Surnames: Hahlen, Haehlen
Grüezi,
I am a decendent of the Hahlen/Haehlen families from the Simmental Valley, Canton Bern, Switzerland. My line is Jacob Hahlen 1837-1902/Rosina Dubach 1833-1901 from the village of Diemtigen, Bern, Switzerland. Their son Jacob Hahlen 1859-1939 (my greatgrandfather) immigrated to Green County, Wisconsin about 1883. My father Robert Jacob Hahlen and my two sisters visited the village of Lenk, Bern, Switzerland in October 2002 to attend the 400th year Hahlen Family reunion. We also visited Diemtigen - what a beautiful little village. I have started to research my Hahlen family line and would like to connect with other Hahlen, Haehlen researchers. At the recent Hahlen reunion I learned that some of us spell the name Haehlen and others spell it Hahlen with an umlaut over the "a". I also learned that in the late 1800s - early 1900s Hahlens from Swizterland emmigrated to Russia, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, USA, and no doubt other parts of the world. I live in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin a small town in the southern part of the State and have submitted a request to be administrator of the Haehlen, Hahlen surname message boards. Not sure I have the necessary skills but will give it my best try. All responses or suggestions are welcomed. I have been enjoying genealogy research as a hobby for just over a year now and realize I am still a beginner. Wendy (Hahlen) Fjelstad
