After more research at the NEGHS, I have found that my Hahessy/Hahesey family is from the same area in Carrick-On-Suir, Co. Waterford.

My Martin (b. 1850) emigrated to Salem, MA and married Catherine/Katie Riley.

I believe his father to be Martin Hahessy/Hahesey and his mother to be Mary Larkin.

Nancy, thanks for your message. It's possible our ancestors are linked. Hahesy is an uncommon name, even in Ireland. Do you know what County or townland your Irish ancestor came from? My gr-grandparents and their 6 sons came from Co. Waterford. Wm & Bridget (Houlahan) were married in 1848 at Portlaw and Ballyduff, her parish. Their sons in age order were: Michael, John, Thomas, Patrick, Edmond and my grandfather James. I found the baptismal records of the 5 older sons, but can't find my grandfather James' baptismal record. I correspond with other Hahesys in the US and in Ireland, but cannot find out where my gr-grandfather Wm. was from, nor can I find a direct link to any of them. I have corresponded with and visited Thos. Francis Hahesy near Boston, but we can't find a link for 3 generations back anyway. I'm guessing you're connected to them, with the name Thomas Frances Hahesy in your family. I'm also in touch with some Hahessys (2 s) in Ireland.
Let me know where in Ireland your ancestor came from, and we can exchange more info. The Gaelic for Hahesy is O'hAithesea :=> thanks.

They had a daughter Mary Frances, and 3 sons John Anthony, Thomas Frances, and James.
Martin and Katharyn died before 1900. Their children were born between 1875 and 1885.
Do you think there could be a connection?

Hello. I don't know anything about William Hahesy's siblings or parents. All I know if he and Bridget Houlahan Hahesy are my great grandparents, married at Portlaw and Ballyduff 1848. Family anecdote says they came to Boston 1863, but I looked through 3 films of passenger lists from mid-1862 to mid-1864 and could not find them or anything resembling them. One of the six sons they brought with them was my grandfather, James Hahesy but we've always believed he was born in Ireland in May of 1857. Do you know a James P. Hahesy in Chelsea? what are your Hahesy ancestors' names and details please. thanks. :-) Beverly Hahesy Hannon

Hi again,
My gr-grandparents: William Hahesy Bridget Houlahan. Married 1848 Portlaw Ballyduff parish, Co. W'fd. Waterford Heritage Services found their sons Michael, John, Patrick, Thomas, Edward baptismal records there, but not for James (the youngest son), my grandfather. We have his birth/baptism May 27, 1857, Co. W'fd, but can't find the record yet. they all came to US, supposedly Boston in 1862or 1863. Can't find them in passenger lists.

that's how James is my grandfather. He married Johanna Penney in Iowa, they had 11 or 12 kids, one of them John James Hahesy, my father(1901, deceased) he married my mother Kathryn Robinson (b. 1901, deceased) I have 2 younger brothers William Dean and John Michael. I am 68, they are 63 and 60.

when I can, I'll send you names of Hahesys I know of in Australia.

Where does Thomas Francis Hahesy fit in your family? I've e-mailed with him, I believe in Chelsea, MA. No word from him for a few months.

Hi Bev, I am the daughter of Josephine M. Hahesy Farnkoff. My mother's father's name was J.P. Hahesy born in the year 1883, I think according to his age at the time of his marriage at age 24 years old to Josephine M. McLaughlin in 1901. My Grandfather lived at 393 First St., Chelsea, Mass at the time of his marriage. His Father's name was James Hahesy, Mother name was Catherine Gowan both born in ireland according to My Grandfather's marriage certificate. Maybe you can't find anything on J.P. baptismal records is because he was born in Chelsea Mass.in 1883. Does any of this sound right to you. By the way Bev what's you on-line address maybe we can correspond more that way. My grandfather J.P. was a contractor, also he was in the tar and oil business easrly on..Let me know if any of this ring a bell to you. Thanks

Hi Bev, I had another thought did your father have any other brothers and when was he born. There was someconfusion as to when my grandfather was born. His marriage certificate would make him born in 1883 and his death certificate would put him in 1877 being born?? The Thomas son of William did he marry when here in the states and who is the Thomas you e-mail with, I beleive my grandfather had a brother Thomas, the old records at the archives are pretty hard to interprete. Some parts give Thomas as My grandfathers father and some give James as my Grandfather father.
Thanks for your info, I recently visited Boston found info about your great grandmother Catherine, actually I visited the suffolk probate court doing family research found her will with your grandfather Thomas as administrator of the will. I also found my grandfather and yours had another brother John E, and 5 sisters. I also found out my mother Josephine was adopted by J.P. hahesy in 1906. Your grat grandfathers name was James T. I would love a copy of the newspaper article of J.P. busioness if you can find it. I was so glad to here from you as I've been searching the records for over 6 years. I now know my mother birth name was Nora Healey, her birth father still unknown as J.P. had her adoption records sealed for reasons unknown. Please let me hear from you again. thanlks, Carol

Thank you for your information on the Hahesy family.I am amazed to find such close relatives as my mother and her sisters tried but never were able to find any relatives except those in Boston. There was aterrible fire in Chelsea in 1908 I believe that burned down the section of the city where the Hahesy's lived. My mother passed down tales of an aunt who refused to leave as the fire spread and was burnt to death. I wonder if this was the reason your grandfather went to Iowa.I also believe the Hahesy's originally were in St Roses parish in Chelsea and later in the Immaculate Conception parish on the Everrett Chelsea line .Perhaps, there would be baptismal or other records at these churches. If you send me amailing address at my office, Kelley Drye & Warren, 101 Park Ave NY NY 10178 c/o William Golden, I will forward the names and addresses of the Hahesy's of my generation. I don"t want to put this on the bulletin Board. Thanks again.

I do know a little bit about J.P Hahesy of Chelsea MA. He was my grandfathers brother and owned a large asphault business that paved the roads I believe leading from Boston to NewHampshire/ Maine ect. I Believe the business was one of the largest of its kind in or around 1920. I believe it may have had 20 or more trucks.

My grandfather Thomas F. was also involved in the business and handled the cccounting and business end while JP handled more of the sales and marketing side of things.

My father told me he was a very prosperous man and quite the fancy dresser owning a suit " for every week in the year" More than likely a gross exageration. I believe many years ago the Chelsea Record ran a picture of the front of the building of the Company with the sign JP Hahesy Inc. prominently displayed. I think is I search high and low I may have a copy of the article.

I'm sorry, but that pretty much exhausts my knowlege of J.P. If you know anything about my grandfather Thomas F. I would love to hear it. Unfortunately, I don't think the Hahesy's were very big into preserving family records and history.
