I'm going to have to do little digging, But my Mother and Grandparents were related to Marion Hanning. It may take a little time to bring back the connection, But my Grandmother was Minnie Grigor Adams - born in Truro in the 1890's (I'll have to look that up too. She was related to Stewart Neville of Vancouver B.C. -sorry I will have to go to the Neville clan to get more info there. My memory says that this was the connection to the Hannings.

Here's some info I have. My records show a Janet Haining b 1854 Huntfield, Dumfriesshire d 1912 marrying 1877 George Fitzsimmons b1853 d1922

Janet's parents are Thomas Haining and Margaret Armstrong

Thought it was a coincidence about the Fitzsimmons

Thanks for the feedback, I have actually gathered some more info since then, still don't think out families our joined anywhere but someone else reading this may know someone/something.

I believe that somewhere approximately between 1863 and 1873 a young lady Fitzsimmons and a young man Haining married. From this marriage came four children Tom, Peter, Mary and Agnes. ( born 1893 )

The man Haining died, and the widow remarried to John McLoughlin, and from this marriage came forth three sons, John, William and Robert.

Regretably this is the limit of my Knowledge of the Fitzsimmons- Haining- McLoughlin connection.

Agnes - Meanwhile Agnes at the age of 19 in 1912 gave birth (out of wedlock) to a son Robert (my grandfather) I'm led to believe the father was a William McMahan (unconfirmed) and I know no more of him. Within a year of this birth, Agnes had married Andrew McCallum and had given birth to their first son named after the father. Two years later in 1915 John was born. In 1918 a daughter Betty, in 1919 a son Mungo and in 1921 a daughter Bella.

My grandfather lived his life as McCallum until 1936 when applying for a marriage licence he discovered his name had never been changed legally to McCallum and he was therefore still Haining.

I believe the history lies in the district of Aryshire.

Deaths:

Andrew McCallum snr. died age 64 in 1941 (cause unknown)
Agnes McCallum (Haining) died age 64 in 1957 (cancer)

Robert Haining (my grandfather)died age 82 in July 1995 (age and age related dementia)

Andrew McCallum jnr died age 58 in 1971 (heart attack)

John McCallum died age 81 or 82 in 1996 or 1997 (alzheimer disease)

Betty McCallum (not quite sure of age and dates but I know she was in her 80's and died of age and age related dementia.)

Mungo McCallum died age 46 in 1965 (underground mining accident in (Kalgoorlie W.A)

Bella McCallum died age 23 in 1944 (hole in the heart)

Ancestors on the Haining/Armstrong branch moved to New Zealand.

My group is around Dumfries in a parish called Irongray.

Thomas Clingan/Agnes Haining

Looking for information on Thomas Clingan and his wife Agnes Haining. Both appear as names on gravestone of my Gt/grandfather located Kirkpatrick Durham "In memory of Agnes Haining, spouse to Thomas Clingan in Barrhead who died ? March 1810 aged 87".
Also show as parents of Grace Clingan on certs of Grace's dauhter, Agnes.
Brief details gleaned todate show Thomas to be a mason by trade, in KPD area. Grace appears to have had a daughter Agnes at approx. eighteen with a John Hunter named as reported father on Agnes's certs. Following birth Agnes is shown on census using Hunter surname and living with single mother. Later census shows her still residing with mother but reverting to Clingan surname.
I believe their daughter, Catherine Anne Hanning was born in Ontario in 1853. Robert and Janet are my gr-gr-gr-grandparents.

Do these names fit in with yours at all?

Regards,
Jody

William Haining b. 1819 was the brother of my great-greatgrandfather George Haining b.1822. They were the children of James Haining, b 18 Oct 1797 in Yett Farm, near Lockerbie, Dumfries, Scotland and Elizabeth Edgar born around 1800 in Scotland. The family came to New Brunswick in abt. 1818. I beleive you will find William living with George Haining and wife Rosanna (Kinney) in the 1851 Wakefield Parish, Carleton Co.NB census.

Other information about him indicate he had two wives, 1st Emily Jane Chase (+ 7 children) and 2nd Isabel (+3 children)
I'm seeing comflicting information regarding birth and burial. I was under the impression that he was born in Scotland.

I'm sure we can dig up more for you.
Diane

Hello. My gg grandmother was Jemima HAINING who migrated to New Zealand in 1865, with 4 daughters. She was from Terregles in DFS,Scotland. I understand her parents were William HAINING and Mary PARK/ PARKER from Tothorwald, DFS. I think she had one brother, Alexander Robert HAINING born about 1822. This is probably the Alexander Robert HAINING who married Agnes Alexa BRYDEN in 1844, according to several notices before. I would be interested to hear more about our familiy connections to you Hainings over the ocean in Canada and Nebraska, USA. Any communications welcome.
