Actually, in a roundabout way, there is evidence that Harvey Haines is the s/o Urban Haines. In the 1901 census, with Urban and Eliza, is Mattie Haines b. 15DEC1888; their granddaughter. Apparently two birth records exist at the Vital Statistics section of the PANB web site, including:

Child HAINES, MATTIE
Sex	F
Date of Birth 1889 | 12 | 15 (Y-M-D)
Place	DORN RIDGE
County YORK
Father HAINES, HARVEY
Mother BURTT, ANNABELLE

Considering the 1901 census is often (very often) off by one year these show that Mattie is Harvey's daughter and Urban's granddaughter, therefore Harvey is Urban's son.
By the way, the next listing in the 1901 census, 'Rolland' and Addie Griffiths, is Urban's daughter and her husband.

Thomas

Need help IDing Mrs Betsie HAINES (nee Elizabeth Flocker) of Pittsburgh PA

Mrs Betsie HAINES was listed as a survivor in a brother's 1910 obituary. She was noted as living in the Northside, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA. However, I can not locate a census listing nor one in the city directories of that time frame.

She was born Elizabeth FLOCKER about 1837 in New York, the daughter of Cornelius FLOCKER. She is found in Liverpool, Columbiana Co, OH in 1850 and Salem Township, Jefferson County, OH in 1860. Cornelius and family had previously lived in the Pittsburgh area, and several of his sons are known to have returned there.

She was not mentioned in the obituary of her last surviving brother in December 1915. As of yet, I have not been able to find an obituary for her nor a burial location (both Allegheny Cemetery and Union Dale records have been checked.)

She may be the Elizabeth FLUCKER of Allegheny City (later North Side) PA noted as marrying Norval HOLMES in Allegheny County PA in 1862, but we do not know her parentage.

We are trying to determine if Mrs Betsie FLOCKER HAINES in 1910 and Mrs Elizabeth FLUCKER HOLMES in 1860s & 1870s are the same individual - both have the same approx birthyear and birthplace. We know that Elizabeth HOLMES was in Austin, Travis Co, TX in the 1880 census but can not locate her after this. It is possible that she remarried at least once, and it is also quite possible that she returned to the Pittsburgh area, but we can not find either name in the 1900 and 1910 census.

Would like to hear from anyone doing HAINES or FLOCKER research who would be able to ID Betsie HAINES or any of her husbands or any of her children to compare to what we know of Elizabeth HOLMES.

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for the reply to my posting.

Your Isaac and mine aren't the same person. Here's all I know about the Isaac who served with the 208th Pennsylvania:

ISAAC HAINES (Hain) is found in the June 1890 Special Schedule for the Howe and Buffalo Townships, Perry County, Pennsylvania Census. He has the notated disability of “wounded in the left side”. Isaac applied for a pension on July 19, 1890.

Best wishes and happy hunting,

Joe
morse73@ptd.net

Hi Joe!
I saw your post and became curious about the Isaac Haines you're researching.
I have an indirect ancestor, a brother of my great-great grandfather who would be of age to serve during the Civil War. His name was Isaac N. Haines, of Hampshire Co., VA (now WV) and he the eldest son born to John Haines and Ladema Ann Ambler abt. 1836. Do you have any further information about Isaac, or just the name? Let me know....

~Cindy Jacobs (my email: kylia_@hotmail.com)

To anyone searching for some of the Haines families in Hampshire co. Va I have just gotten a old family Bible of Noah [ born Oct. 14, 1849] and Drusilla Oates Haines as a gift from my son. The old home place is being restored and the Bible was found by the workers who were told they could keep what they find.

The first listings start with Joseph Haines, then his son Joseph and then more details on his son Sam and His family. I would be more then happy to look for any info that may be of interest to any Haines family searchers.

Children were: Israel, Samuel, Sarah, Louisa.

His will in 1824 indicated that the farm in Hampshire County was to be sold.

John may have had a daughter, Eliza, that married Abraham Saville in 1827.

He was from the Olean area and had another family that included 2 half brothers to my Father. My Father, Grandfather and Grandmother are all gone, there is no way for me to find the rest of my Father's family. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I was reading the cemetery records you had posted. I found Jonathan Haynes listed with parents of William Haynes and Sarah Ingersoll. In the vital records of Salem, MA there is a baptism record for him dated 11 Apr 1648 listing his parents as being James Haynes and Mary Ingersoll. Sarah Ingersoll (sister of Mary) was married to William Haynes but I found no record of a son born to them named Jonathan.

I am looking for any descendants of Leon and Ethel Handler Haines. Their children were Cyd, Lydia, Victor, and Eddy. I know that Leon and Ethel moved to California from New York, but I have lost all track of them. I am the grandson of Ethel's brother, Abraham Handler who came from Prushnitz, Poland (then Russia). I know that Ethel immigrated in 1905. ZI believe she died in California in 1968. any help would be appreciated.

Barry Karger

Hi,

I'm hoping that this thread is still alive. I have Haines in my family and I'm looking for help while your searching yours. If you come across Frank Asher Haines faher or a death date that I can find out the info from. I found them in Williamsport, PA in 1900 with his mother Jane living with them, but can't seem to find them previous to 1900 to pick up on a husband. States in the census that she was married 33 years. I seem to be stalled on my grandmother's side of the family. Frank married Sarah (Sadie) Staht in 1900. He was born in 1872 and she was born in 1880.

I’m trying to find descendants of Marjorie May Haines, who married Herbert Stannard Waite in St Catherine’s, Ontario, in 1923.

Marjorie Haines was my Great Aunt, the daughter of John Haines & Annie Godden, and I have traced her ancestors here in England back to 1800.

Herbert was the son of Frank Bennett Waite and Sadie Nelson. Herbert’s sister, Marjorie Waite, married Arthur John Flowers in 1916. Arthur was born in London, England c1888. Arthur’s parents were Walter Flowers and Margaret Gillespie.

I have no idea whether the families stayed in Ontario, but I have records showing Marjorie’s father, John Haines, crossing the border to USA at various times in the 1920s.

My reasons for contacting this family are to share and exchange information and complete this branch of my family tree. Any advice on how to trace people in Canada would be appreciated.
So far I haven't found out anything more on Edwin Hunt/ Charles Haines. The 1850 Federal Census NYC lists the following: Richard Forrest age 44
Mary Forrest age 35
James Forrest age 16
William Forrest age 10
Edwin Forrest age 3
Charlotte Hunt age 53
Augusta Hunt age 16
The reason for my interest in this family is that I believe that Charlotte Hunt is the widow of my g-g-grandfathers brother, James, and Augusta is their daughter. James died in 1837. I kind of wonder if the Hunt and Forrest families are connected some how. After the 1850 census I lose track of this family.
