His parents are listed on the 1850 Census for Jefferson Co. as William D. D. HALE, b. abt. 1825 in South Carolina, and Permelia (said to be TAYLOR) b. abt. 1823 in Alabama.

William's father may be a William HAILE, b. abt 1790 in South Carolina, m. Nancy (last name unknown).

Permelia's parents may be Peter TAYLOR and Elizabeth DAWSON.
