Hannah Nyquist Haglund, b.Mar 1886. wife of Victor Haglund, lived Meeker Co., MN

I have an original 8”x10” photograph of “Peter Nyquist and family”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. On the back of the photo all the people are identified, including “Hannah (the first Mrs. Victor Haglund)”. Census records show Victor and Hannah lived in Meeker Co., MN.

Photo was taken in Cokato (Wright Co.) MN, and was taken in approximately 1920, give or take a few years. Peter looks to be about age 65 and his wife about 60, and there are 7 adults and four children shown.

On the back of the photo are all the names of those in the photo, stating “This Mrs. Nyquist was Peter’s third wife (no name given); she was the older sister of Mrs. Larson, and aunt of Judge Earl, Stanley, Melvin and Audrey. The first Mrs. Nyquist, the mother of August and Marie, was the half sister of Mrs. Lewis Nyholm, and both were daughters of Mrs. Maria Satterquist, whose farm was adjacent to and just north of the Crow River Free Church”.

The names on the photo are: “Ella (Mrs. Ernest Johnson); P. August; Hannah (the first Mrs. Victor Haglund); David, Julia (Mrs. Carl Jacobson); Marie; John Samuel (attorney in Milaca); Linnea (Mrs. Victor Lundeen); Rudolph; Russell; Signe; and Mrs. And Mrs. Peter Nyquist”.

In the 1900 census for Collinwood (Meeker Co.) MN, I found Peter Nyquist (Dec 1847); Maria, wife (Jul 1867 – who had 6 children and 6 living); son August (Oct 1875 – age 24); Hanna U. (Mar 1886); Sam J. (Dec 1888); Julia O. (Aug 1890); David N. (May 1892); Ella A. (Jan 1895); and Signe C. (May 1898). In the 1910 census in same location, Peter and Maria had been married 24 years (abt 1886), and they had added to their family beyond the last six children above – three more: Linnea (9 in 1910); Rudolph (7 in 1910) and Russell (3 in 1910).

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to the family of Peter Nyquist of Meeker Co., MN.

Laura Augusta Catharina Haglund was born out of wedlock
in 1866 in Oskarshamn to the unmarried servant Johanna Gustava Carlsson. In later records she was noted as Gustava Sofia Haglund. In the 1880's Gustava married the plater Anders Jacob Bengtsson, born in 1842, who died in the 1890's. No children were born in that marriage. In the census of 1900 both the widowed Johanna and her unmarried daughter Laura were together and it was noted they were very poor and lacking work. Some time after that, Laura married my husband's father, Jacob Herman Jacobsson Kiviniemi Dahlqvist and the two, along with Laura's widowed mother, immigrated and ended up in Coos Bay, OR where my husband, their only child, was born in 1906. Johanna later disappeared on a walk, and was never seen again, and no remains ever found. They are all deceased now. I do not know if, or how, our Haglund's could be connected, but you never know! Herman's surname was changed to Stone according to a document signed by some royalty of Russia that my step-daughter has in her possession as well as a marriage certificate in 1904 in the names of Herman Dalquist and Laura Haglund issued in Coos Bay, OR. Their headstones in the cemetery are Herman Stone and Katerina Stone. My husband was always "Stone" as am I and all his children. I am thinking my search is hitting a dead end at this point.

I wish I could help you. My Laura is Laura Josephine Haglund, born Feb 25, 1881 in Joliet, IL. I can't find any other Laura's before her. I know the family name was Anderson before they immigrated and changed it to Haglund. Laura's grandfather, Anders Olofson, had quite a few children, some of whom remained in Sweden under the last name of Gustafson and some who immigrated to the Illinois under the name Haglund.

Yours, Mary Haglund

I am searching for information on Laura Katerina Haglund, born April 06, 1866 in Oskarshamn, Sweden. She married Jacob Herman Jacobsson Kiviniemi Dahlqvist born October 24, 1874. They immigrated to US around the turn of the century, changing their surname to Stone, with the intention of changing it back once they made it out of the old country, but never did. They settled on the Oregon coast. They had one child in 1906, my late husband. Florence

I think this person may be your Andrew Anderson. Andrew is not a Swedish name but it usually comes from Anders or Andreas.

