother was Tresia (allen) Paralee. I have no idea how Bertha is connected but my sister Elaine (now deceased) seems to have found a connection. Unfortunately no one in the family knew it until it was found at Ancestry.com. Now, of course, I'm going nuts trying to figure it out. I don't know how to post this other than replying to an email. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
MistaMug@twcny.rr.com