Information comes from the Emibas CD. Emibas was made from registrations in the Swedish parish to go to a foreign country. It doesn't translate occupations and titles. It is about 75% complete.

Post 583108

Andersson, Andreas
Arbetare (unmarried man)

b. 10/8/1846 in Torpa, Älvsborgs län (Västergötland)

Emigrated 1880
from Riddarebo, Torpa, Älvsborgs län (Västergötland)
to Amerika

Source: Household Examination Roll, p. 193

Emibas migration file ID: Torpa P 1880 008

If you mention his birthplace in the future, include the name of his parish, since records were kept in the parish. The Rosenberg CD, made from a book written about Swedish place names in the 1880s, lists a by (village) called Riddarebol (probably the same location) in Torpa parish. Spellings have changed since the 1880s.

"Riddarebol i Elfsborgs län, Vedens hd. By i Torpa sn, vid den lilla Bosjön."

Andreas seems to be this person on the Emihamn database of CD Emigranten. Emihamn was made from registrations with the Swedish port police before leaving Sweden.

First name: ANDREAS
Last name: ANDERSSON
Age: 33 Gender: M
Parish: TORPA County: P (Älvsborg)
Port: GÖTEBORG
Date: 1880 04 23 (registration date)
Destination: CHICAGO
Fellows: NEJ (Nej = no. He didn't travel with anyone else on his ticket.)
Source: 14:543:8250

He certainly wasn't the only person from Torpa traveling to Chicago at that time.

First name: EFRAIM
Last name: ERIKSSON
Age: 27 Gender: M
Parish: TORPA County: P
Port: GÖTEBORG
Date: 1880 04 23
Destination: CHICAGO
Fellows: NEJ
Source: 14:543:8251

First name: ALFRED
Last name: HANSSON
Age: 25 Gender: M
Parish: TORPA County: P
Port: GÖTEBORG
Date: 1880 04 23
Destination: CHICAGO IL
Fellows: NEJ
Source: 14:543:8252

First name: CLAES
Last name: ANDERSSON
Age: 19 Gender: M
Parish: TORPA County: P
Port: GÖTEBORG
Date: 1880 04 23
Destination: CHICAGO
Fellows: NEJ
Source: 14:543:8253

First name: CARL
Last name: JOHANSSON
Age: 23 Gender: M
Parish: TORPA County: P
Port: GÖTEBORG
Date: 1880 04 23
Destination: CHICAGO
Fellows: NEJ
Source: 14:543:8254

I looked at the fee-based Genline site to find the birth of this man to see if his father was Anders Olofsson. Genline has scans of the same Swedish parish records you can see on microfilm ordered from any Family History Center. These are copies of the actual records and not just transcribed records.

http://www.genline.com

If you join Genline, this is the page to find the record of the birth of Andreas Andersson.

1048.21.55100

Andreas was born in Torpa parish, Älvsborg län (county) on 8 October 1846 and baptised on 11 October. His parents were living in Riddarebo in that parish at the time of his birth.

His parents were: Hem. (farm owner) Anders Olofsson in Riddarebo and Anna Stina Andersdotter. A 41 is listed, which I think is probably the mother's age.

Baptism witnesses were: Johannes Andersson in Ryssnäs? (another village in Torpa parish), wife ???? Olofsdotter in Riddarebo, Dräng (farmhand) Anders Peter Svensson in Funningen?? (another village in Torpa parish), Pigan (the maid) Britta Andersdotter in Ryssnäs?

You need to be posting on the Sweden boards and lists if you want to do more research on these people in Sweden.

Judy

I know it has been several years since you posted this query. My husband, Daniel Haglund is the son of Richard Everett Francis Haglund who was the son of Franz Haglund. I understand that Franz had two brothers, Andrew and Ruben. Franz married Emma Mae Swanson; they had one child who lived, Richard, and one who died, Kenneth. Emma died when 30 years old and Richard and Franz lived with Franz's family most of the year in Joliet, IL. I've just started investigating and haven't been able to trace anything further back than this. You may already know this--I'm hoping you know more than this!
Yours, Mary Haglund

I have just recieved a large packet of information from my brother-in-law about Andrew Anderson Haglund. Andrew was the son of Anders Olofson of Riddarebo, SW and Anna Stina Andersdotter. Andrew was born in 1846 in Vastergotland, IMM to the US in 1880, and married Anna Sophie Peterson in 1882. Their children were Franz (1884-1956), my husband's grandfather; David who died at birth; David Andrew who died at birth; Laura Josephine (1881-1986),; Rueben Nathaniel (1894-1971); and Anna Elizabeth (Betty- 1898-1926). All the children were born in Joliet, IL.

Andrew Anderson Haglund had many siblings: Olof, Algot, and John Flodin who all IMM to the US, and August, Mia, Bustav, Louise, and Breta who stayed in Sweden. I hope this info is helpful and that maybe you have some to add.

Sincerely,
Mary Haglund

I am looking for ancestors of Franz, Andrew, and Ruben Haglund, all born around 1880, probably in Sweden. Their mother's first name was Anna. Franz is my husband's grandfather and was born in 1884. He married Emma Mae Swanson in Joliet or Princeton, IL and had a son, Richard Everett Francis Haglund, born 1916, d 2005. Richard married Tekla Dahlgren, my husband Dan is their son. I am stuck on trying to find Franz's parents, grandparents, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mary Haglund

I'm looking for relatives on my mother and my grandfathers side. My grandfather got a lot of sisters an brothers an some of them went to U S A in the last year of 1800 or the begining of 1900. Before they left to U S A they were living in Järsnäs or Barkeryd, i Jönkoping, Sweden. The namne of my grandfathers brothers and sisters was Hulda, Hanna, John, Johan, Karl and Erik. They had Jonsson for there second name. Some of them or maybe one of them got the name Haglund, (by marrige?). For about 12 year ago Claude Haglund an his wife Ethel was here to visit my mother. Claude and my mother Maj-Lis was cousins, (my mother is dead now). After that visit the connection are broken. I've got a picture of Claude ande Ethels son (my second cousin) and his family. I dont now his name but I think they are living in Texas or Minnesota. If anyone knows about Calude and Ethel Haglund and his son, please send me a e-mail.
Ulla Jarl
Jönköping
e-mail:grimmeryd@rixtele.com
Sweden

Do you (or anyone) happen to know if this Louis Haglund fathered children with a Johanna Pehrson? I say it that way, because all the children I've found thus far (one of whom, Esther Vivian, is my great-grandmother) were born with the mother's last name, so I don't believe there was a marriage. Anyhoo, the areas in MN you mention are a perfect fit for my ancestors, so I have a strong feeling that he is the Louis Haglund in my tree...

Thanks!!

-Keith

She had 5 siblings: Carl Helge (born 1888), Birger Paul (born 1884), Gustaf Ivar (born 1891), Kerstin Teolinda (born 1893) and Valdemar Folke (born 1897).

I am looking for information going futher back than her parents. I will probably need to write for parish records in Sweden for that. I would also like to flesh in the information on Gustaf, Kerstin and Valdemar. As far as I can figure out, they stayed in Sweden, while Helga, Helge and Birger emigrated separately to the US.

Any information would be appreciated.

Do you have exact dates of birth, i.e, month, day and year, for these relatives? I have information for a few generations back for most people born before 1860 in Torpa and Sandhult parishes.

Hi Karen,

I entered Haglund and your quiery was the only that came up. I have a Louise Bender who married a Haglund. I only know this from her gravestone. She's buried in Milwaukee at Forest Home. She died 7 July 1945 (born 5 Aug 1893). Could she have been married to any of your Haglunds?

Hi,
I am not positive about this but from Rev. Ilmonens book
the early Finnish immigrants, the Haglund name in Finland may have actually been Harmala/Harmaala. I did find Kaarlo and Kusta mentioned. Matt/Matthew said he immigrated in 1882.
Hiski parish records have no Haglund in Himanka but do have Harmala.
Here is the link, also join the mailing list and post in Finland for help
http://www.genealogia.fi/indexe.htm
Alicia
